Nophoto-u-25x33 Is it okay if I Start a book club here as I noticed you guys don't have one if I do start it the way it would work would be I would select a book then other people could suggest books I would narrow it down to about ten and we would take a vote and if anyone doesn't want to buy books go to your local library and borrow a copy so is it okay with whoever is in charge.

197279 I thought about having a book club with this group but I figured with all the bazillion book clubs on Goodreads and in the world in general it would just be too much for the group. I wanted to keep it simple. I wanted people to come come to the group with a goal of 50 books for support and one weekly question.

I don't mind having a book club/monthly book as long as it doesn't overshadow the main purpose of this group which is supporting each other in getting to our 50.

I know a book group can get complicated with choosing the books and posting discussions. My life has become uber busy so I just don't have time to moderate that aspect of the group. If we were to do this I need serious help and dedication with keeping track of posts and discussions etc. Does that sound ok? Please message me personally with any ideas you may have.

236116 I WOULD BE WILLING TO JOIN BUT I WILL ONLY READ THE TITLES OF MY INTEREST.

message 7: by Jessica (new)

1044994 I'd be willing to join, definitely. I know in some other groups, the person who suggests the book moderates the discussion, which might be a way to cut down on some of the work.

2362955 Sounds good to me, I'll join. But I might not always do every month.

message 9: by Lexi (new)

2065325 I think it sounds fun. As long as I have time and I think the book sounds good I'll try reading it.

2288360 Bookclubs are fine for those who are interested but I would prefer the bookclub be very secondary to this group's purpose. I really like the structure and simplicity of this group the way it is. I agree totally with Danine. I like the challenge and accountability of this group to keep me disciplined and not slacking off in my reading but get too complicated and disciplined and I'm lost and the fun is lost.

1758892 I love the idea, more choices, and more great books

message 12: by Mary Todd (new)

1230903 We could start a new group for our book club...and it could be the 50 Book Book Club. I'd be willing to moderate.

2362955 I'm soo in. This sounds really neat. I think we should all take a vote on what book every month.

message 14: by Danine, The Governess (new)

197279 Let me do some thinking and discussing. I will keep you posted.

2135995 The new book club has been up and running since August. I thought I'd make a post about it (if that's okay). We have 20+ members but the discussions are pretty sparse.

We start reading Toni Morrison's Beloved on the 15th so I was hoping to attract new members. Right now we're reading Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo if anyone's interested in discussing it.

We start nominating for November's book on the 20th so there's plenty of time to think about what you might want to nominate. Our reading schedule is from 15th to 15th.

I hope I peaked someone's interest :)

message 23: by Maggie (new)

Nophoto-u-25x33 yeah I'd be up for the book club

message 24: by Monef (new)

1250501 Hmm, maybe I will be up for that, I will definitely check it out.

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'd like to nominate "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", a book title I would not usually recommend, however I met the author, a young fellow, at a book fair recently and he was astounded at the number of books that have been sold to date. Even before it came to the bookstores, it had gone to it's fourth printing...due to word of mouth. I think it's supposed to be funny. Even a group of die hard Jane Austin fans had heard of it even before printing...so that kind of peaked my interest, and I think I would be more willing to buy something like that if I knew I could discuss it intelligently with others. Also, quite a few people who post in the 50 Books a Year site have already read it...which seems like a good recommendation to me.

message 26: by Susanna (new)

2135995 Carol,
If you'd like to nominate the book, I suggest you could check out the book club and join if you like. When the nominations open, you could post yours in the nomination thread as it's group policy. :)

message 27: by Susan (new)

1758892 50 books, book club sounds good!

message 28: by Nadine (last edited Oct 11, 2009 08:04AM) (new)

1744090 I'm joining. I easily read 50 books a year, I just never keep track and then update my Good Reads only about once a year. I like all the book nominations so far, some I have read others are on the shelf. This gives me the push to pick them up and read them! I getting the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo started and Beloved dusted off and ready to go!

Carol, the book club can be found here. The nomination post is not up yet since we haven't started reading our next book yet but it should be up before the end of the month.

message 31: by Susanna (new)

2135995 In case you're interested: the nomination post for November is up. Voting for the November book will start on the 29th!
