I absolutely loved The Color of Water. That is a terrific memoir.

1250501 I'm Monef, I just noticed this group today and it makes me sad that I haven't really paid much attention to Goodreads since I joined. This challenge sounds perfect for me. I think I will give it a shot anyway and see how far I get by the end of the year. I will try to add as many as I can remember reading so far this year to the list too. I'm really hoping to be in good shape for next year.

2751946 I will start next year.I'm just afraid that it may happen the same thing it happended in my 5th grade: I got out of books.
by the way I probabily read about 20 books in more or less 3 months.I have to provide my room with books to be ready.untill there, bye
PS-I hope it counts to read the same book in two languages, I mean they ARE different books right?

2135995 I think I'm reading #49. Which means I hardly "have to" read more this year. But of course I will :)

Will be interested to hear what you think of this book Joye as I have heard and read mixed reviews about this book and it's on my to purchase list !

message 123: by Jane (new)

1877087 I read all the posts in the group and make notes of book recommendations but I work long hours and don't have internet access at work. I have just updated my booklist in the readers 50 books in a year listing and have amazed myself this year by starting book #134 today I believe ! I have never read so much in my life before but I seem to spend most of my unoccupied life reading. Thanks to various groups on Goodreads I have updated my reading in terms of style and content. I used to read mostly classics but have really expanded my variety now. Thanks for such a great group ! Jane in France

2426596 I'm on books 46 & 47. I've hit a "plateau" and haven't had the will to read :( I'm avoiding my reading for my preliminary exams, and to keep myself focused, I've restricted my pleasure reading (in the hopes I'll do my required reading). Instead, I sit and stare a computer. . .

279142 It took me a long time to get throgh Dorian Gray too. I remember some chapters just being long, drawn out descriptions with no dialog-ugh!

I just finished book 48 last night and I'm halfway through #49. My goal was to make it to 50 books before September when I'm due to have my second baby and then just to be content if I mange to read more than one book while on maternity leave (which is all I managed with my son.) I'll definitley be at 50 long before my due date so now I'm just hoping to add any many as I can.

message 114: by Breezy (new)

1964375 FINALLY!!! I made it through #17, Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray". I think that is the longest it has ever taken me to finish a book. No matter... I've decided to do some easy reading for my next several selections. I've already read them, but not this year, so I guess it counts!
#18 down...
Janette Oke's "Love Comes Softly",

... now on to #19, Janette Oke's "Love's Enduring Promise". I am going to make it!

1883508 Have read 32 out of 50 so far and I've got 8 more on my currently reading shelf but who knows when I'll get those done. It seems like they've been sitting on my shelf for ages.

I think I could finish 50 for sure by December, hopefully more?

Happy reading, everyone!

1857936 I managed to hit 52 by the end of June. I'm currently aiming to see if I can come close to equaling that in the second half of the year. Might not be as easy now I'm employed again.

I'm at 40. New personal best for me. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you only watch one TV show a week. (Lost of course...)

1964375 Thanks, Michelle! I hate starting a book and dropping it in the middle- especially since I'm trying to read 50 by December.

It's starting to pick up a bit, but man... did you struggle with Lord Henry's constant ramblings?

1964375 Book #16 done...

Essex, Karen: Leonardo's Swans

... on #17, but it's kind of slow going...

... has anybody else had difficulty with Wilde's writing style in Dorian? I breezed thru "The Importance of Being Ernest", but this has been, well, DULL! I wouldn't finish it, but I'm still trying to push myself thru it so I can make my 50 by December.
