I am reading

I just finished Uglies by Scott Westerfeld and was all ready to continue with Pretties, but I realized that I didn't have it. I thought I had bought the first two books in the series but had only bought the first one. So, I'm reading a Hamish Macbeth mystery by M.C. Beaton, A Highland Christmas. I always enjoy Hamish. I guess Pretties will have to wait.

I just started Cracked Up To Be; saw a lot of positive reviews, so thought I'd give it a shot. Has anyone here read it?
I read Such A Pretty Girl over the weekend, it was an easy read about a heavy topic, if that makes sense?

That's such a great series. I got to hang out with Maria for the weekend a few weeks ago. It was really nice picking her brain about the books and the characters (we mostly talked about the characters from the Glass series, though Valek certainly made an appearance or two...;p). You might as well ask for Fire Study, too, because you're going to fly through MS and want to keep on going...Did you end up entering to win the signed copy of Sea Glass? I can't recall.

I just finished Poison Study and LOVED it! I can't believe it's been buried in my tbr for a few months! I've already asked for Magic Study for Christmas.

Agreed Abundance is SO GOOD! Paper Towns is good too but not as much as Abundance. I am really looking forward to Will Grayson, Will Grayson by Green!

Looking for Alaska was the first book by Green that I've read. I intend to read more, but since I owned that one and had heard great thigns, I figured I'd start there. My friend Jenn said she liked Abundance more, too.

Misty, have you read An Abundance of Katherines by Green. Like you, I loved Looking for Alaska, but I loved An Abundance of Katherines even more. I want to read Green's latest, Paper Towns, in December.

Reading The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury.

I'm at the tail end of the The Van Alen Legacy and just begun listening to The City of Ember. I am going to begin Tempted probably today as soon as I finish up with Van Alen Legacy.
I've sped right through it so as soon as I get a chance to sit for a decent space of time, it'll be done. It's really hard to put down! The city of ember I still need some time to get into.

I don't think it was as creepy as the first and I think the first was a bit better, but this one was still pretty good.

I absolutely loved the Practical Magic film, but didn't really like the book. I also thought that Garden Spells and Practical Magic were extremely similar and Garden Spells was what I hoped the book would be like, alas, it wasn't...

Thanks for the feedback, Beth. I have the first Mysterious Benedict Society book, too, and want to get around to reading it in either December or January.

That's the thing, though.... I DIDN'T like Practical Magic (not that I remember much about it). I don't like witches/witchcraft. They totally freak me out. I can't even watch Hocus Pocus without getting the heebie-jeebies. I still hold my breath while passing cemeteries. *shudders*

BUT, this book isn't about witches/witchcraft, just... natural magic (where "natural" means "from nature"). It's a subtle difference, but in my mind, it's like day and night (good vs evil?). Perhaps it's the lack of heavy mascara and black clothing and spells and cauldrons...?

I'm REALLY REALLY enjoying this book. If I wasn't supposed to be packing (the hubby wants to leave in about an hour and a half for his parents' house for Thanksgiving), I'd be reading it!! (Not that I'm doing much packing right now...) :)

I think you'll like it, Sara. Have you seen the movie Practical Magic? If you liked it, you'll like this book. It was impossible for me not to compare the two. I really enjoyed the book.

Sara, I absolutely loved Garden Spells! It's seriously one of the best books I've read this year and it went on my all-time favorites list. I really hope you enjoy it.

I'm just started Garden Spells... Looks like it's not YA, but whatever. It's shelved as "magical realism" which makes me nervous. My first attempt at the genre didn't go very well... I finally just put down Like Water for Chocolate as it was SERIOUSLY depressing me...

No I read book 4 and so decided to go re-read the first three, which I truly should have done before I read the fourth book!

I am reading (actually listening to) Me, the Missing, and the Dead which so far is a quite interesting book. Nothing like I've ever read before. Hopefully the ending is better than everyone says...

I liked Things not Seen

I finally finished Things Not Seen. It took me way longer than I thought it would, though I must say I did quite like it.

Read Leviathan LOVED IT! So good but as a multi-book series I was prepared for it to leave me a lot of details I wanted to know and it delivered. The romance was SLOW.

"Book 3, tentatively titled Bitterblue and currently in progress, is a companion book to both Graceling and Fire and takes place in the seven kingdoms six years after Graceling. As you may have gathered, the protagonist is Bitterblue. Yes, Katsa, Po, and others from Graceling whom I'm not yet willing to name do appear in the book. :o) I don't know yet when it'll be coming out. That's all I can say about it at this point.

EDIT 3/9/09: If you notice on Amazon that Bitterblue is cancelled, don't worry! The Harcourt edition is cancelled, but only because the book has moved to Penguin. Once Bitterblue is written, it'll be published by the Penguin imprint Dial Books for Young Readers."
