Since I've already read The Poet by Connelly which features McEvoy, I'm just wondering if there are any other books I should read before reading The Scarecrow......since I like to read in order. Ann need not respond to this post. LOL
I'm pretty much of a RIO person, but I don't think anything else is necessary here. McEvoy is a minor character in The Brass Verdict, but there is not enough material there to warrant reading that first.
I generally read in order, but I'm not sure anything is needed prior to the Scarecrow. Nothing that went before mattered to me in reading this.Barry

Ok, I know my reading out of order indiscriminatingly drives you a little nuts...<g>
so I won't tell you that you are ok reading The Scarecrow now... I am looking forward to it. As Cheryl pointed out, McEvoy is a very minor mention in The Brass Verdict. I think I even commented on the lack, so why include him at all. Perhaps that will be revealednow.

And I am the RIO person, I would even say that for the most part The Poet and Scarecrow are stand alones. There are a couple mentions to The Poet but nothing really spoiler material. The only thing that would ruin the Poet is if you read scarecrow first is what Jack does to the killer in that book.
The FBI characters - particularly the women agents -from The Poet reappear frequently in the Harry Bosch novels.
My suggestion is that since all of Michael Connelly is so good, it's worth reading all of his mystery/thrillers and you might as well do it in order, but I'm biased since I'm definitely a RIO reader.
But if you've already got Scarecrow, let it rip.

Michael Connelly was here Monday and I couldn't go. sigh....but I just ordered The Scarecrow from the library.
Michael Connelly does not do a lot of conferences, but he is the guest of honor at Bouchercon in Indianapolis.

I find it neat when I read his stories and other characters just pop up. Can't remember which one, but didn't Harry walk down the street and someone from another book stop him for a quick conversation?

I don't remember that, but Harry Bosch described Elvis Cole (Robert Crais) driving by in one of his books.

Thanks for all the comments. I've started The Scarecrow and hope it's as good as others by Connelly.
