1757121 I linked it to my FB page, and I got some new fans. I am still very much in the "figure it out as you go" phase. I may try linking it to the book sales site next time around to see what happens. :-)

1837176 Hey Sharon-

I am experimenting with FB ads at the moment as well. I'm running one for a week with only a $1 daily budget (that goes much further targeting ads to Egypt than it does to the U.S.). Got some extra traffic yesterday. I'm wondering about the difference in linking to the FB page as opposed to linking to a website in the ad. I started my ad linking to my FB page but got no hits. I changed it to link to my website and then finally got some hits. What are you linking to? If it's your FB page, did you pick up any new fans or just traffic?

1757121 Not that I can see. :-)

I will add that I ran a 24-hour Facebook ad (cost me $5 based on my choices) and got some additional traffic that way. Lessons learned in that were that the higher you place your bid per click, the more likely it is your ad will run. My initial request never appeared at all, LOL. What they do is ask you to name a daily budget, the duration of your ad, and how much you will pay per click. They just stop running the ad after you hit your limit, which is good.

It was a useful experiment, and one I'm likely to repeat in the future. :-)

1757121 Thanks for sharing this tutorial, Jaimey. I hope to see lots more fan pages for our colleagues here as a result of your help. :-)

1654851 It occurred to me that some of our wonderful members may not know how to create one of these fabulous fan pages on facebook. I thought I would include this brief tutorial. :o)

Start here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php...

Select your category: I chose the third one, Artist, Band or Public Figure. (Writer is the last option in the drop-down menu.)

Name of writer: (Rather self-explanatory)

Last step: Be sure to check mark the box that you are verified to create this page for the writer you represent, including your electronic signature.

After that, it is up to you what kind of related content you want to post. The first thing I did was edit my general info and upload a profile pic. Then I added a photo album featuring the cover art for my four books. I felt a little lost after that, wondering what to do. I added some links: one to smashwords.com for anyone who wants to sample up to 50% of each of my books, some nice reviews here on goodreads, some general "Jaimey Grant" related updates, etc. I made sure fans are able to post to my wall and comment on content--if I remember correctly, these are the default settings.

Eventually, you'll have something similar to this: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jaimey-Gra...

Mine's not the best example, so here's a few more:

The Poisoned Apple: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Poison...
Gina Collia-Suzuki: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gina-Colli...
Sharon Cathcart: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sharon-E-C...

Super easy! Let's get those fan pages up and running, people!! :o)

Any questions?
