629344 That's a really good question, but I think you want to try the Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Group for it; this one just just fantasy, so there aren't a lot of space battles. :-)

But, if you want to try something a little more on the fantasy side, you might like Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series. Some of them are sci-fi, some are fantasy, (and some of the later ones are not very good at all), but if you like Bujold and Moon, you might like them. My favorites are: The Heritage of Hastur, Thendara House, and Star of Danger (the first book in the series).

1766034 Thanks, Elizabeth. I was trying for the scifi and fantasy bookclub but guess I messed up. Thanks for the heads up and the recommendation. I will try them. Thanks!

695116 You might also like David Weber. He writes the Honor Harrington series that starts with On Basilisk Station. For the entire series & more info:

629344 Hi Jim, I'm not sure what had happened to the first post by Michele, but she mentioned she liked Weber's work as well. :-)

1766034 I'm sorry for the confusion. I deleted my first post because I didn't want people to feel pressured to answer questions about sci fi. I reposted to the scifi club. That said, just for the record, I need the recs for Sci-fi more because I read so much fantasy! Mmmm, fantasy. Anyway, thanks Jim for your comments. I like David Weber a lot. Best,
Michele

811687 We could turn this into a discussion of science fiction that reads like fantasy. I think Catherine Asaro's Schism Part One of Triad (and probably her other books) would fall into this category. It was definitely science fiction but had a real fantasy vibe going.

1573922 Have you tried the Valor series by Tanya Huff?

No, but I saw them listed the other day and found them intriguing. It's been a while since I read Tanya Huff. I read all her...werewolf books? I loved them, whatever they were, but maybe it is time to try these. Thanks so much for your recommendation.

1766034 Science fiction that reads like fantasy. Hmmmm. Very interesting... I'd say that Anathem by Neal Stephenson might qualify. A lot of Sherri Tepper, especially Grass and Shadow's End. The Iron Dragon's Daugher by Michael Swanwick. I can't think of anything else.

Of the converse, I think that Barbara Hambly's early work is fantasy that reads a little bit like science fiction. Remember how they are trying to stop the evil weirdness that is invading the world but instead of something truly evil it turns out to be a remnant of an earlier evolutionary period just doing what it was meant to do, grow and reproduce and try to survive? I loved those books...

629344 I've always thought Sherri Tepper was primarily a fantasy writer, even if she sets some of her fantasies on other planets. Maybe it's that my favorites are her fantasies...
