J.D. Stroube This discussion is devoted to new or upcoming historical romance authors. We all know the big spotlight authors, such as Eloisa James and Lisa Kleypas...However, we have all occasionally spotted new romance authors who will most likely make it BIG.

I thought it would be nice to create a discussion in order to suggest lesser known, or new romance authors...If anyone has any suggestions, please throw them out there, because I am always looking for new ones! :)

Someone new that I found recently...
Olivia Parker-At the Bride Hunt Ball
This was her first romance novel, and I enjoyed it so much that I cannot wait for her next!

new_user Oh, good topic. How about Sherry Thomas? She writes a completely different sort of romance, very atypical of the genre. I think most people who've read her agree about that. LOL.

J.D. Stroube Sophie Jordan and Laura Lee Guhrkeare two other authors that I recently found! I am absolutely in love with their books!

I just bought one of her books called Private Arrangements! I'm really excited to read her. I was browsing at Barnes and Noble, and happened to notice that her shelf had been picked clean. I figured I would give her a try since so many people obviously enjoy her! :)

Simone St James (simonestjames) Meredith Duran had her debut book out last year. It's called The Duke of Shadows. It's terrific. Her next book is out next month.

I'm reading A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore and so far I'm liking it...

seton (coulditbeseton) I like Sherry Thomas and Meredith Duran.
Didnt like Olivia Parker, Sophie Jordan.
Thought the Jennifer Haymore bk was okay but didnt grab me.

Marti (Marjay) I am reading Jennifer Haywood's book, A Hint of Wicked, right now too!!! So far I am liking it.

Sandra (bookjunkee) (sandra002533) | 4 comments I am reading Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas

Marti (Marjay) AH Simone _ I finished A Hint of Wicked - steamy and hot. A bit of a different story line - I liked that part and it sounds like her next book is going to carry on with some of the characters.... hmmmmm

new_user I don't think anyone mentioned Joanna Bourne. I really liked her first book. I wasn't interested to read the second (premise).

Mandy Hays (notnutsyet) | 4 comments Has anyone read The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter? I think she's a newer author, but I keep coming back to this book and can't decide if I should read it or not. I like the historical romances with spies, adventure, or murder mystery any good ones you guys have read?

Terri (Terrie) Elizabth Hoyt is good one author had written great historical books.

Debbie (halfpint66) | 145 comments Haven't read any "New" historical authors in a while.

new_user Mandy, Joanna Bourne wrote a good historical spy novel, The Spymaster's Lady. Stella Cameron also tends to include a little murder mystery in her HR. :)

Edit: And I just saw I mentioned her above. I haven't been paid to promote her, I swear, LOL.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 314 comments I liked Olivia Parker
others I liked (not necessarily LOVED)
Alyssa Johnson
Kate Noble
Lisa Marie Wilkinson
Emily Bryan
Anyway, these are a few that are new to me and I think are all rather new. I liked some more than others but I didn't dislike any of them :)

Dyanne (dyanneg) | 36 comments I have also very much enjoyedLaura Lee Guhrke Her "Girl Bachelors" series And Then He Kissed Her Is very fun and different.

seton (coulditbeseton) Mandy wrote: "Has anyone read The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter? I think she's a newer author, but I keep coming back to this book and can't decide if I should read it or not. I like the historica..."

Ive read it. Its not one of her best. Has a very alpha autocratic nobleman for a hero. She isnt that new. Has been published for 9 yrs now.

I love most of her stuff. Might be my favorite author of this decade.

J.D. Stroube seton wrote: "Mandy wrote: "Has anyone read The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter? I think she's a newer author, but I keep coming back to this book and can't decide if I should read it or not. I like..."

Wow, she has been around that long? I wonder why I never heard of her until recently...

seton (coulditbeseton) Madeline Hunter has hit the NY Times bestseller list so I would say she is quite established.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 314 comments I tried to read a Madeline Hunter book once and didn't like it. I don't know why but sometimes I just don't "get" the appeal of some authors.

Kathy Otten | 115 comments Mandy wrote: "Has anyone read The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter? I think she's a newer author, but I keep coming back to this book and can't decide if I should read it or not. I like the historica..."

Celeste Bradley has several Regency Spy stories, though I'm sorry I can't think of titles off the top of my head.

J.D. Stroube Kathy wrote: "Mandy wrote: "Has anyone read The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter? I think she's a newer author, but I keep coming back to this book and can't decide if I should read it or not. I like..."

I like Celeste Bradley too! :) She's a great author.

Kathy (hnybee411) I love Meredith Duran. I've read both of her first two books (both 5 stars) and have the third.

Lisa | 7 comments I think a new author that many people are going to like is Tessa Dare, whose Goddess of the Hunt was recently released. She writes the lighter, funnier type of historical romance.

Lisa Marie Wilkinson

KarenH | 10 comments Although she isn't necessarily "new", Julie Anne Long gets better with each book she writes. With her 2 latest books, Like No Other Lover and Since the Surrender, she's blazing a trail straight to the "big girls" league.

Stephanie Draven (stephdraven) | 4 comments I'm going to recommend Jennifer Haymore and Tessa Dare.

Stephanie (profreader) | 3 comments Can anyone recoommend an author who writes really good medieval type stories?

Lisa | 7 comments Stephanie wrote: "Can anyone recoommend an author who writes really good medieval type stories?"

I can recommend two! Catherine Kean has written a "Knights" series of medieval novels.

I am also about 100 pages into a new medieval called THE CONQUEROR by Kris Kennedy and it has been very good so far.

Kathy Otten | 115 comments I don't know any new authors, but Hannah Howell writes really good medievals and my favorite was Julie Garwood's, old titles, The Prize, The Secret and The Bride. And of course Judith McNaught's Kingdom of Dreams. Betina Krahn wrote, The Husband Test, which I loved. But these are older authors.

new_user I just read a really good medieval story actually. The Secret Swan.

Carolyn (ruffages) | 58 comments Stephanie wrote: "Can anyone recoommend an author who writes really good medieval type stories?"

Try Lynn Kurland. She mixes a little Diana Gabaldon (outlander) with more romance set in medieval Scotland/northern England. She has two series that end up intersecting. I suggest starting with the McCleod side...and A Dance Through Time. The English/French side is de Piaget and Another Chance to Dream.

You can find her genealogy chart for the order of the books at www.lynnkurland.com.

Stephanie (profreader) | 3 comments Awesome! Thank you!

Thank you too!

MelissaB (MelissaAnn) | 54 comments Pamela Clare is a great newer author. Surrender is an amazing book.

Paula Quinn has some good ones like Laird of the Mist

Judith James's debut Broken Wing was very good

Jennifer Ashley's The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie was a very good read as well

I read mostly older historical romance authors but I will occasionally try a new one

Carolyn (CarolynHughes) | 72 comments Veronica Wolff is a great new author (3 books so far with another new one due on Nov. 9th). Veronica writes "highlander, time travel."

Monica McCarty is excellent and by far my favorite new author. She has six highlander books out now. Series One: Highlander Untamed, Highlander Unmasked, Highlander Unchained. Series Two: Highland Warrior, Highland Outlaw, Highland Scoundrel. Monica releases one every month when she releases her series of three novels. I highly recommend Monica McCarty.

I, too, loved Jennifer Ashley's "Madness of Lord Ian McKenzie." I have high hopes for her next books in this series.

Carolyn | 2 comments If this is still an active thread, I'm going to chime in about a new author I discovered. I love Scarlett Rains' book Promises of the Heart (actually it's an ebook). It's an amazing HR. I liked it so much I reviewed it.

Carolyn | 2 comments Stephanie wrote: "Can anyone recoommend an author who writes really good medieval type stories?"

Stephanie you would love A Dance in Heather by Julie Beard. It's a fascinating love story.

Klara (Klarakitara) | 6 comments new_user wrote: "Oh, good topic. How about Sherry Thomas? She writes a completely different sort of romance, very atypical of the genre. I think most people who've read her agree about that. LOL."

I LOVE her books =)

KarenH | 10 comments Keta Diablo is a new author definitely worth checking out. Her book Land of Falling Stars, an erotic historical romance set during the Civil War, is an excellent read.

new_user Oh, Klara, I see you haven't read Not Quite a Husband by her. You will love that one! It's like a more romantic version of Private Arrangements. Dreamy. *_*

Klara (Klarakitara) | 6 comments new_user wrote: "Oh, Klara, I see you haven't read Not Quite a Husband by her. You will love that one! It's like a more romantic version of Private Arrangements. Dreamy. *_*"

True, I haven't yet. In Slovenia it's kind of hard to get all those books so I'm still waiting. I can already see I'm going to cry my eyes out ... I'm such a crybaby when it comes to books and movies :S

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 189 comments Tessa Dare is fantastic!! I LOVED her first three books, which actually only came out this year; Goddess Of The Hunt, Surrender Of A Siren, and A Lady Of Persuasion.

Read Them, I promise you wil fall in love!

Vanessa Marjolyn | 2 comments I would recommend Gaelen Foley & Celeste Bradley. Gaelen has well-developed characters, sexy & sensual. Celeste's has romance & intrigue & very delightful characters. I would say that you will be as riveted with how the conflict will be resolved as much as how the h/h HEA will go. A happy read for me.

I agree with Cheryl here. Tessa Dare is fantastic!

Fiona Goodman | 23 comments Ava Stone. Very New author. Very good.

Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave (HarryDresdensLoveSlave) | 129 comments I love Olivia Parker, Jennifer Haymore, Tessa Dare and Monica McCarty.

Bailey Bristol (baileybristol) | 8 comments I don't see Laura Landon mentioned here. Her book SHATTERED DREAMS is the #4 Regency Romance on Kindle this month. She has another one out, too. WHEN LOVE IS ENOUGH. She's very very good.

Heidi | 273 comments I just got Shattered Dreams for my kindle.

I read Shattered Dreams based on recommendations on Goodreads and was SO GLAD I did! I loved it!

Dianne (DES03) | 43 comments Stephanie wrote: "Can anyone recoommend an author who writes really good medieval type stories?"

One of the best Medieval series I have read is by Mary Reed McCall - The Templar Knights series. Beyond Temptation, Sinful Pleasure and The Templar's Seduction. It has been years since I last read this series but to this day the story remains with me. Another fabulous series is by Monica McCarty - Highlander Untamed, Highlander Unchained and Highlander Unmasked.

I have many favorite historical romance authors - Lisa Kleypas, Julie Garwood, Sara Donati, Beth Trissel to name a few.
