My birthday is in May! On May 18th, I turn the big 3-0! I'm not so pleased about transitioning into "middle age", but they do say that 30 is the new 20!

message 6: by Erin (new)

1372770 And happy birthday to my fellow Tauruses!

message 7: by Sherry, Doyenne (last edited May 04, 2009 10:17AM) (new)

193297 Well, you're just a baby, Erin! Isn't May a great month to have for a birthday? I love it. (Maybe that's "Tauri"?) I'm also hoping 60 is the new forty.

I think 60 SHOULD be the new 40! (My mother is certainly acting like it is - she'll reach that milestone in two years!)

I agree, I think May is THE BEST MONTH! for birthdays - not too cool, not too hot. I'm planning on going to a Nationals ball game on the 17th with my parents and my husband (and maybe my sistaer and her husband), and then afterwards we can go for a birthday dinner somewhere they have a patio. Or maybe we can have a cookout!

Do you have anything fun planned?

message 9: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

193297 Not this year. Last year I had a barn-burner of a 60th. People came from all over. I only have parties every ten years.

message 10: by MAP (new)

457755 Wow! Some of my favorite Constant Readers are born in May!
Happy birthday, in advance, Dottie, Anne, Sherry, and Erin.

1990904 Hello everyone. I am new to Constant Reader and I must say this is an excellent group. My birthday is coming up - May 14. I shall be older than dirt but still younger than the universe. Happy Birthday to all my fellow May babies!

340071 Dottie, Proustian buddy, happy birthday!

message 22: by Dottie (new)

336421 Thank you all for the greetings.

I'm going to have to explore this artist, Ruth. You always come up with such fantastic works to post for our birthdays.
Barb, I've been thinking about Proust lately as his name comes up in the book I'm currently reading. In fact, both Proust and much on Anna Karenina -- which of course thanks to your encouragement I finally read recently.

message 30: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

193297 What a wonderful way to wake up to my 61st birthday! Thanks everyone. A while back Lily wanted to know if I was going to have another birthday party like the last one. She really had a good time. I told that was a once in a decade thing. I hope I'm here nine years from now to celebrate my 70th with you all, and so on and so on.....

message 31: by Capitu (new)

message 35: by Lynn (new)

334827 Happy Birthday, Sherry! I hope you had a great day and that the coming year is a wonderful one.

Lynn

message 36: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

193297 Thanks, Robert and Lynn. I had a lazy birthday yesterday, but we went to one of my favorite restaurants last night, Limone's. You remember, Lynn, we went there for one of our meals at the Asheville convention. I ate way too much. I should have skipped the churros and hot chocolate, but I was being decadent.

message 37: by Sheila (new)

495963 Aw decadence is acceptable at times like birthdays, gald you had a great day

message 38: by Dottie (last edited May 18, 2009 09:30AM) (new)

336421 Sherry -- one cannot pass churros and chocolate on one's birthday. there must be a written rule to that effect somewhere.

Thank you Robert for the birthday wishes. I had a long, and using Sherry's measure, an extremely decadent brunch including caramel cheesecake and accompanied throughout with live jazz music. We followed that up with an afternoon of strolling about town poking into shops and I had time for reading in the evening. A perfect kind of birthday/Mother's Day celebration though this year the emphasis was on the birthday as neither daughter could get away to join us and it was the truly BIG birthday -- Medicare and all that. Oh my!

message 39: by Lynn (new)

334827 Oh, I loved Limone's, Sherry. My decadent indulgence would have been the bread pudding. I can think of only a couple of other desserts I've ever had that can top that.

message 40: by Sherry, Doyenne (last edited May 18, 2009 10:23AM) (new)

193297 Well, the churros and hot chocolate wouldn't have been quite so decadent if I hadn't started the whole meal off with a Margarita Caliente--described this way: Pepe Lopez Tequila, fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice, a hint of berry & habanero, hand shaken with a salt rim. Yum.

335756 Happy Birthday to all you May birthdays who had the temerity to be celebrating whilst I was away from computers. Hope each of your days (not sure about the grammar here) was great.

message 45: by Dottie (new)

336421 Thanks, Ricki -- look forward to hearing about your camping adventures in Poland soon.

message 46: by Erin (new)

1372770 Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! Ruth & Sherry, thanks for the pics, and thanks for adding me to the list, Jane - I feel like a true Constant Reader now!

I did have a happy birthday - the day before, my mom and sister came to visit and we went to a Washington Nationals game, and on my birthday my husband took me out for a delicious steak dinner and later we gorged ourselves on cupcakes I found at this new, delightful little cupcake shop down the street from my work!

I also treated myself to a few new books :) As if I don't already have enough books to read!
