1639357 When I was there it was IBM. Times sure have changed. (not)

1144499 In Austin it's Dell.

message 86: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Oh, are they the new up&coming leaders? It's hard to tell when you're immersed in the BS MS influence up here.

message 85: by Larry (new)

1144499 No, Sherrie. Dell.

message 84: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Little minature ones. And the bats have to wear microsoft t-shirts.

message 83: by Heidi (new)

1002888 Chiropteria! :)

message 82: by Larry (new)

1144499 The bats ride Segways now?

289556 Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!! Segways Bat Tour!!!

*snort snort*

message 80: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Oh no! They've incorporated Segways into the Bat Tour. What is this world coming to?

289556 Yes, as long as you see them from above, on the bridge. From below, you risk getting fertilized. :)

Ain't it wonderful to see?

289556 I've seen them, Larry!

1144499 Here, check it out. It's amazing!

1639357 No I didn't, but I heard a little about them. Don't they fly in huge ... uh, flocks (is that right?). My friend said they come out of the caves in dozens & dozens. That would be incredible to watch.

I like bats.

Edit: maybe not caves... I don't remember where she said they come out of.

message 74: by Larry (new)

1144499 Did you ever see the bats in Austin, Sherrie?

message 73: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 I just read an article that talks about building bat houses to keep the bad insect population down in your yard. It was pretty cool. No skeeters, maybe even wasps (she said hopefully), and you can use their poop in the garden! We have a little family of brown bats underneath our deck and I love listening to them come out at night.

1002888 Your plants won't die, Sally! They can't!

message 71: by Larry (new)

1144499 That won't happen -- unless you go away for a couple of weeks and don't get someone to water for you.

message 70: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 Oh, you know I want to brag about it all I can once things start growing.

If everything dies and I fail, however, I'll be deleting this whole thread.

message 69: by Larry (new)

1144499 I want to see it, too.

Guano = ick."

You don't have to do it, Sally. I just know it would be cool to keep up with your garden and guessing that others might feel the same way about it.

747169 I've been thinking about going over to my friend's stable and bagging some manure.

message 66: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 OK Heidi! Will do. :D

Guano = ick.

message 65: by BunWat (new)

747169 Wear a respirator while guano bagging.

message 64: by Heidi (new)

1002888 Sally, your garden looks great! You'll have to post update pics so we can see the progress as your plants grow and start producing. :)

RA, guano. Ew.

message 63: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 We have bats that live under our cedar in the summer. Apparently their poop is highly sought after by gardeners. Maybe I'll bag the poop.

1144499 The Manure Chronicles

The chickens had a glut of droppings — manure — and I had a new vegetable garden that needed fertilizing. I was hoping we could come to terms.

message 61: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Cool, thanks!

message 59: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Nope, got my dark sunglasses on at night. Cause they look dern cool.

message 58: by Larry (new)

1144499 Right there where I'm pointing. Can't ya see?

message 57: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Where?

message 56: by Larry (new)

1144499 You can grow jalopenos there.

message 55: by Cosmic Sher (new)

1639357 Sal, I was thinking of doing the 'salsa garden' thing as well and I like cilantro in my salsa. What about the jalepenos, though? Do we not grow them here? Not being a green thumb, maybe I need to stick to peas.

message 54: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 I really hope so. It's also nice for the newly-installed gardeners to get a day of rest.

message 53: by Larry (new)

1144499 It's the best thing for newly-installed plants!

message 52: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 It rained and rained last night, and it's still all misty and grey outside now. Things look ok, if not a bit peaked and wilty. Normally we have such warm sunshine!

message 51: by Larry (new)

1144499 It sure does.

289556 Good job, Sally! It looks great!

message 49: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 Photobucket

We finished the rock ground cover about 2 hours later. phew!

744602 Sally, wow, you sure accomplished alot!

1668388 Woot woot!

message 46: by Larry (new)

1144499 Very nice looking garden, Sally. I am envious! I miss gardening so much.

message 45: by BunWat (new)

747169 Lotsa work went into that!

289556 Wonderful, Sally! I love the square design.

message 43: by RandomAnthony (new)

721021 Looks great!

message 42: by BunWat (new)

747169 Woot!

message 41: by Sally , masters master(er) (new)

966475 garden

message 40: by Lori (new)

744602 Sarah, I once grew mint in my garden. Never again! Nor oregano. Took me years to finally clear out what turned out to be quite invasive and choking. I was so fed up it took me a few years to even want them again. Now they are in pots. Phew!

Bun - guess what I found taking over my compost? Yep. My personal nemesis. Bindweed. Kill! Kill! Kill! It defies all notion of death.

Sally, have fun with your garden!

message 39: by BunWat (new)

747169 Also I completely agree with those who say that cilantro tastes like soap. I guess I got the gene.
