1857647 Every once in a while a craving for a REALLY steamy HR novel envelopes me...
Any suggestions?

message 2: by new_user (new)

1365355 LOL. I'm going to bookmark this thread. ;)

I see you've read Susan Johnson. Have you read any Thea Devine, Emma Holly, or Cheryl Holt?

message 3: by Eastofoz (last edited Jun 27, 2009 01:37PM) (new)

939365 Emma Holly Beyond Seduction
Lisa Kleypas Suddenly You
Suzanne Enoch Sin and Sensibility

I'm assuming it's straight HR and not an erotica HR setting right?

Beyond Seduction (Beyond Duet #2) Suddenly You Sin and Sensibility (Griffin Family, #1)

1113032 What is HR?

message 5: by new_user (last edited Jun 27, 2009 01:44PM) (new)

1365355 Historical romance. :) I need to read more Enoch, LOL.

1113032 DUH....the name of the thread says it all.

I like ALL romance as long as the characters are solid and the sex it hot. *gasp* Did I say that out loud?

message 7: by new_user (new)

1365355 LOL. No disagreements here.

1113032 OK, who can suggest an awesome, historical romance series where the characters are NOT prudes.

message 9: by Eastofoz (new)

939365 I think you'll like Enoch NU --she has great bad boy characters in interesting situations with strong heroines.

1113032 I tried doing a search for Enoch NU and found nothing. Can I get more information?

message 11: by Eastofoz (new)

939365 Oops there Uniquely Moi! "NU" is the other poster "new_user" (I'm too lazy to type it all out--lol!) The historical author is Suzanne Enoch (just click the link for her books). Hope that helps :)

Well now, I feel silly. LOL

Thanks for the information. I really am interested in good, steamy romance novels. Does she has a series that stands out more than others?

883725 I'll second East's recs of Suddenly You and Beyond Seduction. Those books were smokin' and about as close to erotic as you can get without tipping the scales.

Another book that I thought was very hot and sensuous but sweet is Dara Joy's Tonight or Never.

Also Liz Carlyle doesn't always have a lot of loves scenes in her romances, but the ones that are there are usually pretty steamy. My favorite book of hers that I've read so far is The Devil You Know.

message 14: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 for me it's beth williamsons historical westerns::smokin::sensuous::slow and sultry::very tastfully written::but not shy to be explict::i like sex written that way::

message 15: by Lauren (new)

790403 Julie- I just checked those books out
Tonight or Never ... I love it the first line says he is Lord of sex .... doesn't get any better then that ladies.
and adding it to my TBR list

message 16: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (new)

883725 Lauren, I'd almost forgotten about the heroes nickname in that one, but I can say that he definitely lived up to it. There were quite a few creative and steamy love scenes in that one. I found it to be a very fun read with lots of humor too.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

790403 i can't wait to get a copy of it. sounds like i am really going to like it.

message 18: by Joy (new)

1857647 I made a shelf for "Steamy romance". Since so many people enjoy a REALLY steamy novel I thought it would be a good addition to our bookshelf. :)

1113032 Sounds great! Can't wait to check it out.

message 20: by Auntee (new)

886675 For me it was probably Passion by Lisa Valdez.
Passion (Berkley Sensation)

message 21: by Eastofoz (new)

939365 Oh yeah! How could I forget the crude and lewd Passion --that was a yuck read :-o

message 22: by Auntee (new)

886675 Don't laugh, East, but not only did I like it, but I cried!:)

message 23: by Joy (new)

1857647 Eastofoz wrote: "Oh yeah! How could I forget the crude and lewd Passion --that was a yuck read :-o"

Never read it. What was the "yuck factor"?

message 24: by Eastofoz (new)

939365 Auntee a lot of people cried at that one and loved it. I just thought it was gross so many parts with the f*ck this and that used everywhere, c*ck here and there. Totally misplaced for the characters I thought. The ending was seriously gross with the baby. I just didn't like the story and even less the hero.

Is it weird that this is just making me more curious? LOL

message 26: by Eastofoz (new)

939365 Nah, I think a lot people want to see what all the fuss was about --that's why I read "Passion", "Nauti Boy" and "Marly's Choice" --and I hated them all 8-) (lol!)

message 27: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 i'll read some stuff and think *gross*:: then the same sort of activity written in a different way and i'm thinking ooh::i think alot has to do with the *language*::

message 28: by Joy (new)

1857647 Adrienne wrote: "i'll read some stuff and think *gross*:: then the same sort of activity written in a different way and i'm thinking ooh::i think alot has to do with the *language*::"

Thats true sometimes I feel that the author describes the scene too crudely, and it doesnt fit the rest of the book.
For instance, if the heroine is timid, and suddenly during the love scene she acts like she is in an erotic novel with language that does not suit the time period...
I hate that!

message 29: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 i'd love to be able to find more romantica type stuff:: i don't mind kinky but i don't like crude::

message 30: by Joy (new)

1857647 I just finished Too Wicked to Tameby Sophie Jordan! It has some pretty steamy scenes. Very hot! :)

1987431 My two cents worth:

Worth Any Price (Bow Street Runners, #3)Her Ladyship's Companion

message 32: by new_user (last edited Jun 28, 2009 10:08AM) (new)

1365355 I'm going to put Christina Dodd's novels on this list too. I think hers have somewhat less steam than Kleypas but you'll still need a fan, especially with these guys. ;) Note that some of her novels are pretty light in this area, so choose carefully, LOL.

One Kiss From You (Switching Places, Book 2)Rules of Attraction (Governess Brides, Book #3)

message 33: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 i've gotsome kleypas on my tbr shelf::will have to sort them out::i've been reading such good things about them::

message 34: by Rane (new)

1987431 The Raven Prince

Elizabeth Hoyt books are pretty hot and steamy!

message 35: by Eastofoz (new)

939365 Adrienne wrote: For instance, if the heroine is timid, and suddenly during the love scene she acts like she is in an erotic novel with language that does not suit the time period...

Then I can't see you liking Valdez's "Passion" Adrienne. That was one of my biggest problems with the book.

message 36: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 yep:have to say i like things to be scorching hot::and the language for me has to be right too::i don't mind dirty talk but it has to be subtle and loving i find that far more of a turn on (in fact it can be be excrutiatingly exuisite if it's done well) than *oh yeah baby.....and f**ck me* repeated over and over again ::

message 37: by Lauren (new)

790403 I keep adding new books...... This could be dangerous hehehehe

message 38: by Joy (new)

1857647 Lauren wrote: "I keep adding new books...... This could be dangerous hehehehe"

I'm seriously considering adding a shelf to my profile titled steamiest HR novels. LOL So I completely relate!

message 39: by Lauren (new)

790403 yeah I just have HR.. however I have an Erotica shelf
but steamy could definately be a shelf all by itself

message 40: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 why not?::that's what your shelves are for:) ::i'm a bit sad i love to see what names people give to their shelves::i can't decide which is best::authors::or:: genre, you know steamiest hr::ride 'em hard cowboys::sexy vampires::i've tried both but get terribly confused(not too difficult for me tho' ha ha)::

message 41: by Joy (new)

1857647 I really need to sort through my romance shelf on my profile. My romance is all clumped together, which means I have HR meshed with paranormal and whatnot...my bad! :(

message 42: by Lauren (new)

790403 lol I have to keep adding shelves too
Some times I don't know what to name them either like I have authors that I really like but then I group the rest of them as Paranormal series heheheh
but I really like that Sexy vampires shelf! I might redo my shelves today now and add a steamy shelf.

message 43: by Adrienne (last edited Jun 29, 2009 08:02AM) (new)

2087365 i was just thinking about doing that:: if it doesn't work out you can always get rid of them::all the books stay on the read shelf or tbr shelf anyway::what about *hot guys in leather*?::i've seen one of those::if you like black dagger brotherhood hey they can all go in there::

message 44: by Joy (new)

1857647 Adrienne wrote: "i was just thinking about doing that:: if it doesn't work out you can always get rid of them::all the books stay on the read shelf or tbr shelf anyway::what about *hot guys in leather*?::i've seen ..."
LOL You should create a discussion for "cool names for the shelves on goodreads" LOL Obviously with a better title.

message 45: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 hey good idea::

message 46: by Joy (new)

1857647 Adrienne wrote: "hey good idea::"
I'd put it in the general, or chatterbox folder. I bet a lot of people would find it interesting. :)

message 47: by new_user (new)

1365355 Oh, I forgot about Hoyt. Good one, Rane.

message 48: by Rane (new)

^^ Thank you *can't wait for her next book!*

message 49: by Adrienne (new)

2087365 Anyone have any more steamy suggestions? I read A Carnal Agreement that was hot between the sheets and think it may deserve a place here.

LOL I've been lazy in my reading! I really need to delve back into my romance books so that I can start adding to some of these discussions again. :)
