Hi! I'm thinking of getting started on Haruki Murakami's books because I've heard so much about them. Which one would you recommend to start with?
I would say Kafka on The Shore. It's my favorite. The Pin Up Bird Chronicle is considered his masterpiece so a lot of people would chose that one. It's great but I found the characters in Kafka to be more interesting.Whatever you start with, expect to be confused and delighted at the same time.
27. DEARLY DEVOTED DEXTER by Jeff Lindsay28. DEXTER IN THE DARK by Jeff Lindsay
29. DANCE, DANCE, DANCE by Haruki Murakami
Yeah Marvin...kicking butt. I know you said you wanted to read the entire Murakami library this summer. How many do you have left? We missed you and Jeanne tonight. Ay, I am dreading reading 3 CUPS OF TEA even more after what the other ladies were saying about it tonight. Putting it off for as long as possible, then I'll probably pull an all-nighter reading it. Haha...hey, what can I say? DORIAN GRAY and LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA are calling my name right now!
I'm doing the same with TEA. Started but having trouble getting into it so I'm putting it off. I have five more Murakami novels to go. Seven if I include the short story collections. Probably just the novels. You and Katherine are making me want to re-read DORIAN GRAY! And CHOLERA is great although I slightly prefer 100 YEARS OF SOLITUDE. CHOLERA is certainly a more accessible read. Isn't there a cool parrot at the beginning or was that a different Marquez novel?

I had a hard time getting into that book myself but once it got past all of his roots and initial struggles and more into the actual foundation and work that he does it became really interesting and I was glad to have read it.
Well, thanks for that. Since its the current pick for our local book club, I am GOING to read it, no matter how bad it could be. That's why we join book clubs, right? To read things we maybe wouldn't pick ourselves...
Cranking em out! Go Marvin, go Marvin! Hope to finish Koontz's latest tonight and pick up LOST CITY OF Z tomorrow. Tell Jeanne I'll call her and let her know what Arriba says. I'll try to do that tomorrow too! Take care, gotta get some reading done. AND some Business Law homework -- boo!
Yeah, I did, but I haven't started it yet. Trying to finish up THE HERETIC'S DAUGHTER and an audiobook Kathryn and I are reading. Summer school ends tomorrow and I'm staying at my mom's until Sunday, so a month without homework means hopefully I'll get some extra reading time. I can't wait to leave tomorrow!
Mission Accomplished!
