My suggestions are:
1. The Inn At Eagle Point (Chesapeake Shores #1) by Sherryl Woods
3. Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery

I was prowling through the Romantic Writers of America (RWA) site looking at the books that have been nominated thus far in 2009 for Rita Awards. Most of the names of the nominees are the biggies of romantic fiction of whom we have heard and read regularly, but I did stumble across a few newbies whose names I did not recognize. Both of my nominees are newbies who are getting a lot of buzz. What a great time to sample these authors' books.
Witchling (Book 1, Sisters of the Moon) by Yasmine Galenorn
*The actual book nominated for the RITA is this year’s book , Dragon Wytch, Book 4, but I thought that it would be best to start with Witchling, Book 1.
From Publishers Weekly:
“(Witchling is) The first in an engrossing new series about conflict in the magic modern world—as told by the half-human, half-Faerie D'Artigo sisters—the latest from Galenorn (One Hex of a Wedding) is a whimsical reminder of fantasy's importance in everyday life.”
From Booklist:
“(In Witchling) Half human, half faerie, Camille and her two sisters act as Earthside operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency, a gig they feel is more a way of keeping them at a distance than any promotion. With the Faerie court in disarray and a new demon lord in the Subterranean Realms making a power play to rule the known worlds, the sisters find their shaky magic and their allies the only line of defense. An emerging voice in chick-lit fantasy and mystery, Galenorn, who also writes as India Ink, branches off into romantic territory in the first of her Sisters of the Moon series.”
The following are quotes from reviewers:
“WITCHLING definitely qualifies as a good book--one of the best of 2006. And if reading about Camille D'Artigo and her sisters' exploits doesn't get your blood pumping, well you'd better watch out because Menolly (one of the sisters) might want a snack.”
“It (Witchling) had romance and magic, with some paranormal thrills and adventure. Speaking of characters, it had quite the mix of characters including a baby gargoyle and a dragon.”
“I loved the story line and read the book in one day!”
"(Witchling is a) Wonderful book, perfect for almost anyone. Humor, romance, and action all compacted into an exciting and fascinating series. Just wish I hadn't devoured the last one. Patience is not one of my virtues."
"These books are a must read. I highly recommend them to anyone, so much fun and so creative. Very steamy, sexy and adventurous books."
My second nominee is:
Seducing Mr. Darcy by Gwyn Cready
From Amazon:
In the second hilarious and sexy novel from author Gwyn Cready, a divorcée suffering from "carnal deprivation" has a racy one-night stand with one of literature's most irresistible heroes -- and learns that you really can't judge a book by its cover.
Mr. Darcy just isn't (Phillippa) “Flip” Allison's (the heroine’s) style. She prefers novels with hot sex on the bathroom sink to the mannerly, high-tension longing of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. That is, until she pays a visit to Madame K, who promises a therapeutic massage with an opportunity to "Imagine Yourself in Your Favorite Book." Somehow, on the way to a sizzling sink-top session with a Venetian Adonis, Flip lands right in the middle of Regency England -- and dangerously close to handsome Mr. Darcy. So close, in fact, that she discovers a side of him even Jane Austen couldn't have imagined.
Waking from her massage, Flip is on top of the world and ready for her upcoming book club -- that is, until she notices a new scene in which Darcy and spunky heroine Lizzy Bennet are arguing over...Flip Allison? Her rapturous liaison with Darcy has had disastrous consequences for Austen's characters -- not to mention millions of Pride and Prejudice fans! Flip has twenty-four hours to put the story back on course, and Magnus Knightley, a sexy but imperious scholar whose brooding good looks and infuriating arrogance are decidedly Darcy-like, is the only one who can help. The only problem is, Flip can't keep her hands off him, either....
Some of the reviews that I found on different sites follow:
“I loved "Tumbling Through Time"(Gwyn Cready’s first book) but now I have to say I am a huge fan with "Seducing Mr. Darcy” (FYI--Cready’s two books are both stand alones). Gwyn's style is funny, contemporary and not to be missed. A great "anytime" read. Jane Austen would be proud and not prejudiced!”
“I am a huge Pride and Prejudice fan, so I was really looking forward to this book. I loved it."
“The male characters positively smolder and the spirit of Austen's gorgeous, dark and brooding men was definitely upheld (and infused with just the right amount of naughty/bad boy as well!!)”
“SEDUCING MR. DARCY is a fun satirizing of the zillion Jane Austen novels and movies of the last decade.”
Not sure, I'm already doing an Author of the Month in Novel Ladies. LOL Mortal Fear by Greg Iles
