I havn't started Ella Enchanted yet. I found the movie on my shelf but don't remember much about it so will wait and watch it again after I've finished the book.
Since my son finished the Children's Illustrated Classic version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, we watched the movie the other day as his reward. He said things were different from the book. I havn't read it and I do have the regular version on my shelves so I'm reading it now for my Illinois author book for the monthly challenge. (I've already put a review up on the book if you're interested. In the back of my old used copy was a newspaper clipping that I transcribed into my review explaining how the book is a populist (political) parable. I found it very interested and wanted to share it.)
I just read this as part of our Folklore & Fairytales group, it was fun (May's theme is fairytale stepmothers). I thought her dad was an interesting character, and those 'blessing' smack-downs the fairy gives are priceless. For a completely different take on Cinderella, I also read another YA version, Bound, based on the Chinese version of Cinderella, one of the earliest.
Yes, I'm 6/10 for the monthly challenge and working on the 7th. I just wasn't able to crosslist between the two this month (other than one book I havn't read yet, lol).

Well you seem to be doing ok with the other challenges though lol I'm sure you'll get there and this was a good month with only 3 books to read !

Libraries rock!! And I'm not just saying that cuz I work in one and can get library books delivered practically to my DESK ;) but it really can be hit and miss when you see something calling you from someone else's TBR...
drat and double drat. lol My library doesn't have the Fairy Tale Feasts book. It looks cool. lol I love having my local library's card catalog online so I can instantly see not only if they have the book or not, but I can even tell if it's checked out or not.
I've never read any Erin McCarthy, so I'll give it a go. Not like there's not 1000 other things on my TBR pile if it doesn't work out :)
I've recently joined the Folklore & Fairy Tales group here, so the Yolen fits nicely - it's Fairy Tale Feasts A Literary Cookbook for Young Readers And Eaters. I remember really enjoying some of her dragon books as a kid.
Danielle, I wouldn't say Jack was bad, just not wonderful. I typically feel that way about McCarthy's work, so if you like her you'll probably enjoy this title as well. And I love Yolen (I'm just not a fan of short stories)...I don't know the one with fairy food...tell me more! :O)
Sorry to hear it Melody, I liked the look of your May reads and have borrowed a copy of 'You Don't Know Jack' from our library... didn't like it? We didn't have the Jane Yolen, meh, so instead I borrowed a book where she's retold fairy tales interspersed with recipes of fairy tale food! Looks cool, would probably suit young kids who like helping with cooking.
Kasia wrote: "I'm done, but I did not enjoy any of those books"Ick. Similar story here. The two I've finished were disappointing and the one left is short stories...but they're Jane Yolen, so how bad can they be? :O)
Thanks! I'm not too bummed about it all. To be totally honest Martian Chronicles were quite good, but it's a collection of short stories... so... I prefer a solid, developed novel! Oh, well.

I'm done, but I did not enjoy any of those books :( Why oh why did I pick stuf..."
Oh that is so sad that you didn't enjoy any of the books, but congratulations on completing the challenge
I'm done, but I did not enjoy any of those books :( Why oh why did I pick stuff? I'm flabbergasted.
