2692649 I'm with Jana on this one. I saw it a couple months ago when it was first available in my area. I think they did a good job, but the problem is that most of the people who are excited about it and will go pay to see it are the same people that are already well-informed. It seems easier to convince people to spend an hour or two of their lives watching a movie than it is to convince them to read a book, though, so hopefully this will be useful to spread the word.

Nophoto-f-25x33 I saw it today. It's a good overview of food issues that people in this group are probably very familiar with already. This is a film that we'll want to give to those who haven't considered where (or how) their food originates.

103 I don't have children yet, so I will put that list on my to-read list for when I do :)
Just like you I am very concerned about the offerings in schools. Hopefully by the time my children get to school, there will be better offerings and more awareness.

1849037 It would! The vending machines in my high school didn't even offer water--just soda and Gatorade. There shouldn't even be candy or soda vending machines in schools. That's just ridiculous.

I think that last statement of yours is so funny by the way! Have you had a chance to check out Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder by Richard Louv? He would also appreciate that statement. :-D

103 Wouldn't that be wonderful, if the schools were forced to serve healthy meals?!
Also kids need to play outside more. Playing can sometimes be an exercise, and even when it isn't, it takes a kid's mind off the chocolate bars.

1849037 I hope the same. I recently read an article about the increasing rate of childhood obesity in my county. I believe there's going to be a rally in Washington, D.C. tomorrow to urge Congress to reauthorize the Child Nutrition Act. Schools need to be doing more, but like you said, families need to eat healthy meals together. Nutrition and health awareness should begin at home.

103 I am also very excited to see it - hopefully it will be able to raise awareness in the whole of the US. A friend of mine, who likes to eat unhealthily, already proved it did not work on him, he called it propaganda.
But I hope for the many people out there who want to eat healthier and just don't know how to, it will give them some good answers.

Whatever happened to cooking good old potatoes and vegetables for your families??

1849037 Starring in the documentary are Michael Pollan, author of In Defense of Food, and Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation. It has just been released in the U.S., and I'm mighty excited to see it. Let me know your thoughts on it if you've already seen it!
