1572236 Two great choices !!

I love Poe - good excuse to go back and re-read some of his stuff. And the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been on my TRB for a long time so it will be good to get that one done for a group.

Yes, that's what I mean : ) Thanks Angela.
Maybe I just missed them last month....

Valpal, I just finished Woman in White - see you on the spoiler page discussion when you're done!

143168 Lori, I like the "Upcoming" post!

message 121: by valpal (new)

54091 I agree with Diane that it's very interesting to read all the suggestions. But darn it, I'm still reading The Woman in White! The good news is that I have already read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and it is a a truly great read. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

1396160 I love Poe's poetry. I like to read his outloud, but only alone, because I get into it and read with a lot of feeling. My oldest brother and I used to read it out loud together in trees. Those are some of my favorie childhood memories.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hello :) My name's Jen and I just joined! Nice to meet you all! Just thought of saying hi and that I would love to join the group reads! I have The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and I also have quite a few books from Edgar Allan Poe :) Can't wait to start!

message 116: by JG (new)

48404 It pretty much works that we read and discuss them all month. But there's not really a cut-off date. The discussion threads will be most active the month that we read them, but they're frequently resurrected much, much later when someone else reads it and sees the discussion we had.

message 115: by Coconut Library (new)

2414546 Hi! I'm brand new to the group, so just have a quick question... is there a time frame for finishing these books, or are do we have all of July to read and discuss?

Thanks! Looking forward to reading with you all! :)

message 114: by Catamorandi (new)

754081 I obvioiusly love Poe. I'm the one who suggested this book. I will definitely will read this book in July. I can't wait.

message 113: by Christina (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I love Poe! Can't wait to break out my Complete Works... and read these stories again!!

message 112: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 I will be starting the threads on July 1st (or the night before) so we can start discussions on them. In the meantime, have fun collecting them :)

2313970 I still feel dizzy. Got to log out and rest! Too much to take in... *sigh

message 110: by SiNgUrL (new)

2313970 OMG! I opened Project Gutenberg and couldn't breathe. I want to scream. I think I'm blushing like an idiot who just found the love of her life and yes, I have. Ebooks!

I feel dizzy!

message 109: by Maria (new)

1396560 so excited about Poe! i think i'm going to try and do both group reads this month, they are both something i like or want to read! and best yet, i may be able to get all (or at least most) of the Poe stories from the anthologies i have laying around from college. i knew i kept them around for a reason!

message 108: by Joe (new)

Nophoto-m-25x33
i nominate THE JOHN CHEEVER SHORT STORIES. They are charming, very realistic tales of men in a by gone age. I thought of him when i heard of the commuter train wreck in dc. his characters rode many commuter trains.

Ha Dree, I can't afford my addiction either! I'll likely only be able to read the Poe short stories. Looking forward to some chilling reading while hopefully catching some July rays.

message 104: by Dree (new)

837466 Well, I have requested the 2 EAP collections from my library that have all these stories. Yay! I have loved every one of his stories I have read, in spite of having to read Cask of Amontillado every year in high school, which turned it into an "AGAIN?!" IT's been 20-odd years for that one!

I don't have much hope for getting The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo out of my queue again this month. I have started it, but got overwhelmed...and it has a HUGE queue.

I don't buy books, I can't afford to keep up with my own reading :)

I'm willing to bet that every one of these stories is available for free on-line at some location such as Project Gutenberg

265874 Lori, I have to say that I was overall impressed this month with members following the rules.

message 100: by Dree (new)

837466 My library doesn't have that edition, so I will start cobbling together stories from what they have. I wonder if I can find the collection that I already own? hmmmm

message 99: by Becky (new)

1376766 Me too K, I have the complete works here, so I'm up for discussing whichever stories and/or poems we're discussing!

message 98: by Kandice (new)

1396160 I LOVE Poe, and even though it's not what I nominated, I will be happy to re-visit him!

message 97: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 oh no,,, not again!
Does the title of the thread say anything about nominations? Huh? Or even voting?

Ahhhhhhh....

message 96: by Diane D. (new)

143168 Diane wrote: "Category 1: "Those Who Save Us"
Category 2: Interpreter of Maladies"

Hi Diane - the voting is closed now and the winners are The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Best Short Stories of Edgar Allan Poe.

If you join in next month, you make nominations for only one category; and when you vote (one for each category) you click on the tab in the right hand side on the top here that says Polls.

1405910 I have a copy of the complete works of Poe, so if someone would be so kind as to post the short stories within this edition, that would be awesome!

message 90: by Dree (new)

837466 Do we have an edition for Poe? I will try to get it from the library, but need to go with a slightly different one.

Maybe I will even get Larsson's book out of the queue this month! Maybe.

message 89: by Fiona (new)

1356469 Yay!! I hope everyone likes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo now he's won.

message 87: by Deidre (new)

2435622 Thank you! :-)

message 86: by Megha (new)

1727205 Diedre, you need to go to the polls section and vote.

See message #83 : "you have to vote under the tab that says Polls. It is on the right side of the screen at the top - do you see it? Click on Polls under the heading The Next Best Book Club."

Hope this helps.

message 85: by Deidre (new)

2435622 Hello, I am new, but I thought I'd vote anyway!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie

message 84: by Mitzie (new)

249558 Just wondering, if the Short Stories winner end up to be The Best Short Stories of Edgar Allan Poe, it doesn't have to be that particular edition of Poe's short stories collection right? Seeing as there are probably a lot of other editions with only slight differences.

Maybe if the book ends up winning, someone can post here or in the discussion threads which short stories are in that edition. So it can be something like a guide for those reading other editions?

1396160 What's up with all the adverts? I swear, it's feast or famine. No in between.

message 80: by Fiona (new)

1356469 Because this is a book nomination topic for this group, it is not a place to spam your GR group.

Secondly, they were your first posts here. It's entirely inappropriate.
