2123622 Any readers here of those two? I just finished "Don't Tempt Me" by LC--no surprise in that I loved it.

1654851 I am a fan of Loretta Chase. I recently read Viscount Vagabond, and The Devil's Delilah, two of her older, out-of-print traditional regencies. But Lord of Scoundrels is my favorite, hands down. :o) In fact, the hero from Viscount Vagabond reminded me very much of Lord Dain from LOS. (LOS is quite, um...steamy, just FYI.)

Of Madeline Hunter's I've only read a couple of her medievals. I liked those and have heard positive things about her regencies.

2123622 Hunter's regencies are less funny and more dramatic that LC's, but clever and historical--and with to-die-for heroes. I loved Hunter's "The Seducer" and "Rules of Seduction."
Of Chase, I loved "Mr. Impossible", "Lord Perfect" and L of S!!

2012809 Oh B! You just named two of my all-time favorite HR writers.

I am one of the few who prefer LC's trad regencies. DEVIL'S DELILAH is my all-time favorite.

Right now, I do prefer Madeline Hunter over LC. I generally prefer a more sensual, darker read in general.

2123622 With either of those authors, I often prefer a reread than something new from a lesser talent. If you like the darker side, seton, did you read Captives of the Night by LC?

MH has a facebook page and has alluded recently to finishing an upcoming work. Does anyone have a hint about the title or topic? I haven't seen it anywhere!

2012809 i thought COTN was okay. thought LC had growing pains with her first few long historicals.

MH will start a new series with Berkley in spring 2010. she is rushing to have 2 bks back to back to start off the series. it's about women of dubious reputation at a boarding house matching up w/ a bunch of men who know each other. I find her Twitter account or her Yahoogroup to have the most up to date info

1432412 Once I read Mr. Impossible I immediately bought as many LC books as I could. I love her writing.

I haven't read LC but I love Madeline Hunter! I have several of her books- loved The Romantic. And, B, I know EXACTLY what you mean about rereading vs reading newly published, shall I say it?,...drivel. I reread my books all the time and have quite a collection.

Though afer reading 'Not quite a Lady' I've found she can be rather serious too. Love her!!!

I like Loretta Chase's early stuff best, English Witch was great

2556522 I would never even think to compare these two ladies' bodies of work. Their writing style and content is totally different. Ms. Hunter's work has depth, is serious and is sometimes dark. Ms. Chase's work has a lot of humor without being silly. She is so clever turning a phrase and with her dialogue. And, yet, Ms. Chase can also be serious when the situation calls for it.

Both ladies are wonderful authors whose work I thoroughly enjoy. I must admit that I smile more often while reading Ms. Chase's books. But that is entirely due to the above. Both ladies are smart and entertaining writers and automatic buys for me.
