I am just about 4 or so chapters into it so far. And to be honest I am kind of confused. The story nor characters haven't been explained at all, so nothing is making since. Hopefully that will change soon and it will start to make since to me.

434780 I'm on a reading slump for the past days. Still nursing Holy Smokes by Katie MacAlister and struggling through Paolini's Eldest on audiobook. Hoping to finish both by tomorrow so they can be included in my challenge tally.

790403 I am finishing Hot Ice. I have been skipping over it for awhile now.

I'll be curious to see what you think of them. I read the first one a couple of months ago and thought it was just okay. I didn't necessarily like the protagonist and felt that there wasn't much depth to the story. However, I've got the omnibus edition, so I've got the next book in the series as well, and will go back to it to see if it improves.

Accepting that I'm not going to finish my RRR challenge this month, I'm attempting to finish up my PNR one, and as such have started No Rest for the Wicked. I'm also 3/4 of the way through Weddings From Hell which will allow me to tick off one more book on my RRR challenge. Enjoying both books so far.

882302 After not reading a historical romance for nearly a year, I have been on a bit of a binge :) I was really in the mood for a 'comfort' read so I went back to my all time favourite his/rom author, Amanda Quick. If you have a look at my members reading list, I didn't just stick with one either! I have been thoroughly disappointed with a lot of the new his/rom's. I read this genre mostly for the 'age of innocence' feel to them. For the straight up romance within a time period which I enjoy reading about. The new books I have picked up to have a look at reading lately are all about ex-courtesans or manipulating a duke/prince/knight etc. into marriage or it's more historical erotica. DON'T like it at all, and it has put me off reading this genre. BUT I have read quite a few of my own books that have been on my TBR pile for some time now, which I guess is the silver lining.

You guys who read his/rom's what do you think???

Anyway, back to topic, I am currently reading An unforgettable lady by Jessica Bird, so I can fulfill my read the month challenge.

2409769 After a series of disappointing books, and one very good screwball mystery, I'm re-reading an old favorite - Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase. She remains my favorite historical romance writer bar none. Love her Carsington books!

Oh Tosca thanks! I missed ur post about this earlier. Turns out the SoD series started with books 2 and 3. So I didn't buy them. But I will at least keep them in mind to swap or rent from the LIB.

Enjoy Paul's Dream. I am looking forward to the sequel!

Danielle pointed me in the direction of Paul's Dream by Rowan McBride so as soon as I've finished Court Appointed A Serving Love Story by Annmarie McKenna, Trash Sex Magic by Jennifer Stevenson then I can start in on Paul's Dream. Looking forward to it!

Started Trash Sex Magic this morning and so far enjoying it. Yay!

message 151: by tosca (new)

1704330 I've read all of the Sons of Destiny series. I was attracted to the covers (hello, half-naked men, what's not to like?!). started the series part way through about 3 yrs ago and then had to go back and read the first few, then caught up and had to play the yearly waiting game for each new novel to come out. Series finished now. Didn't enjoy ALL of them but certainly liked most.

message 150: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 BN.com is having a mega clearance sale. I was wondering if anyone here has read the Sons of Destiny series by Jean Johnson. Looks good. Strictly drawing from the cover of course =P.

message 149: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 It voided me from another challenge but I went ahead and bought Str8te Boys by Evangeline Anderson b/c I have no resistance what-so-ever when it comes to her m/m romances. I LOVE her male characters and how much story she can tell in less than 100 pages.

1895628 Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes

593685 I finished The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn and loved it. I also read The Perfect Kiss by Anne Gracie, it was just OK and I'm now reading For All Eternity by Linda Lael Miller; the last two are for the A-Z challenge. Got the Perfect Posion by Amanda Quick in the mail and can't wait to start it, I love her books.

This one is on my list as well as 3 of her other books. I'm looking forward to this author.

message 142: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (new)

883725 Yeah, it does Kenjii. I like to read other people's reviews after I finish a book to see if anyone felt the same way I did about it, good or bad. There have also been quite a few times I've run across reviewers who had a different take on things, but I could see where they had a good point, maybe it just didn't bother me in the same way.

message 141: by Kenjii (last edited Jun 21, 2009 08:46PM) (new)

1125077 Julie: I am re-reading the series and will see if I see what you see. Hehe. Does that make sense?

I just visited Rowan McBride's site, stories page and found out she is working on a sequel to Paul's Dream called Asher's Magic. Yum! She is renewing my interest in PNR again.

883725 Nichole & Kenjii, here's my quick take on the DH books I've read so far:
1. Fantasy Lover - Loved it.
2. Dragonswan - Pretty good, but I thought it needed to be longer.
3. Night Pleasures - Pretty good, but IMO there were a few too many corny one-liners and it could have used a little more character development.
4. Night Embrace - Way too many characters and plot lines to follow. The hero and heroine got short-changed. Acheron and Zarek were really what kept me reading.
5. Phantom Lover - Temporarily skipped it to get to Zarek's story faster.:-)
6. Dance with the Devil - I think the reason I'm liking this one better so far is that there is more character development. Where I'm at in the story, it has mostly just been the hero, the heroine and her wolf who she can communicate with psychically. This makes it a lot easier to get to know them.

I hope this helps in making your decision whether to continue the DH series, Nichole.

1125077 Julie: The DH series is a fave for me. Some I liked better than others. Keep posting your thoughts. It is interesting to see when people see the total opposite of what I really enjoyed.

Nichole: I've had Paul's Dream on my wait list for ages. wow! glad I finally am reading it now =D.

message 138: by Nichole (new)

74998 Ooh, Kenjii, that looks good. Welcome to my TBR!

message 137: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 I read a bit of Paul's Dream this AM. I really do enjoy her mix of incubus, wizards, and other magical creatures in a contemporary world. Def makes me want to pick up another story by her.

message 136: by Nichole (new)

74998 Julie, you're making me wonder if I should give the Dark Hunters another chance. I read the first three (well actually I didn't quite make it to the end of Night Embrace) and decided it was not for me and I would never read another. But I hear so much about Zarek I just wonder...

I finally got around to starting Decadent by Shayla Black, the "sequel" to Wicked Ties which I read back in February. This book has been sitting on my windowsill for months. I'm about 100 pages in, and it's every bit as steamy as I would have expected.

message 135: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (new)

883725 Kenjii: I'm now 87 pages into Dance with the Devil, and I'm definitely liking it much better than the last one. If it keeps this up, it should be a winner.:-)

message 134: by Lauren (new)

790403 I am reading Goddess of the Sea very "The little mermaid" esk.

message 133: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 Julie: I did love Zarek's story the first time I read it. Glad you decided to read it. Hope you like it.

message 132: by Barbsis (new)

1968285 I'm just starting Cindy Gerard's Show No Mercy. I don't remember if I've read her before but it sounds interesting and is the first book in the series.

message 131: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (last edited Jun 20, 2009 05:28PM) (new)

883725 Despite not being overly impressed with the Dark-Hunter book I just finished, Night Embrace, I decided to continue on with the series right away. I started Dance With The Devil last night. I blame it all on Zarek for being so darned intriguing.;-) Obviously he must have really gotten my attention, because I broke two of my own reading rules (not reading another book right away by an author who didn't wow me, and always reading series in order) just to read his book. So far, so good, but I'm only 27 pages into it.

My library has a few Silhouette nocturne books and I think I read 2, but I didn't enjoy them. I'll have another look, if they're as good as Rhyannon Byrd's series then i'll be very happy!
