I got bogged down in The Name of the Wind and haven't picked it up in weeks, I really need to get back to it. I love the Abhorsen Trilogy, hope you enjoy it.

Meanwhile I'm re-reading Harry Potter for the billionth time. Just starting the sixth book today, so almost there and then I can focus on all my other books that I haven't actually read before, like The Name of the Wind, The Rings of Saturn, Anna Karenina, Savvy, etc, etc.

1988101 I have all the Harry Potter books on CD so that I can't be tempted to re-read them over and over again when I should be reading things I haven't read before. Hehe.

1637878 I just read The Name of the Wind last week...I LOVED it! I cruised right through the entire book, one of my favorites. I hope you guys start enjoying it more!

I also read Sabriel last week...loved it as well. I am really excited to finish off the trilogy.

1956959 Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay.

I've seen it kicking around here as a recomendation, and it was finally chosen in the Sci/Fi-Fantasy Group. I am LOVING this book. It reminds me at times of Mistborn and others of The Name of the Wind, with a flavoring from Mario Puzo (The Godfather; The Family) thrown in.

Fans of truly epic fantasy should love this, and it's self contained, so you won't be committing to a 156 volume series......

420425 Ooh! Your review just tipped the balance, Chris. I'm adding it to my queue.

Right now, I'm reading Brisingr(other things keep preempting it, but I need to finish), The Sorcerer in the North, The Archivist A Novel (not a fantasy book - it's for my real-life book club). Just finished The Palace of Illusions A Novel and Neverwhere A Novel, of course.

You'll enjoy Tigana. I'm not the biggest epic fantasy fan but I've really enjoyed this book. Slow start for me but now I'm truly impressed.

1988101 Tigana, eh? Might have to give this one a look.

I love the Ranger's Apprentice series. I'm waiting for this one to come out in paperback, but it's a hard wait. I'm jealous, now. :>

1632550 Finished To Say Nothing of the Dog and then Forever Odd (sequel to Odd Thomas). Now reading T. Pratchett's Moving Pictures. It's hilarious!

1369783 Ugh! I got Tarzan for my birthday and started it right away, even though I'm in the middle of a whole stack and then have shelves and shelves of books that have been waiting patiently. Ah, well...
So far so good on Tarzan, at least, it's kind of fun.

657502 I am behind so I just wrapped up the Mistborn books (awesome) and am starting on Elantris. Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll go back and read the discussion on the first Mistborn book now.

2110829 I'm reading the entire Harry Potter series backwards. I'm racing my friend.

So glad to hear you say this Chris - I picked it up from the library but so far have read a few others and it is just sitting there - you give me a good reason to pick it up.

message 66: by Robin (new)

1572236 I'm 75 pages into Dragonflight - will finish it up and then look into Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay.

1937942 Finished with Cherryh's Conspirator. That was fast. I can never make her stuff last! Addiction?

And another grim tome for the neighborhood book club. Chipping by increments. Have to be done Thursday.

Tigana's on the writing desk, a reread is safe, there, it won't get compulsive. I usually keep one at hand, for dull moments between kicking and screaming. Or characters who just ought to be doing the same. grin.

I'll want something fun, after this one.

After that great first 200 pages or so, it does bog down a little thru the middle. Not bad, but there are times I wished it would just start moving again. I have about 100 pages left though, and at this point it's starting to come together very well....

message 69: by Allison (new)

1637878 well, after reading so much about it, I decided I had to order Tigana. I should get it next week and I'm looking forward to reading it! :)

message 70: by Barbm1020 (new)

1632550 It sounds like a Great Work at 600+ pages. Guess I will put it on my list but it won't be soon!

That's gotta be really weird, Sierra. I just finished re-reading the series (forwards, in my case) this week.
p.s.--Hi!

1805316 I finished Sabriel by Garth Nix and Singularity Sky by Charles Stross. I really enjoyed both of them.

Now I'm reading The Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts.

Nophoto-u-25x33 The last couple books that I read I really didn;t like so I went ahead and started reading Dreamcatcher by stephen King agaon. It's a classic. and I rather reread a classic rather than gettng burned. I dount that I will finish it in may though. Actually as I look at the calendar it;s impossible. But after thism I intend to read Howl's moving castle and then a book called Erased. I hope those two are worth the read.

P.S. check out my book website at http://www.freewebs.com/lelue/

695116 I'm reading The Master of Whitestorm by Janny Wurts right now. It's really sucked me in, but I can't get enough time to read it. Too many other things going on in my life - like work. <sigh> It's a good thing to have, but it really interferes with my personal life sometimes...

message 75: by Robin (new)

1572236 I finished Dragonflight and starting Tigana and Curse of the Mistwraiths

Robin - I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on Tigana. It's quite a book. We had a great discussion on it in the SciFi/Fantasy group which really added to my enjoyed of the book. However, it is certainly not a fun, lighthearted adventure story. It's a thoughtful drama with an ending but not your traditional "happy" / all things resolved one.

1667536 I'm currenly reading 5 different books, cant seem to stick to just one AND then I have a double stacked pile of books on my to read list!Eeek!

Trying to stick to Apprentice Assassin, started the book before I saw this is the July read. At least I would have finished it by then :)
