Yeah, I know that's why but it's still an awful ending. . . He was definatly my favorite character. He like made the book more amazing.
Me either. I think the author just needed for Tally to be upset and have nothing to lose by going against Dr. Cable. If Zane had been alive, he would have been a liability. But it just makes me sad cause I lurved him.

I stopped reading after Specials too, I just didn't want to read anymore without Zane there. I like cried for hours when I found out he died. Totally ufair.
Kate, I think you hit the nail on the head. I think it's Westerfeld's style of writing more than the actual stories themselves that attract me. I've enjoyed everything I've read of his.
I stopped after Specials, I wasn't interested in continuing with another POV. Besides, Zane died in 3, I didn't want to risk having to see Tally with David.
I loved the series until I got to Extras. I loved that the plots were so fast and driven, that I couldn't put them down. Tally was my favorite character, but then in Extras, I hated her. Maybe it was the point of view switch or something, but I didn't like her as much. I'm looking forward to reading his other series though. I like his style of writing.
Awww, that's too bad. Scott Westerfeld is one of my favorite authors. I'm reading Leviathan right now. :)
I liked Uglies, Pretties was just OK, it felt like a repetition of Uglies, I was never interested in series enough to finish Specials. I never felt emotionally invested in the characters, they all seemed too distant for me. Not inspired to try anything else by Westerfeld
I really liked Uglies. Pretties was just ok, I started to read Specials and just gave up and I heard Extras was even worse than Specials.
I enjoyed this series, wasn't amazing, but it was certainly entertaining though I would have to say that Pretties was my favorite in the series.
I love Scott Westerfeld! Midnighters is my favorite, but Uglies is a close second. I also love the Peeps books, and So Yesterday. And I can't wait to read Leviathan!
I agree with Lacy....I love all of Scott Westerfeld's books and they are also very, very popular with all of the students at my school. In fact, there is already a long hold list for his latest book titled Leviathan.
I've actually liked all of Scott Westerfeild books I've read. Unglies was the first ones I read and finished them in about a week. i liked them a lot. i did feel a disconnect from Extras though. I liked Midnighters read all three in two days. I found them very entertaining and a quick read. So Yesterday was my least favorite but still a good book. I think my favorite book of his so far was Peeps the last days was good as well but not as good as peeps in my opinon.
I will say that his books tend to build and build to the great climax and you think how is everything going to end and then all of a sudden there's no war or stuggle the charicters just make a decision and things work out ok. kind of a let down after the books build for so long. but other than that very enjoyable and a good read.
I thought that they were bizarre, I didn't like them very much. The romance wasn't very good and the writing style made me want to jump off a cliff. Did anyone else feel this way?
I use the first one in my 8th grade English class as an introduction to Utopian/dystopian literature.
The only books I've read by Scott Westerfield is the Uglies series. I really enjoyed them, but I didn't really like Extras as much as the rest of the series.
Really? I liked all of them! I have heard so yesterday is good. i tried midnighters by same author but i just cant get into the books
The first one was good, but it just went down-hill from there... I thought the end of the series was rather disappointing.Tally's character kind of seemed unrealistic: the glorified hero who isn't really all that special...
I really liked So Yesterday by the same author though.
