Her take on the Knights Templar is also good.
There's an old series by Deborah Harris and Katheryn Kurtz called the Adept series. I've always thought it fits pretty well in the Urban Fantasy genre. It's a great series and I don't know how many people have read it.
Rob Thurman and Jeri Smith-Ready are came to mind quickly. I also really like Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom series, they are just terrific. Laura Anne Gilman is also really enjoyabe and not mentioned enough.
The Death of the Necromancer by Martha Wells is an Urban setting in a Steampunk world. The author continues the story line in future books but this one was the best.

Nice to see I've interested 2 people in this book. I read DANCING ON THE HEAD OF A PIN back in the spring. I liked it, too, but thought AKBTA was better.

ooh, that's good to hear as I just picked up it and Dancing on the Head of a Pin during my recent book buying sprees. They're both well reviewed, so I thought I'd check them out.

I know! I was so excited! Deathwish felt like she had wrapped everything up and she has a new series starting September, so I assumed that was the end. Then I read that she's continuing the series with Roadkill in January! I cannot wait.
I really did not enjoy Nightlife. I tried to like it. But I didn't connect to the characters at all. I even had trouble sympathising with the rotten childhood etc. Which is relaly unusual for me. *shrug* to each his own

Love, LOVE, these books. Did you see she's going to start a new series? And, there will be a fifth book in the Cal Leandros series out next year. I was a bit worried about that because Deathwish felt like the end.
Another series I like by Jeri Smith-Ready is her Ciara Griffin WVMP series. There are 2 so far,
and
. Both are great reads with a little bit different take on vampires.
Anita wrote: "Wen Spencer is a woman. (I know-confusing name!)"I was working in the the H.S. library when Andre Norton was first hitting her popularity. I was already a fan from grade school (yeah I'm old) so I knew she was Mary Norton. Mostly the boys would be surprised it was a woman writing their syfy when I corrected the he/she error! It was hard in the early 60s to have a female name and write fiction men would read. Thanks, the correction on the author of Tinker reminded me of how far women writers have come.
Wen Spencer is a woman. (I know-confusing name!) I've read some of her other stuff, and she doesn't seem to do series as well as stand alone. (The Ukiah Oregon series is the weakest, IMO.) She is ALL over the place on her inspiration - a lot of sci fi, some historical, some fantasy, alternative realities. I've had mixed feelings about her novels, but many of them are really excellent. She is great at intricate world-building.
Anita wrote: "Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer"I really enjoyed these 2 books and the form of Elf Land the author creates. Very similar to the old "Bordertown" tales of collected authors by Terri Windling (Editor)
Biggest complaint is the author is very slow to add new books to his series.

I read the first one of these and wasn't bowled over by it, but the 2nd one was way better.
Hi everyone.Mine would be the Nightlife series by Rob Thurman. Very few people have heard of them and they're brilliant.
