So currently if your profile indicates that you live in another country (such as France or the UK) for which Amazon has a website, we direct you to that Amazon site (amazon.fr in our example).
But I just watched a user who wanted to buy a French book, which was only available on Amazon.fr, but since he lives in the US, the link didn't work.
So I'm considering changing it so that if you're looking at a book in French (by the books language field) OR if you are in France, then we take you to Amazon.fr. Can anyone think of a reason not to do this? Or an even better way to do it?
I think it's a great idea. I go to the other sites manually, but when I do that GR doesn't get referral credit.
How about about the countries that do not have amazon.com? Would it be possible to assign each country's (at least those present at goodread.com, there are many national groups) largerst internet bookseller?
BTW: do goodreads members have any way to influence some publishers on what to translate and publish in the US? I keep hearing about great books by different European authors, but so many of them are not available in English.
