1448151 What was said before about Hollywood rehashing older classics or making the latest video game into a movie is REALLY getting old. Mostly, I think it is just because the stories sucks. Period. Too much reliance on gore or special FX to make a film scary....and there have been some exceptions. Mind you, I think RZ teaming up with Ed Lee...or making a Lee novel into a horror flick would be a dream come true! :)

I fell out of this discussion, and am now catching up. But I can tell you for sure that I go camping in Northern Wisconsin every year...and the south is NOT the only place with "rednecks". Not by a LONG shot. Remember...Ed Gein is from Northern Wisconsin. His story was adapted and MOVED to the south for Texas Chainsaw. But the people in that show, and in stuff like DEVILS REJECTS, that's Northern Wisconsin as much as any place in the south.

Wow...I just thought of something...maybe Rob Zombie needs to collaborate with Ed Lee!!! Could you imagine that combo??? I'm not a fan of Zombie's films and feel that he needs somebody else writing his stuff. Maybe Lee is the guy!

1302171 Lori.... I believe it is mainstream horror dying because they show the same tired concepts over and over, with little thought to quality or originality. People like us, who are in the niche of horror, know that their is plenty of good horror novels out there, it's just too bad other media doesn't follow suit.

2361637 "I Have Figured Out Why They Say Horror Is A Dying Genre"!!!

IMO because they don't know how to make really engaging, grab you by the seat of your pants movies anymore. Their to busy Fing up our good old ones. Calling them re-envisioning & re-imagining, like were stupid. A remake is a remake no matter what else they want to call it. I know some of you are going to say they have made some good original movies over the past few years. And i agree they have made a FEW. But the bad & the remade make up the majority. Not to mention the shockingly gross over bloody slashers that barely have a plot. But that's just me.

226335 Wasn't being sarcastic. Should have included a smilie. Darn this non-emotive Internet. I'm glad I made you smile.

Would most probably not watch a remake of Mad Max. I hate remakes 99.9% of the time. There are so many original movies to watch, I can't waste my time on remakes.

message 474: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 Seriously, they've been peddling and messing with scripts for a couple of years now. But no one has pulled the trigger.

message 473: by Chris (new)

1448151 Jerrod, you're probably right on that one.

Of course you do, Tressa! Sarcasm, my name is Tressa! :P

message 472: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 I made Chris smile? My day is complete.

Don't want to see a new Mad Max.

message 471: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 ohhh, a new Mad Max has been circulation for a year of so now, but they want to make a re-envisioning of it.... like everything else.

message 470: by Chris (new)

1448151 Wish he'd make one more Mad max flick...that'd be great! ;) LOL...Tressa, quite possibly the funniest thing you've posted...ever. :)

message 469: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 Maybe this explains the drunk binges?

Aw, I still love Mel. And have ever since I saw Mad Max as a teen.

226335 Dave, thanks for the Beaver film link. I thought the title of the article was pretty funny: First Look At Mel Gibson’s Beaver.

message 466: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 This thread had a track back on page 1 but the train has since derailed. It's an interesting little thread nonetheless.

message 465: by Rusty (new)

991587 This thread has a track? If so, I've never seen it.

message 464: by Shawn (new)

1697111 THE EDGE OF DARKNESS is a remake of an extremely good British mftv Horror/Conspiracy thriller, just to keep this thread on track

message 463: by Dave H (new)

2521108 Here's an article about 'Beaver'; it's directed by Jodie Foster and sounds...interesting...

message 460: by Scott (new)

732181 It's about the beavers that made the cross on which Jesus died for our sins.

message 459: by Chris (new)

1448151 That was very funny, Kelly! :P

1302171 Dunno, just from the IMDB list. Could be about one of the dumbest college teams... Oregon Beavers!

1448151 Hello, Mel! What's next on the movie/directing front? :P

message 453: by Lori (new)

2361637 Come on people, that shit isn't even funny!

message 452: by Scott (new)

732181 How do you feel about the Jews?

message 451: by Cathy (new)

590841 I am not in A.A. -- maybe I'm Mel Gibson and I'm just too drunk to know it?

message 450: by Chris (new)

1448151 Well, it IS LA, right, Kelly? ;)

but are you in a.a.? my brother is out there, and it seems anybody who is anybody is in a.a.i guess to make it big you must first find a vice , then kick it.unless, of course, you're anti semitic, thanks mel.

message 448: by Lori (new)

2361637 William, sorry to say this but those are the ugliest shoes next to crocs i have ever seen. I love my plain white New B's, for kicking around in.

message 447: by Chris (new)

1448151 Cool, man. The last Van Belkom novel I read was Teeth. Freakin' awesome book and very twisted. I need to read something by him soon...

message 446: by Jason (new)

783046 Yes, Edo is doing YA at the moment. And yes, I agree, he is a fantastic author!

message 445: by Chris (new)

1448151 Yeah, I haven't read any of his stuff in a while, but I have maybe 2 or 3 laying around, plus his Evan Hollander short story collection.

That is a cool name. I'll have to look for his stuff here. I did, and most of the books look great. I love short stories

1448151 I have heard (obviously) of both those authors, but there's a fantastic Canadian horror writer named Edo Van Belkom (what a cool name!) who's written some solid horror novels and also erotica under another name. Lately, I think he's gone to doing YA novels...

Tanya Huff and Kelley Armstrong are two of my favorites. There are so many other great Canadian authors. Just as there are great author's all over the world

Genocide is defined as the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political or cultural group. The French aristocracy do fit into the definition, regardless of the instigator of the Revolution. The peasants did the dirty work, just as Stalin's "useful idiots" did.

I agree, molded plastic shoes that are over priced, what a rip off. Heck, I only wear shoes so I can get service in the places I shop.

message 438: by Jo (new)

2457455 I hate crocs but my 4 year old nephew has some and they are so cute!

message 437: by Chris (new)

1448151 Ugghh...crocs. I wouldn't be caught dead in them, no offense. I will have to check these shoes you speak of, Tressa. I used to have a pair of motorcycle boots many years ago that were so comfortable and worn out...loved 'em. Well, maybe not the best thing for my feet but I did love those boots. Now...if only I had a "hog" to go along with 'em...lol

I cannot stand book snobs of any kind and gladly flaunt my love of horror just to make them flinch or roll their eyes.

message 436: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 William, those look comfortable.

I have such an eclectic collection of books that my horror might get overlooked. I have lots of general fiction and classics, too.

Cathy, you should have lit your black candles and pulled out your Ouija board to scare the delivery guys.

and their creators ought to be supported when winning an award.

You said it! The Bram Stoker Award is a big honor.

Jarrod: Canadian book snobs, sort of like the ones in the government, are totally in love with their highly acclaimed Canadian Lit authors. Authors such as Margaret Attwood and Robertson Davies. There are a lot more, of course, and I love some of them, too. But they have to understand at some point that there are other genres out there, with authors who can write just as well as these people. And even if they can't write just as well, the market and the arts exists, and their creators ought to be supported when winning an award.

590841 Borns are nice shoes!

A few years ago, some furniture delivery guys saw my copy of "The Satanic Verses" and asked if I was a Satanist.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Back about 15 yrs ago I had a teenage kid come and
help me do some yard work had him come in for lunch
and he got a look a my library and what I read and
told me I was going to hell. This from a 15 yr. old
kid kinda shocked me. I thought about it later
and if am going at least all my friends will be there
so I'm good.

226335 Earth Shoes have changed since the '70s (I had some back then and they were groovy). I waited until Crocs sort of died out and then found some new ones at a thrift store. They're the ugliest orange, though. They are comfortable and that's important to me because of my retarded flat feet.

My favorite brand of shoes is Born. They are to die for.
