Just yesterday I bought a book called 'Farm City' about a lady who starts her own little farm in downtown Oakland, CA. Since I live in the Bay Area too and since I'm always curious about a sustainable lifestyle, I can't wait to start reading it tonight. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61646...
It gets quite good reviews all over Goodreads too :)
I've become really interested in intestinal health after a mother of a child with autism recommended "Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Intestinal Health Through Diet" to me. People with autism often have gut issues. Two of my husband's brothers have GI issues due to Crohn's disease. It's not just for those dealing with autism, Crohn's, IBS, or Colitis--we should all understand the importance of GI health. There are wonderful recipes in here, too. Check it out: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41616...
I haven't read this one yet, and it's really geared toward mothers and infants, but Nina Planck's "Real Food for Mother and Baby" came out a few months ago and is supposed to be good: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52586...My favorite cookbook that is foodie- and sustainable-foodie friendly is Alice Waters' The Art of Simple Food, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/68866... She offers a lot of great ideas about packing lunches and making healthy snacks for kids in addition to providing incredible recipes.
I'm always looking for new books about how I can better watch what I eat and how to prepare better food for my family. This book just recently came out: "Living Raw Food" by Sarma Melngailis. The recipes in it are fantastic and friendly to both meat-eaters and vegetarians. I bought mine on eBook at www.booksonboard.com -- that way I'll always have the recipes on me so I know what to get when I swing by the grocery store.
Has anyone else found any new/old good books about healthy eating and living?
