I'm currenly reading 5 different books, cant seem to stick to just one AND then I have a double stacked pile of books on my to read list!Eeek!
Trying to stick to Apprentice Assassin, started the book before I saw this is the July read. At least I would have finished it by then :)
Robin wrote: "I finished Dragonflight and starting Tigana and Curse of the Mistwraiths"
Robin - I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on Tigana. It's quite a book. We had a great discussion on it in the SciFi/Fantasy group which really added to my enjoyed of the book. However, it is certainly not a fun, lighthearted adventure story. It's a thoughtful drama with an ending but not your traditional "happy" / all things resolved one.
I'm reading The Master of Whitestorm by Janny Wurts right now. It's really sucked me in, but I can't get enough time to read it. Too many other things going on in my life - like work. <sigh> It's a good thing to have, but it really interferes with my personal life sometimes...
The last couple books that I read I really didn;t like so I went ahead and started reading Dreamcatcher by stephen King agaon. It's a classic. and I rather reread a classic rather than gettng burned. I dount that I will finish it in may though. Actually as I look at the calendar it;s impossible. But after thism I intend to read Howl's moving castle and then a book called Erased. I hope those two are worth the read.
P.S. check out my book website at http://www.freewebs.com/lelue/
I finished Sabriel by Garth Nix and Singularity Sky by Charles Stross. I really enjoyed both of them. Now I'm reading The Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts.
Sierra wrote: "I'm reading the entire Harry Potter series backwards. I'm racing my friend. "
That's gotta be really weird, Sierra. I just finished re-reading the series (forwards, in my case) this week.
p.s.--Hi!
well, after reading so much about it, I decided I had to order Tigana. I should get it next week and I'm looking forward to reading it! :)
Robin wrote: "So glad to hear you say this Chris - I picked it up from the library but so far have read a few others and it is just sitting there - you give me a good reason to pick it up. ..."
After that great first 200 pages or so, it does bog down a little thru the middle. Not bad, but there are times I wished it would just start moving again. I have about 100 pages left though, and at this point it's starting to come together very well....
Finished with Cherryh's Conspirator. That was fast. I can never make her stuff last! Addiction? And another grim tome for the neighborhood book club. Chipping by increments. Have to be done Thursday.
Tigana's on the writing desk, a reread is safe, there, it won't get compulsive. I usually keep one at hand, for dull moments between kicking and screaming. Or characters who just ought to be doing the same. grin.
I'll want something fun, after this one.

So glad to hear you say this Chris - I picked it up from the library but so far have read a few others and it is just sitting there - you give me a good reason to pick it up.
I am behind so I just wrapped up the Mistborn books (awesome) and am starting on Elantris. Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll go back and read the discussion on the first Mistborn book now.
Ugh! I got Tarzan for my birthday and started it right away, even though I'm in the middle of a whole stack and then have shelves and shelves of books that have been waiting patiently. Ah, well...
So far so good on Tarzan, at least, it's kind of fun.
Finished To Say Nothing of the Dog and then Forever Odd (sequel to Odd Thomas). Now reading T. Pratchett's Moving Pictures. It's hilarious!
Shannon wrote: "Right now, I'm reading Brisingr(other things keep preempting it, but I need to finish), The Sorcerer of the North Book Five..."
I love the Ranger's Apprentice series. I'm waiting for this one to come out in paperback, but it's a hard wait. I'm jealous, now. :>
John wrote: " Tigana, eh? Might have to give this one a look."
Definitely, John. You should like it....
Shannon wrote: "Ooh! Your review just tipped the balance, Chris. I'm adding it to my queue..."Ooo....glad I could be of service...
Shannon wrote: "Ooh! Your review just tipped the balance, Chris. I'm adding it to my queue.
You'll enjoy Tigana. I'm not the biggest epic fantasy fan but I've really enjoyed this book. Slow start for me but now I'm truly impressed.
Ooh! Your review just tipped the balance, Chris. I'm adding it to my queue.Right now, I'm reading Brisingr(other things keep preempting it, but I need to finish), The Sorcerer in the North, The Archivist A Novel (not a fantasy book - it's for my real-life book club). Just finished The Palace of Illusions A Novel and Neverwhere A Novel, of course.
Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay.
I've seen it kicking around here as a recomendation, and it was finally chosen in the Sci/Fi-Fantasy Group. I am LOVING this book. It reminds me at times of Mistborn and others of The Name of the Wind, with a flavoring from Mario Puzo (The Godfather; The Family) thrown in.
Fans of truly epic fantasy should love this, and it's self contained, so you won't be committing to a 156 volume series......
I just read The Name of the Wind last week...I LOVED it! I cruised right through the entire book, one of my favorites. I hope you guys start enjoying it more!
I also read Sabriel last week...loved it as well. I am really excited to finish off the trilogy.
I have all the Harry Potter books on CD so that I can't be tempted to re-read them over and over again when I should be reading things I haven't read before. Hehe.
Elise wrote: "I just finished The Name of the Wind last night. It was very good, I just thought it was a bit over hyped by all the glowing reviews on it. The ending was pretty creepy. Looking forwa..."
I got bogged down in The Name of the Wind and haven't picked it up in weeks, I really need to get back to it. I love the Abhorsen Trilogy, hope you enjoy it.
Meanwhile I'm re-reading Harry Potter for the billionth time. Just starting the sixth book today, so almost there and then I can focus on all my other books that I haven't actually read before, like The Name of the Wind, The Rings of Saturn, Anna Karenina, Savvy, etc, etc.
Amy wrote: "Megan wrote: "I am currently reading Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It's a YA Fantasy novel. So far so good!"Oh, I liked that one - I think there's a sequel to be published this fall."
I saw that! I've put it on my TBR. :)
Megan wrote: "I am currently reading Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It's a YA Fantasy novel. So far so good!"Oh, I liked that one - I think there's a sequel to be published this fall.
@Astra: I loved The Blade Itself and plan to read Before They Are Hanged next week. Last Argument of Kings is in the mail. I also sorely missed the maps and appreciated the fan cartographer.
Finished The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie and started Before They are Hanged.I don't see what all the hype around the book was about. I enjoyed reading it and the fact that I started to read book II immediately after the book I, instead of taking a break and reading at least one stand alone says a lot, but it is not outstanding. It is not brilliant, fantastic. It is just quite good :)
One serious flaw, is a missing map. I think I have seen somewhere on Joe's blog or his website that he doesn't like maps and thinks it is unnecessary but I disagree and thanks to a The First Law's fan Scubamarco, who created 2 wonderful maps, I can enjoy the books a lot more.
I'm really not making much progress on InkHeart which I've actually been reading on and off now for a few months. I picked up DragonFlight and will start reading that in a few days.
Elise wrote: "I just finished The Name of the Wind last night. It was very good, I just thought it was a bit over hyped by all the glowing reviews on it..."
I enjoyed this book - but was not pleased with the ending. I wish he would have broken it up along more "completed" lines - like one as a child (maybe up to where he goes to school. THen one at school, and start a new book after he leaves etc.
Libby wrote: "Hey Robin - yes, I'd start with Dead Until Dark. ..."
Cool,
Thanks Libby I'll start there.
I just finished The Name of the Wind last night. It was very good, I just thought it was a bit over hyped by all the glowing reviews on it. The ending was pretty creepy. Looking forward to what's next for Kvothe. Now, I'm reading Sabriel by Garth Nix.
Just finished The Ghost Brigades which was very good. Now, I'm reading an ebook version of Jane Eyre prior to reading The Eyre Affair.
My goal is to read through the Drizzt books by the end of June. Just about the finish The Dark Elf Trilogy, so I'm off to a good start. I'm really enjoying these, and can't believe I had never read them.
Hey Robin - yes, I'd start with Dead Until Dark. They are fun series with just enough romance and danger to keep you hooked. As with many series, they can get a bit repetitive so I'll read one, read some other books and then come back for the next. There is also an HBO show - True Blood - based on the books but it's quite a bit darker than the books.
Don't worry about being behind - I'm right there with you! I saw posts up for the June book and I was like WAIT I'm not even out of the May books!
Hey Libby,
Fun light reads are my favorites!! That's the real reason Michael writes to please me ;-p
I've not read any of the Sookie Stackhouse books - would you recommend the one you just mentioned or should I start with a different one?
I just finished Neverwhere...Ya I know I'm behind. I really enjoyed it. Need to write a review. Now on to Cloak of Magic!
My reading has been a little light on the fantasy side over the past couple of months but I just re-read Beauty A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast (one of my favorite books from childhood) and still love it. I hope to read: Empire of Ivory and The Warrior's Apprentice, but first I have to get through The Mysteries of Udolpho for a book club.
Sam wrote: "I am currently reading 'The Curse of Cjaholian' by Lois McMaster Bujold which has been a wonderful surprise for me. I think it is a wise, humane and entertaining book that on its surface might strike one as pedestrian Fantasy but has quite profound depths to it."Curse of Chalion is the best fantasy novel in the last decade. Everything you said and more. I reread it often.
JG wrote: "I never have a plan, but so far I've read Dead Until Dark. ..."
JG - the whole series is a pretty fun, light read. Great books to take on vacation. Enjoy!
Robin wrote: "Sam wrote: "Hello all, I am a new member here. Love so many of the books already listed here and many that I don't know sound great. I am currently reading 'The Curse of Cjaholian' by Lois McMa..."
You're both in for a very fine read. Bujold always delivers.

Hey Sam welcome....
I was intriguqed by what you said about "
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold. This is new to me and I have addeded it to my TBR pile.
Elise wrote: "I'm a couple hundred pages away from finishing The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm plodding along with it right now, but still enjoying it for the most part."
Glad you are liking it Elise...I found it an enjoyable read as well - but I must say that I was disappointed in the ending. I'm interested to hear your "take on it" once you get there.
Libby wrote: "Robin wrote: "I'm reading:
Redwall. Isn't Redwall a great book! So imaginative! It is one of my favorite YA series."
Yes it is Libby! I just finished it yesterday and will write a full review soon but I loved it. Very fun read.
