1216574 Hey David,

Reading, 'In the Shadow of Ghosts' reminds me (not that I need to be)of your talent as a poet who feels, understands, and can communicate with people.

Proud to call you a mate.

Stuart

1825270 Thank you David for sharing your thoughts here.

The line "So when I'm gone, n' my spirit's untethered' resonates within me.

It seems to define true freedom, somehow......

1969312 Thought you all might like to see a sample of my work, one of my favorite poems, am also asked to recite this one a lot when doing my performances.

In the Shadow of Ghosts

To all and sundry I hereby attest
When writing my stories, to pen my best
Then literary heights I’ll try to aspire
Write like those I so admire.

Oh! To be Lindsay or Lawson’s shadow
See through the eyes of Mackellar or Banjo
Walk with Dennis in his gardens refine
Ride with Morant, along the Condamine.

Sit with Kendall, listen to Bell birds singing
Be with Ogilvie, when the stockyard liar was grinning
Evans, who honoured the women of the west
Boake, writer and horseman, one of the best.

Convicts singing their rum song of life
Esson’s tribute to the lonely shearer’s wife
Carleton’s wonderful song of Australia
Paterson’s famous Waltzing Matilda.

Capture the moment, the man rode Snowy’s side
View old Sydney town when ships moved with the tide
Ride Cobb and Co. along a winding dusty track
Travel with Lawson, in the beautiful, yet harsh outback.

So many poets and masters of their craft
Read so many, I smiled, I cried, I laughed
Their words, survive down through the ages
Published within many a books pages.

Though, try and try as I might
One day, I’ll get the metre just right
My rhythm, will flow like a song
The beat, will be a perfect soft and strong.

I know, with help from writers, present and past
My writings will grow, perfection I’ll grasp
So when I’m gone, n’ my spirit’s untethered
I hope my poems, will be read and forever remembered.
