message 2: by Isma (new)

message 3: by Najibah (new)

1169882 Yes Isma, that's the irony of it :)

message 5: by Najibah (new)

Saya pun sedang mencari jawapan.

message 6: by Wan (new)

2291095 sudah jadi 3malaysia, bukan lagi 1

1260846 Yalah.

message 8: by Saniah (new)

2252817 Betullah tu Najibah.

TQ for mentioning this. Just the other day I was discussing with my hubby regarding the spiritual essence of racial harmony. The accent is on "spiritual". If it is there, there is no need to howler multitudes of slogans. The fact that to date the power that be is still shouting slogans every National Day etc, it isn't there. I came across this view while doing reserch many years ago while still in school during a preparation for an speech contest- part of the National Day celeberation activity. What would be your opinion? If you agree, how do you think racial harmony may be taken to a spiritual level?

Masaalahnya ...ingin tahu apa? Some people love to know for the sake of knowledge itself. Some as a means to generate income.....all depends on your needs in life. We may be able to steer one's needs to a degree say, through some means of indoctrination by parents and teachers. In the end he makes his own selection.

Hi all! Newly migrated to GoodReads from GuruLib and newly joined this group.

1334243 Hi David! Welcome, make yourself at home :D We've got a good bunch here, altho it's been kinda quiet since Ramadhan (mayhaps people are still lethargic from all that Raya spread teeheehee)

Puan Hamizao, it's a difficult question to answer, tilting towards philosophical, and I still cannot answer it till today - I think the higher up someone is on the social ladder, the multiracial relations would be somewhat different in their eyes.

To be honest, I grew up in almost all-Malay community, never had Chinese and Indian friends (except exchanging a few lines of casual conversation at their shops or clinics) until I attend university. I do have Chinese teachers teaching music and English in primary, but the relationship was not that deep for me to make useful evaluation.

But I believe this matter is worth immersing our head into, because multiraciality and all the consequences of it's long history in Malaysia is a reality that everyone have to live by (like it or not).

message 17: by Najibah (new)

1169882 Hello David! Hope your voice as the first Chinese friend in GR (Malaysian nevertheless) will attract the others who are so quiet so far. Whenever there's only Malay around and no other ethnics, I always feel detached from Malaysian reality :)

message 18: by David (new)

2800613 I think ppl are quiet cos they just use this for collection aje, just add book, then forget about it. I just wan a place where I can search for what books I have - I bought books that I already owned a few times oredi >.<

message 19: by Kataklicik (new)

1334243 You and me both, bro! :D

message 20: by Najibah (new)

1169882 I thought they wanted to connect with other book-lovers from Malaysia also :D

BTW, have anyone tried LibraryThing? It's more organized and business-looking, have the feel of real library system, with some cost after we registered more than 200 books.

message 21: by Khairul H., I Know Where You Live (new)

506469 And that's why I never joined LibraryThing. It's not free. I was so happy when I found out about Goodreads from another forum. It's exactly what I wanted from an online book cataloging site.

message 22: by Najmuddin, Tok Mudin (new)

54854 Yeah, I think Goodreads is the best at the moment. Better than Shelfari and LibraryThing.

message 23: by David (new)

2800613 LibraryThing has a lot of features though, but me too, din bother joining cos of the 200-book limit for free users.

This post compares a couple of them:

http://librarytwopointzero.blogspot.com/...

May be a bit old, but some of it is still true. Look at the comments, there's a guy from LibraryThing there kinda of like "advertising" why LibraryThing is better (but his points are valid justification for them charging users I guess).

2800613 Yea, if you check to to-read, I have way too many books to read... I must stop visiting bookstores and actually read books :D I'm scared to lend books to others cos there one time I did and my friend practically split coffee onto it... I never lent that fella another book ever since.
