2426796 As a group we want to make sure that you do not come and go without being acknowledged! We value every author. So before posting please introduce yourself and tell us about your work. We are a supportive family here. So on behalf of my wonderful fellow moderators: “Welcome to the Author Support Group. How can we support you?”

1740143 Hello, I'm Kathy, independent author kgcummings. I've written six novels. Five are published, and the sixth is ready to go to the publisher soon.

I was born in upstate NY and have also lived in Michigan, and Ohio. But the place my heart calls home is Florida where I've lived for over 30 years.

I write a lot of poetry. I have a lot of fun at www.WorldofPoets.com and www.thepoetstree.com . I join nearly every social network I come across, but spend time at just a few.

My private life is just that- private! I do have a special man in my life, one grown daughter, and a very naughty parrot named Samson. I love my grand nephew, dogs, motorcycles, and ice cream.

My novel series opens in the early 1960s, and follows Jeff “Mad Dog” Madison, a playboy and airman, as he first meets Beth Campbell, a naïve country girl just stepping out from the traditional values of her hometown. Their whirlwind relationship and subsequent life together makes this a highly romantic, work of historical fiction.

The first novel, The Wind Whispers War covers the beginning of the conflict, and deals with the relationship between Jeff and Beth during this period. It is not an action-packed war story. It is a love story following one family through life, laughter and loss, giving readers a feel for what the era was like. In the words of one reader: “It will take young people to a strange and mythical time, but take many of us back to joyful memories and harsh realities.”

Thanks to all that read my intro. This support group at Goodreads is a fine and friendly place to be.
kgcummings... Kathy

2443327 Hello Everyone!
I have had a wonderful time here on Goodreads and want to thank Jaimey for her kindness as well. My name is Thomas Hollowell and I am the author of two books and have been published in several magazines and journals. My first book, Allah's Garden is doing well and receiving good reviews. I have some great signings going on in CT, NYC, IL, and IN if anyone lives in those areas. With this book, we are running a Buy a Book, Win a Trip to Morocco! sweepstakes, which you can read about in the contest section of this group. You can also visit me at Allah's Garden by Thomas Hollowell.

My second book is The Everything Travel Guide to Ireland, which is due in 2010 by a major US publisher. I now work with an agent and am putting together (brainstorming) ideas for my third book.

Thanks to Everyone!

1877052 Hey everyone!

Author and Thomas I just 'friended' you. And Jaimey, my dad's name is Thomas, too! I wish my name was Author. Imagine introducing yourself at parties,

"I'm Author *dramatic pause* the author."

Okay, I'm going to introduce myself but first I must wake the child and get him ready for school.

back in a bit,

1837176 Welcome, welcome! Ahlan wa sahlan, as we say here in Egypt! I'm excited to be a part of this support group - and love the technology that allows us all to meet here.

So, I'm a new author, having self-published my first children's book in December 2008. I was a teacher for 8 years before I decided to take a break and complete An ABC Escapade through Egypt. Not sure I'll go back to teaching, though. At least not in the traditional sense.

I'm American but have called Egypt home for half of my life - sometimes I get a bit confused when asked where I'm from. ;) I hope to share my love and knowledge about this country through my book.

1654851 I'm so happy to have you here, Bernadette! Welcome! :o)

Terrie, you're so clever! "I'm, Author...*dramatic pause*...the author."

Your dad is Thomas too, huh? Do you think we could be twins, separated at birth? I mean, the resemblance is uncanny. :oD

636441 Hello all,
I joined yesterday but didn't get around to the introduction part. I already know many of you and think this idea of mutual support is great.
For those who don't know me, I'm a retired newspaper editor/writer. I've published seven novels, including three in the Sticks Hetrick mystery series (a fourth is currently awaiting my publisher's opinion).
I welcome interaction with each and all of you.

message 29: by Robert (new)

2363398 I think I posted in the wrong place before. I'm Robert Lee Thompson. I have two books published and I hope two more before long. I don't know if you're like me in that I have serveral books started but until this year I've done nothing with them. I went ahead and had two of them published and am looking over another one to see if I think it is ready. Y'all are a good bunch of people and I'm glad I found Goodreads. I am very friendly southern man (maybe a gentleman) so I look forward to being in this group. Thanks for the support.

message 30: by Jaimey, Co-Moderator (new)

1654851 Congrats on publishing your books, Robert. I know exactly what you mean about having several books started but not really doing anything with them. I was the same way until last year. :o)

Welcome to the group and goodreads!

message 31: by Thersa (new)

1877052 Author, I agree with your sentiments. My thirteen-year old son loves Michael (I got him hooked a couple years ago). We stayed up and watched a bunch a specials they had about his life. I didn't realize the Japanese adored him this much. Many tears by all. And as for Farrah, I was in elementary school and wanted to be an "angel" every minute of that life. RIP.

Jaimey, oh, yes, twins! Can I be the evil one?

Robert, I need to go see where you're from. I was raised in the deep south. I still you ya'll and fixin.

I love it, Robert! I moved to South Carolina when I was in first grade, but only spent a year there. After that, it was eight years in Montgomery, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida. All my summers spent in Greenville, Mississippi. When we get rich and famous let's have a beer and talk about the nuances between all those Southern accents.

terrie

message 37: by Thersa (new)

1877052 Oh, introduction:

My name's Terrie and I just had my first book (a collection of short stories) come out on Counterpoint Press. It's called "A Robe of Feathers and Other Stories", seventeen stories about Japanese folklore, superstition, and those creepy mythical creatures that keep popping up everywhere. It's funny, my agent calls it literary/magical realism but some readers have labeled it horror.

I came to Japan on a scholarship almost twenty years ago and other than a year back in Omaha to graduate from university I've been living here ever since.

I must say this is just about the sweetest forum I've ever been a part of.

Thanks all, need to wake the child for school,

t

I've posted the first chapter of Werewolf Dreams on my home page. I know you're all quite busy, but if you have the chance to read it, I'd love the feedback!

Happy Monday, and a big welcoming hell to Thomas (who's friended me :~)) and Terrie.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi, my name is Rebecca (or Becky). I live in northern Wisconsin where I am the mother of three children. I work as an accountant, teacher, and now as an author.

I just published my first book called A Gift for a Mouse (www.redemptiontalesseries.com). It is a Christian children's book about a mouse that witnesses the Last Supper. It is the first in a series of books. So far it is doing pretty good for the marketing is just getting off the ground. All this is so new to me. I sold five books on Friday and I am so excited. Every sale sends me cheering.

Sharon, you add such a lovely vibe to our crew. I am sure it is becoming that because that is honestly what we all need right now; a soft place to land. I have found the publishing process exciting with the exception that there is a coldness and aloofness by some who I guess have been jaded by the process. I hope this group in some way can keep us from going into a hard shell and keep our spirits vibrant and positive.
