2083653 I am almost done reading it.
I bought it early this morning and I'm really really enjoying it so far!

I will not release any spoilers...nor do I recommend that other members post any incase readers have not finished with the book.

But Im curious as to who is reading it?
Who is planning to read it very soon?
Those who have read it/are reading it- isn't it FANTASTIC?

327471 I'm reading it right now.. although my final for my college class is getting in the way. I haven't gotten past the first chapter but I'm already loving it.

message 3: by Sara (new)

2083653 Oh yes! I think its classic percy jackson ( the wit, the action, the "omg-whats-that") but ten times more suspenseful/fun/ and just great in other areas I wont mention in fear of spoilers.

message 4: by Sara (new)

2083653 But yes! finals get in the way ( i just finished my classes... but i have two courses Im taking in summer school) I wish I could curse english and history. I love both, really. But seeing as how I have been studying it for three years now...I'm getting very sick of it.

Good luck on your final and with reading Kristen!

1104539 I have read the first and my daughter got Last Olympian today (with a 30% off coupon). Do I need to read all the other ones before I read Last Olympian?

Hmmm yes, I would highly recommend it.
I mean, he puts in a lot of sentences which remind people of the past series but I don't think the book can be as appreciated or as enjoyed if the first books aren't read first. The first four are super short anyway, shouldn't take awhile.
So that is my suggestion anyway =) Happy reading!

898662 I'll be reading it today. My husband is a huge fan of the series, too, so he bought it early yesterday morning. Since I wasn't about to buy two, he read a big chunk of it yesterday and I get it today...since he's at work : ) I'm not going to complain, since this is the series that really got him reading again!

Enjoy the reading- hope your husband is satisfied with the conclusion too!

Oh yes, for sure, for sure. I agree with you, Angie.
I mentioned that in the beginning too.
No worries, I will not type anything that remotely qualifies as a spoiler unless I flag it =)

327471 From the author note at the end, it sounds like he is going to be writing a spin off series, but maybe that's just my brain really wanting him to.

There are five books total in the series. He is planning another series set in the same world but that is just in early planning stages. Yep, there is a movie! I'm excited.

I never read he said percy wont be in it.
I think Percy's story is told, so he wont have a main role at all. (Which I rather, I dont like when a favourite character's story is pushed to far just for the sake of continuing) Anyway, favourite characters ARE to reappear. He said so on his site. In the contact section.

2083653 To all who are interested in second series,
This was also listed by Rick Riordan (on his blog)

"As I've been announcing on tour however, the end is not really the end. When you read the conclusion of The Last Olympian, you will probably get that sense. The more I write about Camp Half-Blood, the more I realize how much there is to tell -- gods and monsters I've never discussed, the life at camp (which Percy hardly ever gets to experience) and so many other characters who don't get their moment in the spotlight. In late 2010, I will be launching the second Camp Half-Blood series. I've already gotten a flood of emails from fans pleading for details, but I can't tell you much yet. It will feature a new generation of demigods, ready to take on a new prophecy. You may see Percy, Annabeth and the rest of the gang from the first series, but they will not be the main characters. Again, read the ending of the Last Olympian and you will get some clues what I mean. I'm afraid the rest of the details are secret for now -- no character names, no titles, no hints. Sorry! I will probably post more on my website in the fall."

message 33: by Jenn (new)

2373073 If you check out IMDB they've posted the cast for The Lightning Thief movie which should be coming out next February. :)

message 34: by Nicole (new)

886144 ditto!! :D

664635 This book was a good ending to the series. Unfortunately, unlike most series like these where I find myself wanting more, I didn't really feel that way on this one.

Here's the beginning of my review on it:

This being the 5th and last book in the series, Riordan has to tie up a lot of loose ends, but does an excellent job of it. There are some new tricks that Percy and his crew pick up, which make the elements of magic throughout the book seem to come alive in ways that the previous books don’t exhibit. Percy is stronger, smarter and faster, but his weaknesses remain largely the same, keeping him human. The blossoming love relationships that show up in this book also give it a few more layers of conflict that the predecessors.

906848 Wow, I loved this book so much!! I felt that this was a great ending for the series. I fell in love with the series just a year or two ago when I finished The Lightning Thief, so I hoped that the rest of the series would just be as good. I had pretty high expectations for The Last Olympian, and they were all pretty much fulfilled.

message 38: by Nicole (new)

2047735 Do not read this if you have not read the last book in the series! SPOILERS: I just finished the last book, and was a little dissapointed. I was very mad that Percy didn't end up being the hero of the prophecy! They built it up for it to be him, and then, the battle was over! I was also upset that the whole book was spent around the battle and them defending New York. I had thought, they could not possibly make this the whole book, and then they did. Personally, I just thought the first books in the series were better.

1512832 aaaah!! it was soo good!! but that Flying Pig was kinda random..

message 40: by Julianna (new)

155419 My daughter was not a reader and this book hooked her. She sprinted through the whole series.
Little higher praise than that.

i thought it was cool that percy didn't end up being the hero ... it was very unexpected; i never would have guessed. it made sense, though. :] i loved the book, it was my fave of the series.
