:) Actually, old books. My sister gave her a copy of My Antonia by Willa Cather as her welcome home.
My dad, predictably, gave every single one of us Anticancer by David Servan-Schreiber, and it's actually really interesting, but my mom is enjoying the Willa Cather.
That's wonderful, Taejas! I'm so glad to hear that it was caught in time for treatment to be successful. That's fantastic news! :D
I've been holding my breath (I don't like to talk about it much), but my mom's radiation treatments are finally done!
We found out about the cancer right before summer, but surgery and post-surgery treatments are all successful. She's back home, with all things looking good. She's been going for nicely long walks and even working out in the mornings! :) Nothing but healing from this point out.
Becky, I wrote about my blog in the Any Good Websites topic. But since you asked, it is

Warning: Dirty, dirty language. Especially in this most recent post!
Just passed my 50-books-in-a-year self challenge. I never thought I'd be able to do it, although I haven't done much else but read this year, have I! ; )Had to up my challenge to 75... funny the TBR doesn't seem to be getting any shorter. I wonder why that is...
OK, I'm totally bursting with good news. I just had an author of a book I reviewed on my blog leave a comment!!!! He liked what I wrote!
I'm so happy, I can barely stand it!
Thanks, everyone!I'm sorry, Hayes. My family generally doesn't know what to buy for me except for books! Lucky me! :-)
April had a birthday on the 5th. She posted it on TNBBC, but I don't think we knew about it over here. :-)
Happy B-day JG! Poor Hayes. My family luckily loves books on my mom's side, so I know I'll always gets a few for Christmas/birthday (they're five days apart for me).
Happy Birthday, JG!! Lucky you... Books!!
I keep dropping hints to my (Italian) family, but apparently books don't count as birthday presents *sigh*
My birthday was Saturday. I still just love my birthday. It's like my own little private holiday! Give me a few more years and I'm sure I'll change my mind. :-)I received as gifts:
What the Mouse Found (A signed copy, and my hubby didn't realize it!)
Trader (Newford Book 7)
and my own copy of A Northern Light
We went out of town, and I had to look hard to find a bookstore, but I eventually found an antique store that had tons of books for sale and got:
The Italian Secretary and
Animal Dreams.
I'll see the rest of my family next weekend, so I may rack up a few more birthday books! :-)
Taejas - I'm not 100% sure, but it will hopefully involve powerpoints, podcasting, and maybe something with Finale to create music. The teachers I think are coming up with the projects. I think podcasting is really cool and easy, even with younger kids.
Out of curiosity, Kristen, what sort of stuff will you be doing technology-wise with your younger grade kids? I'm always looking for cool activities, as the tech savvy of 6th graders in certain ways totally outstrips mine and in others is far far behind....
Oh, minor good news (that makes me very happy!) my new computer came in! First purchase over $100 I've made in about 3 years... well, excepting car repairs, groceries....
Congrats April! :)More good news - been at ALA two days now and I've found some awesome ARC copies..
Catching Fire
Shiver
Ballad
Bran Hambric
Hush, Hush
Hazel
And tons more! It sucks having to carry those around. I think my shoulders will be sore all week. One more day I'm going. So many books.....
I posted awhile back about quitting a job. Well, I just got hired at a new part time job. However, the bad news is that the store I got hired at is next door to Borders and my will power is at slim to none.
Lol. I was just really surprised. I was like oh no, not another interview. Every one said check it out, that way I never second guess what the job was all about. At least both jobs offer bennies, period and an actual salary - not hourly pay. :)I'll let you guys know how it goes after Tuesday. I personally hope I don't like it or they don't like me so I don't have to choose!
(PS. I know those are unrealistic salaries, but this is fantasy, right? And we can hope you'd get your worth, although my figures are on the low end!)
Maybe there will be a bid-war over you! A) "We will offer you $500,000/year, with full medical, dental, and vision coverage, your own parking spot and a coffee-maker!"
B) "WE will offer you $600,000 with all the bennies, a parking spot, and a coffee maker (Esther, say hello) as well as your own corner office!"
A) "Well WE will offer $650,000 with all the bennies, the parking spot, the coffee maker (now with Joan), your own corner office, and a puppy!!"
*envisions* :D
OMG you guys... I just got an email for an interview for another job. I think I'll at least go and check it out. I'm sort of in love with the job I signed papers for, but the curious part of me can't settle just rejecting this other job flat out. Gah! So there I go.. Tuesday I'll be in another interview. Is my summer going to get any nuttier?
Thanks guys! I'm so exhausted from driving and calling every single member of my family. Now I'm going back tomorrow morning and then ALA all weekend.. I may be going to bed really early the rest of this week!
