Thanks Jaimey!
Jj wrote: "Very good. Hope it has the desired effect of drawing more fans to our pages."
Hey Jj, the Snapshots went over very well. You should definitely use them. I guess it is kind of like the Look Inside on Amazon which is why I am going to take Jaimey's advice and use do it. Let me know how it works.
Fan Page Advice...Like our blogs you can add favorite pages at the bottom of the Facebook. I recommend we do this gradually so our fans are not overwhelmed with too many suggestions. As we become familiar with each others work it would be good to write a blurb about the other author's work on our Wall then add them as a favorite page. Now we are using Word of Mouth at the highest level. You can also send messages to your fans from the page. Jj we will draw more fans if we build up our fan base. Facebook adds are dirt cheap. You can advertise for as cheap as $1 a day. I do $5. You can stop anytime. Also encourage your fans to suggest all their friends. That takes the work off of you. Worked for me...
I finally set up my fan page but I'm not quite sure what to do with it now...http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jaimey-Gra...
Hi, Jaimey. I'll "fan" you when I get home (we don't get FB at work). I felt a bit at loose ends when I first set my page up as well, so I understand what you mean. First thing I did was "share" it on my wall so that my friends could all see it and join if they so desired ... and from there I started to update.I'm going to try the ad thing as well.
Sharon wrote: "Hi, Jaimey. I'll "fan" you when I get home (we don't get FB at work). I felt a bit at loose ends when I first set my page up as well, so I understand what you mean. First thing I did was "share"..."Thanx so much Sharon!
So far, all I've done is add some info and a photo album of my book covers. I'm not sure HOW to do anything else.
Also, are you all fans of your own pages?
Yes, I'm a fan of my own page. :-) I see nothing wrong with that, LOL. (Plus, it allows me to see the updates on my wall so that I know they're coming through all right.)
Gina wrote: "Jaimey, I'm your first fan! :o)"Yay! I have a fan! I find it quite ironic that my very first fan is someone who hasn't read my books. LOL :o) I feel like I have my own personal fan. heehee

Very, very good point, Sharon. Thanx!
Jaimey wrote: "I find it quite ironic that my very first fan is someone who hasn't read my books. LOL :o) I feel like I have my own personal fan. heehee...."You do! And I am also fanning in anticipation of loving them when I do get around to it. :o)
Gina wrote: "You do! And I am also fanning in anticipation of loving them when I do get around to it. :o)"I feel so special...and terrified out of my noggin! If anyone were to notice the historical discrepancies in my novels, it would be an Austen fan like you. *cringe*
I am in the process of writing a historical novel and appreciate the amount of work that goes into getting things right, and the need for a certain amount of artistic license... fear not, I am sure I will love them. I already love the covers :o)
Gina wrote: "I already love the covers :o)"You are the second artist to say that. You have no idea how much that pleases me! :o)
What time period is your historical? What's it about? Is it going to be a steamy romance or more about the history? Sorry. I'll take a breath now. ;o)
One thing I have to admit: Many of the place names, towns and the like, I either made up or just borrowed the names. My focus was not the places but rather the people, my main characters to be precise. I am all about the emotions, what drives a person to do what they do. My novels are definitely character-driven. I'm not sure why the Regency era is the comfortable one for me to write about; it just is.
Have I totally put you off reading them yet? It seems to be what I do when anyone expresses interest. (Just FYI, I have free PDFs of each available, especially for my overseas friends since my pbs are ONLY available on the US Amazon.)
Many thanks for the offer of a PDF, Jaimey. I shall, however, raid my piggy bank and buy the books. I like to curl up in bed with my toastie socks on and have a good old read. I like everything about books... the way they feel and smell. And you haven't put me off :o)
My book's set in late 18th century Japan... a love story mixed in with a bit of intrigue and scandal, with a very strong female character. I've been having great fun.
Gina wrote: "My book's set in late 18th century Japan... a love story mixed in with a bit of intrigue and scandal, with a very strong female character. I've been having great fun."Oooo, now I'm super intrigued. You must tell me just as soon as it goes to press. :o)
Fanned everyone!I'm a fan of my page, too. I wasn't for the longest time - and I loved seeing the ads for my page pop up on the side of the page. Once I became a fan (to see the updates like Sharon mentioned), I stopped seeing them.
Jaimey, you can import your blog to your page's Notes.
Sharon - thanks for the message and suggestion on my page. I'll definitely check them out!
Bernadette wrote: "Jaimey, you can import your blog to your page's Notes. ..."I didn't know that! Going to check it out :o)
Bernadette, I've signed up for Social RSS and have added my three blogs, but can only find an option to add to a side box on the wall or to the 'Boxes' tab. How do I put it in 'Notes'?
If you go here:http://www.facebook.com/apps/application...
Then click on 'Add to my page' on the left-hand side, it lets you add your RSS feed for your blogs to your fan page. There's a bit of fiddling to do, but mine is now in my 'boxes' tab:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gina-Colli...
I don't like the 'boxes' tab though. You can put a little box on the wall, on the left, but it's dinky.

Girlfriend, you taught me something new! And I am with Jaimey. What the heck is an RSS feed?
It's the thing that lets your blog (or other content, such as pod casts and the like) be fed onto other sites. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)
Isn't the Internet a wondrous thing!
Did I ever mention anywhere that my feed finally went through on my Amazon author page? They like to pick and choose which posts to include. I hate the new setup.

Do you get an Amazon author page if you are digital or does everyone have an author page whose book is made available?
Madison wrote: "Do you get an Amazon author page if you are digital or does everyone have an author page whose book is made available?"I'm not sure. I would think everyone who has a "book" available would get an author page. You have to sign up for author central to edit your page.
https://authorcentral.amazon.com/
Here's my page: http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B002BM7QUW
I think the duplicating blog posts on mine have finally been sorted out:http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B002BMIDLS
I do wish the older blog posts would stay on the page though, like they used to. The last three is all you get now.
Ok, I did the whole social RSS thing. I'm not sure yet how I feel about it, but, whatever. I haven't got a clue how to do a blog linky-do in Notes. Then there's the fact that I'm incredibly boring as a human being--hence the reason I make people up in my head. Living vicariously and whatnot.
So what kinds of things should I post to the wall? What are snapshots and how do you do them? Is posting on the wall really the only thing you can do with a fan page? Who actually sees the updates? All the fans? My friends, too?
Sorry. I've never felt so lost in my life. Except when I first signed up for facebook. Odd...
Hi, Jaimey. Anyone who has signed on as your "fan" will see the updates you post on the wall. I chose to put up a couple of sample chapters under "notes," and I've had some discussions about the book with an early reader who *really* liked it (made my day, as she's not a fiction fan ordinarily). Under Notes, there is an option to set up an RSS feed; you just put in the RSS data URL there (I'm feeding my GoodReads blog on my regular Facebook page).I have put up links to both of my books (one is a military history book; if anyone wants a free download, please go to http://www.scribd.com/doc/16078362/Born-...), to my short story that's currently entered in a competition, and photographs of the gorgeous key fob my friend made to commemorate my book's publication (it has a mask, a horseshoe, music notes, and green and blue jewels ... all pertinent to the story).
In other words ... whatever you think is appropriate/pertinent can go there. :-)

Sharon, what a great idea to put up fan feedback and even good reviews. Excellent!!!! Did not think of that.

Oh, and I put some photos from my first school visit. I meant to get more from my other signings and visit but I forgot the camera! I need to get some discussions going now.

I wish you well on Discussions. My crew does not seem to like discussion that much. I wonder if it is not fan friendly enough. Something about it is not hooking them. I must investigate.
Here's my fan page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wesley-Cha...and my regular facebook page (feel free to add me as a friend) -

I think I've successfully fanned everyone here.
Hi, JC ... I've "fanned" you as well. Like Bernadette, I think I've got everyone. If for some reason you *don't* find my name in your fan list, please feel free to send me a message and I'll take care of it at once!
Hi Everyone:I will take a look and become a fan of your pages ; ) Great idea! My fanclub page for my newest book, Allah's Garden, can be found here at the Allah's Garden Facebook Fan Club.
Enjoy!

Hi Thomas-
I notice you have a group for your book/fans instead of a page. (I joined!) Do you think there are benefits to having a group instead of a page?
Hi Bernadette:I am not sure, good question. A page might be easier to maintain and anyone can write on the wall and such. Maybe others can help us out with this one. The Allah's Garden one is actually a Fan Club that I did not start, but I joined and now use that to communicate with others. It seems that others are finding the page somehow. So, whether it is a page or a fan club, I suppose it is about the same thing?
Thanks!
Thomas
I don't feel like I have enough traffic out there yet to warrant a group ... perhaps after the paperback comes out? Right now, the fan page is a useful way to update the 34 people who care, LOL.

Hey Gang,
Groups are great also and can allow your fans to post information easier. The advantage of a fan page is that you can convert it to an ad. When I start a few weeks ago I started with about 15 people, now I have well over 200. I did an ad campaign for about 21 days. It was very affordable.
