Libraries need some serious buzz to purchase a book by a new author, so that patrons will tell them to order it. They also go by Library Journal reviews. So if there's a rave review for a new author in Library Journal, they may well purchase the book if they have the funds.

As far as my library goes, it seems more and more books by debut authors are not showing up in the library catalog as pre-orders especially. I assume due to less funds to purchase books. Sad for the authors and for the loss of exposure and availability. We can hope that buzz around the books that have a following will encourage libraries to add the books later. An example here, Sean Chercover's first book hasn't been added to the library stacks (though I haven't checked back on it in a while) even though later books have been bought.

1744604 It may be a little early although it is listed on Amazon. Colin is an untried author, and many libraries have not even heard about him. I will do what I can.

I do like British police procedurals, and I tried to search for it on my library web site but got listings by someone named Lady Colin Campbell. I'm guessing this is not the same person.

Maybe it's unrealistic to expect a first time author will be purchased by the local library or maybe it's too soon? i don't know how that process works for new authors.

This sounds like it might be good.....even if it is a "Brit" mystery which I don't usually care for!

Colin was a Yorkshire policeman for 30 years. His books are basically police procedurals. He also has a very black sense of humor.

1744604 Gail,
I can now definitely add a book by a friend of mine.
Colin Campbell's book Blue Knight, White Cross will be published in the US on December 1. (The UK date is September 1) It is listed on Amazon for pre order.
I will talk it up more when the date gets closer.
