2457455 What is your favourite Vampire book new or old

message 2: by Idmwilliamson (new)

2535038 You can't go far past Bram Stokers effort for old and I really enjoyed Robert Matterson's I am Legend for the new. Saw the film recently, and was very disappointed at how they had changed the main character and the entire plot; so all I'm saying is, don't be put off by the film

message 3: by Jo (new)

2457455 I saw the film it was pretty good but if the books better then i will have to read it. I havent read Bram Stoker but i saw the film it was ok

message 4: by Idmwilliamson (new)

2535038 I think I may have enjoyed the film if I hadn't read the book first. Is always the same with these book film situations, the first medium you experience always clouds judgement for the next medium.

message 5: by Jo (new)

2457455 Yeah i agree. I rarely prefer the a film to a book tho because they cut loads out and change bits and the way i imagine things to look in the book are different to what they look like in the film so that leaves me dissapointed too.

Do you have any vampire books to recommend?

message 6: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 Although I don't really consider I Am Legend a true vampire book it's still worth the read. Necroscope is an awesome vampire novel, better than most IMO, and I'm pretty burnt out on the whole vampire thing. Plus you can never go wrong with Dracula.

message 7: by Jo (new)

2457455 I read a review for Necroscope it sounds pretty good

message 8: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 It's awesome, and I am sick of vampires, but it's worth the read, and you don't need to read the rest of the books to feel like you've completed the story.

message 9: by Jo (new)

2457455 How many books is there?

message 10: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 14 and still counting, but they are broken into segements 1-5 is one story line 6-8 is another, 9 & 10 are another, 11-13 is another, and 14 might be standalone. See Brian Lumley's website for the order, since they are not all titled with what book number they are. Worth the read though. He's one of yours too!

message 11: by Jo (new)

2457455 Oh right cool i might have to read the first one and see what i think of it

message 12: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 If you don't mind romance, The Black Dagger Brotherhood series is really good, the first book is Dark Lover. Other than that Vampire Academy is my favorite.

message 13: by Jo (new)

2457455 Are The Black Dagger Brotherhood very romancy?

message 14: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Haha they have really awesome fighting scenes and the brothers are hott, but each book has an HEA (happil-ever-after) with detailed "romance scenes". :) I loved all of them though.

message 15: by Jo (new)

2457455 By "romance scenes" do you by any chance mean sex scenes? lol

message 16: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Haha yeah. They are pretty intense, but again I must say I loved all of the books and plan to read more of J.R. Ward's series.

message 17: by Jo (new)

2457455 Lol I have never really read anything like that before. Not sure if i would like it.

message 18: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Yeah I understand that. Have you read Vampire Academy? That is another really good series.

message 19: by Jo (new)

2457455 No but i want to. Its one of them series that i have never got round to trying because theres just so many books i want to read and i keep overlooking it

message 20: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Oh well that is my other favorite Vamp series... very good.

message 21: by Jo (new)

2457455 Cool. Maybe i will have to put it higher up my list. I took a little break from vampires but i feel the need to go back to them now. I was suffering from vampire overload

message 22: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Yeah I went through the same overload lol

1271418 Black Dagger Brotherhood is one of my fav series EVER! Hotness from all angles! Z and V are my fav. characters, but all of their stories are amazing. I CAN NOT WAIT for JM's book - I am dying for he and Xhex to get together!!!

*composes self* I loved Stoker's Dracula. I'm currently reading Let the right one in and it is one EERIE book, but not the traditional vampire story, that is for sure. I love Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series, and Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire series is entertaining. HUGE fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series too! (I just prefer books in series.)

message 24: by Jo (new)

2457455 I really liked Let The Right One In. I plan to read Dracula next month even though halloween isnt a big deal in the UK

message 25: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Oh, another BDB fan! :) I read the entire series for the first time starting in April I believe straight through until Lover Avenged came out and now I am going through withdrawls. JM's book is going to be amazing and I plan to re-read the series before it comes out.

message 26: by Ashley (new)

1271418 I've re-read twice and will probably do so again when the next book is released!

message 27: by Stuart (new)

2350266 The Bram Stoker original is my favourite, I also like I Am Legend if that counts. A little disappointed with the "urban fantasy" vampire stuff I have come across so far. I would dearly like to find something vampire orientated in that genre that had a bit of depth.

message 28: by Lynne (new)

1436130 You can't beat Bram Stoker's Dracula and I just loved Salem's Lot by Stepehen King. I like my vampires to be staked through the heart not fall in love with humans!

message 29: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Lol Lynne... what about fall in love with other vamps? :)

message 30: by Lynne (new)

1436130 Each to there own! Lol!

I love the Let the Right One In. If vampires exist, I would have called that book one of the twentieth century classic.

message 32: by Lori (new)

2361637 I'm surely glad someone said Salem's Lot, and how about Interview With A Vampire. Both great books.

message 33: by Jo (new)

2457455 Salems Lot was pretty good. I thought there was a bit too much description of the local people though and not enough vampire action. Loved it still though.

Has anyone read The Strain? That was really good

BDB is on my To-read list, everybody seems to love the serie. But to be fully honest, I have a problem with the books covers which are quite "steamy". I won't feel that comfortable reading them outside...!

message 35: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Hehe yeah... I for sure didn't read them outside. See these books I read out loud because my husband liked the storyline as well and the content was very, how did you put it? Steamy...

message 36: by Leanne (new)

2253667 the Argeneau series is also quite good
at least i thought so :)

message 37: by Kerry (new)

2713380 Salem's Lot!!!!

message 38: by Rebecka (new)

2388577 i like the vampire academy series

message 39: by Dean (new)

2464171 I've only read one series centered around Vampires and that would be Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. My favorite book of the ones I've read is easily The Queen of the Damned, closely followed by Interview With The Vampire. Although I'm reading Dracula right now so maybe that will change :)

message 40: by Jo (new)

2457455 I have Interview with a vampire at home. I havent had chance to get round to reading it yet. Hope you enjoy Dracula! I will be reading that soon :)

message 41: by Jim (new)

695116 Fred Saberhagen wrote a good vampire series based on Stoker's Dracula. One is the Dracula book, but from Vlad's POV. Others were set in the 60's & 70's. I think Thorn was my favorite. Lots of flashbacks to his breathing days, getting to meet the Medici family & such.

I like a lot of the urban/paranormal vampire stories, but they are candy books. Quick, enjoyable reads, generally eminently forgettable. My daughter likes them too, so we now have a 3' x 30" bookshelf filled with them. I think the early Anita Blake series was my favorite of them all.

message 42: by Melodie (new)

1199857 I love the Sookie Stackhouse books, but probably some of the best vampire books I've read are INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE and FEVRE DREAM by George R.R. Martin. There was also a vampire PNR series written by Linda Lael Miller some years back that started with a book called FOREVER & THE NIGHT that was great.

message 43: by Jo (new)

2457455 I just finished the second Sookie book and i am enjoying the series. The show is pretty good too.

message 44: by Jim (new)

695116 Are there 9 of the Sookie books out there now? I read the last one in HB, a friend loaned it to me. No, she gave it to me for loaning her the rest. Anyway, I really liked them, but I'd have to skim them to tell you what was in them now. They're light, fun & not particularly memorable. Candy reads.

Yes, 9 of them. #10 comes out in May. It's called Dead In The Family.
