95738 Yes! Titles catch my eye more than the pictures, especially summer beach reads. I have often picked up a book because of the title and been very happily surprised by the book inside. I don't read synopsis either.

Kyra Davis' books come to mind. Now I am hooked on her little mystery novels. I cannot wait for her next one to come out in June.

Ashley, that's funny. My daughter just bought Firmin yesterday. It is a very clever design!

Nophoto-f-25x33 On that caught my eye is Firmin, it's so unique because the entire book has a bite mark out of it! I haven't read it yet, but it looks promising!

Nophoto-m-25x33 I've been attracted to thousands of books because of the cover:
First I'm a children's librarian and buy hundreds of books for my library each year. Lots of them have attractive covers.
As an adult I love almost any cover done by Chip Kidd

Favorites of mine include, Everything is Illuminated, Infinite Jest, Independence Day. [and that's just the "I" s.

Also The Art of Modern Rock, http://www.amazon.com/Art-Modern-Rock-Po...

Nophoto-f-25x33 I can't even lie, I picked up Twilight because of the cover. Once I got home it took me about five minutes to realize it was Young Adult, but as soon as I finished it I got back in my car to buy the next two. Even though I ended up not liking the series, the cover is definitely what brought me to it.

896643 I will pick up a book if I like the cover also, but I wont read it just for that reason.

1586349 I picked up Girls in Trucks because of the cover photo. Sadly, the photo didn't really "fit" the book inside. Girls in Trucks

1586349 Oooh, yes, it is beautiful! Was it as good as it looks?

779101 I sure have! The cover of Astrid & Veronika is beautiful.

That's cool! I don't read the synopsis in a series.

817196 Absolutely I have. When browsing the book store, just looking for something good and unexpected to read, it's sometimes one of the first things that draws me in. Some that immediately comes to mind are Life of Pi by Yann Martel, The Plot Against America by Phillip Roth, Love Me by Garrison Keillor, and Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell.

245923 Although the story is what matters most, I often consider the cover in buying books, especially for classics which are published by many publishers in various covers. For example, I find that Barnes & Noble Classics has the dullest, gloomiest, most uninteresting pictures in their covers. Compare, for instance, these two covers of The Age of Innocence.

From Barnes & Noble: The Age of Innocence

From Wordsworth: The Age of Innocence (Wordsworth Classics)

2242201 I;m the same as many of you, I have definitely picked up a book because of it's cover and read the synopsis, then if the synopsis was good I have read it. I did this last year when I discovered James Rollins. I liked the cover, not artistic or anything but it looked adventurous, read the synopsis, and was SOLD on the story. I'm really chuffed that I did as well because it turns out I love the author and am reading all of his other work.

1881469 Very rarely have I ever just picked up a book because of the cover art. I can't deny that it will help my decision, but the title, author (to a lesser extent), and book synopsis all factor in to my decision.

I've done it a couple of times though, and I find I'm usually disappointed. Occasionally the graphics on the front will be better than the book.

2129792 I LOVE the cover of Tree of SmokeTree of Smoke A Novel

but I keep picking it up and not grabbing it . . . looking at my shelf; I don't see too many there b/c of the cover.

2065325 There have been a few books that I can think of where I liked the cover so I read the back but I have never read a book just because I liked the cover.

1900151 Sometimes a cover will make me pick up a book, but unless I like the synopsis, I won't read it.

1230903 In airports I look for knives, poison, guns, rope...but then you all know my not-so-secret addiction to murder most foul!

Most other places I don't look much at the cover.

And you are welcome Danine!

2047708 Not that I can remember (when it comes to anything but manga). There have been times when a cover has caught my eye and caused me to pick the book up and read the back, but I always like to see if I think I'll like the story itself before I get the book.

Now manga (Japanese comics) are a different matter, and I have done that several times with books in that particular format. This was especially true during my first few trips to bookstores in Japan, at a point when my ability to read in Japanese was still somewhat limited (and very slow), and it was much easier to just pick out the books with pretty pictures (knowing that there would be more pictures like that inside, of course) and not worry about the story quite as much. ^_^; Can't remember any specific titles off the top of my head, but I know it happened.

Not personally, no. A cover might briefly grab my attention if its particularly attractive, but its the synopsis, reviews, author, and similar which help me decide whether or not I want to read a particular book.

197279 Have you ever purchased a book(s) because you liked the cover? Please give titles so we can look up the covers too :)

I apologize for not having a question last week. I hope you have a very nice weekend.

Also, I want to say thank you to Mary Todd who has greeted many of you and has been a cheerleader for us all in this group. She has been doing this since the group was fairly new. Thanks for taking the time to cheering us on as our lists grow. :)
