I was "prepered" for "It Had To be You" by other books by S.E. Phillips so maybe my perception of this book was not as consistent as it should be.
I'm really sorry and I hope that next time you'll get something better. Take care :)
@ Annvelwis, I honestly tried to read It Had to Be You but just couldn't get past the whole football theme. I absolutely hate football. It has wonderful reviews and awards but I just couldn't do it. Sorry.
Lori!!! I still don't have my copy of The House of the Spirits. It pisses me off. Why do people hold on to the library books this long? WHY!!! I want my copy!!Anyways I'm gonna get it sometime soon, hopefully. But May is gone already and it's a shame - I wanted to post my review here...
Forgive me?
**innocently bats eyelashes**
Amanda, sorry I haven't had a chance to finish the title you recommended (I really haven't read much of anything this month for some reason) but it is still on my shelf and I'll get to it soon. :O)Melissa, so glad you enjoyed Minda Webber! She's truly one of my favs and I love passing her along. :O)
Sherrill wrote: I am sad to say that I did not finish the book Always and Forever within the month of May. Mostly a time issue on my part. :)
That's ok Sherrill! Maybe time will be right for you sometime.
Tasha wrote: "Valerie, you seem to be a fan of paranormal, so I chose for you Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson."I managed to get this book from the library and finished it on 5/30. It seems like a fun series. Thanks for the recommendation.
Mel,
Finished Poison Study last night just in time for the last day of May. I have to admit the book picked up its pace by the latter part, and I was quite satisfied with the ending. Even though the romance angle was subtle, it was enough to meet my HEA craving..LOL.
Overall, despite the sometimes unwieldy writing, it has a great plot, fascinating worldbuilding, and intriguing characters. The rest of the books in the series are definitely going into my TBR list.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Lori, I finished The Smoke Thief today and loved it! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Thanks for a wonderful pick!
Lori, I'm still waiting for a copy of The House of the Spirits... Somebody checked it out from the library a while ago and is not letting it go. Grrrr. Pisses me off. But no worries, I'll get to it sooner or later. I mean as soon as I'll get my hands on it.But I'm ranting, oops. I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about the challenge or anything ;)
Mel,
I finally got my copy of Poison Study, but unfortunately, I'm in a middle of a move, so I might not be able to read it this May. Still, I will be working on it as soon as I have free time, and will get back to you here on my feedback.
Looks interesting so far based on the blurb and the reviews here on GR.
Mel wrote: "Kasia: I'm afraid I haven't got my book in time. I've requested Lilith St. Crow's book Steelflower. Picking it up tonight."Don't worry Mel! I wish I could tell you something about Steelflower, I haven't read that ;( Bummer. But if you ever see Working for the devil, sitting there unattended on the library shelf - I say go for it :)
LOL
Kasia: I'm afraid I haven't got my book in time. I've requested Lilith St. Crow's book Steelflower. Picking it up tonight.

I just finished (finally) this fun book! I really, really liked it! I say finally because life kept getting in the way, but it should have been a quick read. I LOVED the puns! It was fun to watch for them while reading. It was a fun setting too. Comedy and the supernatural amongst the "ton" was great. It was a cute romance with fun characters. I actually bought all of her books when I bought this one so I will definitely be reading the rest. Thanks so much for the great recommendation. I had never heard of her before and look at what I was missing! That's why this is so much fun!

I'm so glad to hear that, since I was so nervous lol.

Keyona, Just finished Minion. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for a great pick!
Barbara wrote: "Tosca: you seem to love paranormal romance so I choose Lara Adrian's Kiss of Midnight which is the first book in her series. I really enjoy this one and hope you do too."Barbara: THANK YOU :) I finished Kiss of Midnight and enjoyed it! Vampires, romance, hot men - right up my alley LOL

Glad you liked it, Annie. I thought it was a stand-out book, too. Very different from other fae worlds, with compelling characters who keep your attention. Plus I like the bound demon trio. :)
Hi Sarah. I've just finished Storm born by Richelle Mead. In amongst packing, moving & (not really) unpacking, it was a welcome relief!
Another series to keep an eye on.
It's different enough from other half-fae books around, that it stands out. Refreshingly, it's NOT full of sex - and the sex there is, makes sense & isn't there for the sake of having a sex scene.
[Forgive me, I prefer a plot with sex adding to it, rather than sex with a vague suggestion of a plot wrapped loosely around it.:]
Now waiting until later in the year for the second book.
I just finished tosca's selection for me, Dark Thirst by Sara Reinke. I enjoyed it very much, so thank you! This is the first time I've read about a vamp who is both deaf and mute. Brandon was a really likeable character, and it was nice to see him stand up against his abusive family. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see where these characters go.
Welcome, Senurox.
Unfortunately May's Pick-It-For-Challenge is already closed, but we will probably have one for June.
Just hang around, maybe join other challenges, and then you can sign up once the June thread is opened.

No problem Lori, a small delay doesn't make much difference, really. Thanks for the recommendation, The House of the Spirits looks like something I would like... A LOT. Now I just have to get my hands on it... ;)Thanks
Kasia-
Sorry it took me so long to post this. I was out of town and forgot about May challenges starting.
I picked The House of the Spirits for you. Its not a regular romance, but it has a lot of romance in it. Anyway, it looks like you read a lot of other books, outside of romance, and I thought that you might like it, given the other books that you rated well.
No stress, even if you get it next month or something, it'a all ok... I'm just saying I found it fun, and I think you might too =D Glad you're all excited, LOL.
Kasia: Thanks for the pick. Lilith Saintcrow sounds fantastic. I've put in my request at the library. Hopefully I get it soon!
Kristen::i had a burst of inspiration after looking at your shelves and think you may likeFrenchman's Creek: by Daphne Du Maurier:
Kristen wrote: "Thanks Yz. Adrienne, I think I'll go with a different recommendation. But I promise to read the BDB books over the summer ;)."

Annie wrote: "Sherrill - sorry to make you wait! Too busy packing to move, and living in another time zone!Oh, and calling in advice - I'm such a librarian, I try to do research before making a recommendation...."
Thank you, Annie. I believe Always and Forever is just the book I need to read. Sounds good! Thanks for the pick!
Amanda wrote: "Melody, my pick for you is Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood...I saw that you have The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt on your to read shelf...and would highly recommend it as well!"
Thanks Amanda!
I think I'll go with the Hoyt, only because she's a new author for me. (I'm sure I'll get to Heartbreaker at some point, I do like Garwood and don't remember reading that one!) :O)
Lori wrote: "Amanda, since you like paranormal and historical books, my pick for you is The Smoke Thief. I hope you like it!"Thanks Lori! This looks like a really good one.
Melody, my pick for you is Heartbreaker by Julie Garwood. This is the first book of her Buchanans series. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. If that one doesn't appeal to you though, I saw that you have The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt on your to read shelf. I loved that book and would highly recommend it as well!

Thanks I actually gave up on the athlete choice because I just couldn't find any. Now you've solved two problems for me. Thanks again.
Lori(metamorphosis)
My pick for May is Running Wild Wild 1 2 3 by Sarah McCarty. Paranormal romantica appeared to be a fitting pick after looking through your shelves.
I hope you enjoy the book!
Sherrill - sorry to make you wait! Too busy packing to move, and living in another time zone!
Oh, and calling in advice - I'm such a librarian, I try to do research before making a recommendation...
My friend, Louise, who I consulted, came up with a list of UK authors you might like, and I've narrowed it down:
Cathy Kelly - Always and forever
Jill Mansell - Perfect timing
If you feel like branching out into young adult books, you could try:
Jaclyn Moriarty - The year of secret assignments
Sarah Dessen - Just listen.
But any books by those authors would work (I hope!)
Sarah wrote: "Annie,

Thanks Sarah - I've put in the request from the library!

Lara,
Thank You! The book description sounds like something I would enjoy. You don't have to play it safe. I liked Black Ice. I read the entire book in one evening. :-)
Glori,I am playing it safe this month for you. I have chosen an author that you have read and it is obvious you like. LOL! I have chosen Hero Under Cover by Suzanne Brockmann. It is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy!
Thanks, tosca. Dark Thirst sounds good, and I'm off to order it now since I found it cheap on Amazon. It's funny you recommend Storm Front, too, since I have it on order in audio from my library. I have it on good authority that James Marsters from Buffy is the narrator, and I'm dying to hear him read it!
For Lori (Rosenbrook), I pick Full Moon Rising Riley Jenson Guardian Series Book 1 by Keri Arthur. I just got turned onto this series last month. Looking over your bookshelf, I thought this would be a good pick for you.I hope you like it!
