I enjoyed Strangers From the Sky. The situation where the Vulcans encounter humans for the first time is one of my favorites. We had such a short taste of this in First Contact.
The Final Reflection
Dreadnought!
Battlestations!
First Frontier
The Great Starship Race
The Wounded Sky
Star Trek, Book 18 My Enemy, My Ally
Uhura's Song

I was too late for the original TV show, but I have been watching them on Netflix.
I have been reading more in the last couple of years both Sci-Fi and Fantasy. After the new movie I started looking for any of the original books by Gene Roddenberry, but there is so much out there. I have no idea what is good or an order to go by. I would really like to read anything Gene before moving on.
Any help is appreciated?
I remember thinking How Much for Just the Planet? was hilarious when I was younger. Warning: It's slapstick, but it's the most effective slapstick I've ever seen in print.

I've not tried BookMooch - I'll have ot check it out. Thanks!
I will cast a second vote for Uhura's Song by Janet Kagan! Read it 20 years ago and have re-read several times--wish they do a sequel!
Also, Ishmael by Barbara Hambly. Lots of sf in jokes, but actually a very good story as well.
Also, How Much for Just the Planet? Is a very, very FUN book to read!! Also by John Ford.

I'm really glad I started this thread. There are simply too many ST novels to just pick at random. I knew people would have some good recommedations. Now I just need to find some shopping time this weekend!
I also enjoyed Spock, Messiah, Kevin. I also really loved Sarek by A.C. Crispin, which came out at least 15 years ago.
My favorite is an oldy called Spoke Messiah. It realy stays in character and explores the effects of missuse of new technology.

Libby, you'll have to read John Ford's The Final Reflection. It takes place about 40 years before the original 5-year mission when the Federation first encountered the Klingons and it's told entirely from a Klingon point of view.
IMO, it's the best of the ST novels; though I'd recommend McIntyre's novels as well (I saw that someone has already beaten me to The Entropy Effect.
Uhura's Song is one of my favorite books. It made me want to have tail! It's one of the older books, but just as good today as it was when I first read it 20 years ago.

Excellent suggestion, I'd forgotten about Peter David. Yes, his Q books are excellent.
Try one of those written by Peter David. He's really colorful and hilarious. He is also well known for his work in comics, on Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, and X-Factor, as well as Stephen King's Dark Tower series. He's true to the spirit of whatever he's writing on, but adds his own sense of humor to it. Most of his Trek books are about Q, if that tells you anything....

Spock's World is excellent. Several by L.A. Graf are considered pretty good (L.A. Graf is actually a small group of authors and it's an acronym for Let's All Get Rich and Famous) The Alan Dean Foster books are among the very best.
Hello!I've not read many, but I always rather liked The Entropy Effect which was one of the early ones. Vonda Macintyre has a nice touch with the Star Trek universe, and it has a passing similarity with the new movie.
I'm a big Star Trek fan (worked @ conventions and all – was once an autograph feeder to George Takei – really cool!) but I have never bought any of the books because I usually do not enjoy books based on a TV series. However, the recent movie gave me an itch for new ST adventures and I've seen all the episodes of each series except maybe the original (I’m 32 so I started w/ Next Generation). Are there some good ST books out there? There are so many to choose from I’ve love to get some suggestions.
