83445 Thanks so much Otis! I'm glad to hear that it wasn't deliberately designed that way.

1 Whoa. I hadn't seen that that page had changed. I think it must have been a mistake. We'll fix it for monday.

1065804 Down is definitely more intuitive to me.

651844 Add my vote to the list! I had looked at the new page, but hadn't even noticed that they were listed across columns by popularity. I find it more than vaguely unnatural. It feels wrong to read across the columns that way.

732709 Yes, given that layout, I want to scan down a column before moving to the right.

83445 Ok. Don't you concur that our three opinions should clinch it then?! ;-)

Goodness, yes!

83445 Michael, I noticed the same thing and feel the same way about having the urge to read down vs. across.

834216 Is generally like the columnar form of the new popular shelf list, but I find it awkward to scan across the columns, in part because the lower boundary line of the boxes aren't aligned if the text of some, but not all, entries in a row take up more than one line.

You can see it in the very first line, but the confusion is even more striking toward the bottom of the page.

I do find it vaguely unnatural to scan across rather than down. I keep expecting the next largest to be below and not to the right. Would it be better if the order were down rather than across?
