I loved this series when they first came out! In fact, I just finished re-reading them a few months ago. I think now I actually enjoyed them more than The Vampire Diaries.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series! It is so good. I read them when they first came out too (age me much?). I liked them more then the Vampire Diaries too. I wish the Secret Circle books were going to be a series on the CW but Vamps are more popular right now then Witches!
If you read them when they first came out do you have the old versions of them? So there are like 4 books instead of 2?
Yes I have the old ones... I didn't know they made into two books instead of four! Looks like they did the same thing for the Vampire Diaries!
I have the individual books as well. I made the mistake of buying one of those combined volumes of her other series thinking they were new books!
Well i read the first book and didn't know that the old ones could still be bought so i waited like 3 months for the new edition of the last two!
I never heard of The Secret Circle series, are they any good? What are they about? Oh, is the show The Vampire Diaries or something like that based on the books, The Vampire Diaries?
Mackenzie-yes the tv show is based on the series although it's interesting the show casted a brunette when the main character in the book is a flighty blond. The Secret Circle follows a group of teen witches who are split between supporting an evil power or supporting the power of good.
I read this series when it first came out and I read the re-prints about six months ago. I love LJ Smith and she is one of my favorite writers though I think that this series was one of her weakest. It was still enjoyable and classic Smith.
Yes, she is the author of The NightWorld Series, Dark Visions Trilogy (my favorite), the Forbidden Game Trilogy, Secret Circle, and Vampire Diaries.
I enjoyed the Forbidden Game ones and Dark Visions ones too. I didn't care for the early Night World ones though.
I actually loved the first two in the Nightworld series. Ash, Quinn, James and Galen were my favorite heroes from that series.
I just finished the Secret Circle, and I'm confused about their ages. I thought that they were split between seniors and juniors, but then later, you find out they were all born within a few months of each other. How does that work?
It only takes a month to decide whether you got to kindegarten or stay in preschool. If your birthday is the middle of September you have to stay in pre school, if your birthday was prior to the middle of September, you go to kindegarten.
I think I got a little mixed up. I thought that you could only be leader once you reached a certain age, and Diane and Faye would reach that first, in November. But I thought that they celebrated someone's birthday first--Adam's I think. I don't know, I read them from the library, so I can't even go look it up right now.
I think all their birthdays are towards the end of the year so some missed the cut off and had to wait a year to go to school.
I think you had to be a certain age to be voted a permanent leader and everyone assumed the leader would be Diane but then Faye challenged her. I dont' think any of the others wanted to be the coven leader.

I'd even like to have the NightWorld series as a show! I love those books more than I do Vampire Diaries.
They're classic L.J. Smith (prior to the disaster that is her renewed Vampire Diaries series *cringes*) - but they're filled with complex character drama rather than the cheap hormonal posturings that a lot of wannabe YA writers tend to think is all young people are about. Yeah sure, we've got attitude, we're rude, and we can be shallow *looks in mirror and pouts* ;) but we actually do think about... stuff. You know *makes vague gestures* deep stuff. And the Secret Circle is a great illustration of that. You guys should check out Cate Tiernan's Sweep series, first book is Book of Shadows Sweep 1, there are 15 books altogether, not very long per volume (a little over 250 or so pages each) and they're AWESOME witch fiction (deep psychological moral, complex craft mythologies, great characters), they're a MUST read if you liked the Secret Circle series.
