Hi Jen, I'm also from PA. Just finished American Wife, which I loved. (Hey if you are in a PA book club why not read my novel Standing Still and I'll visit your group)

1357247 Your welcome Edith. I just didn't like the way they made him seem. It changed his whole character in my eyes. I know no everyone thinks of it like that but it is just not what I picture him doing. I don't know maybe I am reading too much into it.

Thanks Jen, I appreciate it. I couldn't agree more about loving Mr. Darcy and would hate for that to be ruined. Thanks for keeping me posted :)

I don't really think this book was worth reading. it took a lot way from me when it came to Me. Darcy. I loved him in P & P, and if this book was writen by Jame Austin then I wouldn't like him so much. If this was really what he was like

2404802 OMG I haven't thought about Barnabas for I don't know how long, I loved that show...
The second 'True Blood' last night was great,...wow Lafayette!
Besides 'Watchers'... Dean Koontz' 'The Taking' really has stayed with me. I would recommend it highly.
Welcome! (by the way!)

message 97: by Edith (new)

1817435 Thanks!

message 96: by JenC (new)

1357247 I will keep you posted when I read it.

message 95: by Edith (new)

1817435 I completely understand! I took a break from the series b/c I wanted to read the two group reads this month but I'm ready to get back into them.

I was worried about the same thing for Private Diary of Mr. Darcy so you'll have to keep me posted.

message 94: by JenC (new)

1357247 I am on the 4th book right now and I love it but when i'm finished with this one I have to wait till my parents are done with the other ones to get them. I don't want to wait!

I haven't started the Private Diary of Mr. Darcy yet. I'm looking forward to reading it but at the same time I am really scared. I don't want to ruin P & P and I really hope it blends together ok.

message 93: by Edith (new)

1817435 I love the Sookie series! A friend recently gave me the whole series as a present b/c I broke my hand. I'm getting ready to start the third book.

369169 Sallie, it would be under the "wanna discuss this novel" thread (i think) just click on the upper right corner of that folder where it says "veiw all" and fumble around in there till you see it.

message 90: by JenC (new)

1357247 Sallie, I know what you mean about your job. I do Financial Aid for a school and some people just don't listen when it come to their money. They drive me crazy

message 89: by Atishay (new)

1595626 Hi Sallie, Welcome to the group!

message 88: by Sallie (new)

2304495 Hi Lori thank you for the info - how exactly do I find this thread? I'm new @ navigating this thing...

message 87: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 Sallie, hi and welcome to the group.
We have a thread on here that could be revived on Sookie... if you want to dicuss it. You may get more attention paid to it that way :)

btw, I am a fan of the books AND the show!

message 86: by Sallie (new)

2304495 It sometimes gets confussing when I do that - read more than 1 @ a time. But I listen to audio @ work & I read @ home so it keeps be occupied sorta...lol - Sorry I didnt send a reply back sooner but I had a client come in with billing issues & they just didnt want to take what I was trying to explain as gospel - yikes I love my job

message 85: by JenC (new)

1357247 Yeah just Living Dead in Dallas. I have a book that hopefully will be here soon. I won from Good Reads. Its called Illegal. I wanted to wait till that came so I didn't end up reading three books at once. When I win books I like to read them as fast as possible. Wierd I know but thats just me. I have my Sister's Keeper waiting to be read too.

message 84: by Sallie (new)

2304495 thanks for the info. I am always searching for something new to read - I like series the best. I only had the 1st 2 in the Sookie series so I had to order the next 4 from Borders. They should be here soon. Hopefully, they will be here by the time I finish book 2. What are you reading now, just Living Dead in Dallas?

message 83: by JenC (new)

1357247 LOL That is bad! I think I enjoyed Maggie Shayne a little more. When I looked her un on here I saw that she did a book with Harris Its like Sookie 6.2 or something like that.

message 82: by Sallie (new)

2304495 no, I havent read any by her - is she as good as the Harris' books? When I was a kid I loved the series Dark Shadows...I was probably around 4-5 years old & was absolutely in love with Barnabas. So I have been a Vampire fan for a long time LOL
I listen to audiobooks @ work & then I read when I am at home usually before bed & especially on the weekends. I will see if I can check the Maggie Shayne books out @ the library - its pretty bad when the library staff know you by name. LOL It's nice really.

message 81: by JenC (last edited Jun 17, 2009 11:23AM) (new)

1357247 I should say which one the three books are Demon's Kiss, Lover's Bite, Angel's Pain

message 80: by JenC (new)

1357247 That sounds like my dream day! Vampires and well all I need is Vampires! haha I go through stages where I read about one topic then I go on something else, but I have been on Vampires for awhile. Have you ever read Maggie Shayne she has a good vampire series out. I really enjoyed it

message 79: by Sallie (new)

2304495 Mine does - he reads all the time - he lost his job in Feb so he spends a lot of time reading -especially if it is one of those days he doest feel well. Drives me crazy because I cant seem to find him things to read. He is so picky about some authors....
I spent most of the day on Sunday finishing up Dead Until Dark - I cant put the darn things down - I have not had the time to read much of book 2 & it is driving me crazy. This has been a crazy week - maybe the weekend will be slow - its suppose to very hot here with a heat index of close to 100 so I will be inside with my sweet iced tea & Vampires - ya hoo baby

message 78: by JenC (new)

1357247 Haha...I know what you mean. If I didn't have to work I would stay at home and read all day! Nothing more relaxing then sitting down with a good book. My husband does not get it!

message 77: by Sallie (new)

2304495 I love Charlaine Harris - all of the characters are so addicting - Poor Bill he is so cute with Sookie...The first book in the series follows pretty much along the show, True Blood. Book 2 seems to pick up right where the last one ended...Would love to read them now while I am working - but I cant work the computer & read my book at the same time. LOL

message 76: by JenC (new)

1357247 I know what you mean I recently lowered my rating on all of the books in the series. I like the Charlaine Harris books better

message 75: by Sallie (new)

2304495 I have to agree - Read Twilight for a reading club & was like are you kidding me - didnt help that I had already read it once last summer & then read it again so I could lead discussion on the book - the 2nd time around was not as good as the first sorry to say....

message 74: by JenC (new)

1357247 Sallie I love it so far, but it really seems like Twilight was a rip off of this series since it was writen first

message 73: by Sallie (new)

2304495 Hi Jen
I love it....I am so hooked on this series. I watched the first season of True Blood & was even more addicted. How are you liking the 2nd book? Like you I'm not very far.

message 72: by JenC (new)

1357247 Hi Sallie how do you like Living Dead in Dallas so far (Dont tell me anything about it yet I'm only on the second chapter right now)? I really enjoyed the first book!

message 71: by JenC (new)

1357247 Sharon, haha I know what you mean about needing to keep alive and alert there. We went on Vacation one time and it was crazy. I live in a small town (I mean really small my class graduated 68 people). So to me it was insane! The book is a vampire book the whole series has the word dead in it somewhere.

message 70: by Sallie (new)

2304495 Hi I am a newbie from Marietta, Georgia living in Illinois. Currently my reading likes bounce all over the place. At this time I am reading Dragonfly in Amber-Diana Gabaldon & Living Dead in Dallas-Charlaine Harris.

message 69: by Sharon (new)

2353035 Hey, I live in Dallas Metroplex. There's nothing dead about the place! It takes two hours or more to drive from one side of the place to the other, have to keep alive and alert in the traffic for sure! (ok, that was probably unfair to the book).

1237196 Hi there Jen, welcome to the group :-)

message 60: by JenC (new)

1357247 I don't really know what my favorite one is. The one I read most recently is
The Voice of the Night

What is your favorite?

He just has this way of making you think differently.

message 59: by Beng (new)

2002643 Hi Jen, welcome. I read Dean Koontz too. What's your favorite from him?

message 58: by JenC (new)

1357247 I finished The Time Traveler's wife yesterday. I'm not really sure what I think yet. It is between a 3 star and a 4 star. I really liked the idea of the book, but I never really felt anything for Clare. I kind of feel like she never really fell in love with her present Henry untill they had their baby. I mean she always knew she would end up falling in love with him because she knew then man that he would end up being, he just wasnt there yet.

message 57: by Kristin (new)

2234964 im from Westmoreland County, PA.

I will recommend The Doctor's Wife. I just finished it read it in a few days (stupid work interfering with reading). It was an amazing page turning psychological thriller, i just loved it, AND i got it for .99 cents at GoodWill!

Also any Christopher Moore books, cant go wrong with him!

I haven't read Glass Castle yet, but from all the reviews looks like I'm going to have to add it to my list to be read. Thanks, Jen.

message 55: by JenC (new)

1357247 I just bought The Glass Castle, but I need to finish reading the time travelers Wife first. I can't wait to start reading. My husband who doesn't read even said it sounds good and might be worth a shot!
