Has anyone seen the new documentary, Flight from Death, The quest for Immortal Life-- I just Did, I wanted to see what you thought.
It has to do with the theory that we are death deniers. It chronicles human behavior and correlates our behavior with the fact that since death scares us or is so unknown, we spend much of our time subconsciously denying it will happen. It equates much of our prejudice and lack of tolerance for others with denying our death. For instance, if someone has a different world view than us, we feel threatened and may act out against them. Not all the time, only when reminded of our death in some way. They did a study where people took surveys that unknowingly reminded them of their death. The other half of the people in the study did not take the survey. When meeting someone different than them, the one's who took the survey were not very tolerate of the people. (It's almost like if I have an idea that I am going to "this heaven" with "this God" and you have another idea of what heaven is and whom God is, then one of us is wrong, so it has to be you and I feel threatened by your wrong views. I mean, what if you are right?) They explain it much better than I do and go into a lot more detail. I thought the concept was intriguing. I am going to follow up with some of the books. It's worth getting the DVD and giving it a look. If you do, let me know what you think.Check it out on the website:
