Thanks for the offer, but we already have a set :)

2198088 Jenny Wright was also in Pink Floyd's The Wall.

How do you know that? Maybe he doesn't walk all the time?

message 99: by Kristen (new)

1116185 I rock at jeopardy though! Too bad no one will hire people who are a wealth of useless info... I'm great at playing ten thousand mindless questions with my 7 year old though.

226335 You're like my husband. He's a regular Cliff Claven...a walking dictionary of useless information.

1116185 Tressa wrote: "I remember that part. I never would have guessed that was her. How'd you know that?

You know - I'm a wealth of worthless information that I have no recollection of where it came from... I often think aliens are beaming the stuff straight into my skull.

message 96: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 Yes, she was. Looks like she stopped acting in movies in 1998. The only other movie I've seen her in is St. Elmo's Fire. She plays Rob Lowe's wife, I believe.

message 95: by Paul (new)

1853928 I don't think I've seen her in anything else. She was good in Near Dark, wasn't she?

message 94: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 That's right, Paul. For some reason I was thinking Mae was one they tried turning into a vamp, but that was Adrian Pasdar.

Wonder whatever happened to Jenny Wright's career? I liked her small role in The World According to Garp, and she was good in Near Dark, too.

message 93: by Paul (new)

1853928 There were two female vamps - one was Diamondback, the other was Mae, played by Jenny Wright. I don't think they ever managed to turn Caleb's sister.

message 92: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 I can't remember how many female vamps there were. I remember his wife looking ragged out, that's why I wasn't sure if it was her since she's not too ragged out in other movies I've seen her in.

She was Lance Henrickson's wife. The only female in the vampire clan...that I remember.

message 90: by William (new)

2167703 So you were all afraid to watch Not of This Earth!

Some 'Horror Afflictionadoes' you guys are!!

You think Titanic was the scariest movie ever made? WOW!! I think you'd better avoid the Nightly News.

message 89: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 I just don't remember who Diamondback is in the film. IMDB is great, but it never states things like "Diamondback, girlfriend of __________."

I get aggravated when I look something up on IMDB and I don't know the character's name and have to search for the thumbnail picture, that isn't always there.

message 88: by Rob (new)

2198088 Jenette Goldstein is her name. Her name was Diamondback in Near Dark.

Thank goodness for the IMDb!

message 87: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 Who did she play in Near Dark? I don't remember their names. Was she Lance Hernrickson's girlfriend? If so I thought that woman was so much older than this actress. Or at least she looked it.

message 86: by Rob (new)

2198088 She was also the woman who got speared by the "liquid terminator" in T2.

She was also a vampire in Near Dark.

message 85: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 I remember that part. I never would have guessed that was her. How'd you know that?

I guess she and her kids were some of the ones locked down there some of the upper crusts could put their wide behinds in the boats.

message 84: by Kristen (new)

1116185 Tressa wrote: "Kristen, you've got to be kidding. Does she go down with her kids?"

Yeah, she's a red-head reading stories to her kids as the ship sinks

message 83: by Jason (new)

783046 The only think I liked about Titanic was watching the ship go down.

message 82: by Rusty (new)

991587 Always,

I won't argue with you. Foundation is one of my favorites.

message 81: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 Kristen, you've got to be kidding. Does she go down with her kids?

1275626 Chris,
I don't really enjoy much Sci-Fi either,, But I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, Isaac Asimov.... He's a great writer & I dare anybody to say different.

message 79: by Scott (new)

732181 I bet that was convincing.

message 78: by Kristen (last edited Apr 30, 2009 11:23AM) (new)

1116185 Speaking of Titanic - Vasquez from Aliens plays one of the irish women who goes down on the ship.

AND WE COME FULL CIRCLE!

message 77: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 Hee hee hee. I love to stir up the Titanic hate around here.

Kristen, I hate Gone with the Wind. When I have seen it I expect it to end at the scene where Scarlett has her fists in the air vowing to never do yadda yadda again, but then it excruciatingly goes on for another two hours.

Aww, Rusty. What a catch you are. My husband wouldn't watch it with me--his excuse being he's Irish and didn't want to see how the lower class Irish were treated on the ship. Yeah, right.

message 76: by Rusty (new)

991587 It irks me that Titanic is still the #1 grossing film. And it makes me feel dirty that I contributed $10 of that. Damn me for being young and enraptured with the woman who is now my wife (Not so young any more, still enraptured).

message 75: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 I couldn't understand making a film where the audience knew what the ending would be. Give it props for being so historically accurate, but the finger for being such a crappy script.

message 74: by Scott (new)

732181 I couldn't even get through Gladiator.

message 73: by Kristen (new)

1116185 I will proudly admit to never having seen Gone with the Wind

message 72: by Tressa, Moana Lisa (new)

226335 I've never understood the hate for Titanic. To tell the truth, until I joined GR I didn't know there was hate for Titanic. You people are brutal, lol. It's just a sweeping weepfest, no different from any other romantic movie such as Gone with the Wind. It's not supposed to be a documentary on the sinking of the Titanic or the passengers riding her.

I will defend Gladiator to the death.

message 71: by Rusty (new)

991587 I have to defend Ridley Scott. He directed Gladiator, so in my book, he gets to rest on that laurel for the remainder of his life.

And yes, Titanic sucked rocks; the only part I enjoyed was when I realized Dicaprio had frozen to death.

message 70: by Kristen (new)

1116185 Not all that different - a few changes but not enough to really turn it into a great movie

message 69: by Scott (new)

732181 I love Fincher's films. Has anyone seen the director's cut of 3? Is it much different from the theatrical?

message 68: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 AVP, I'm a fan and owner of the original dark horse comics series, so that said, there is no amount of explicits that can tell you my bitter feelings at the travesty that people call the AVP movie, the first one I tolerated, it was a sorry attempt and putting a little bit of every plot line in the AVP comic series into a movie. The second one was even worse, how anyone could be entertained by it is beyond me.

With each alien movie they have their own distinct style and for the most part I liked what each one brought to the table, I still have problems with Hicks being killed in the 3rd by a safety beam though [smells like political bullsh*&t:]. I think the third movie shows how crippling FOX exec's can be and was the true turning off point for allot of people in the series. The director of the third is a mega successful director [now anyway:] and can do a good story, he was so upset by what the studio was doing, he doesn't even claim it on any official list of his movies. And if any of you think you don't like David Fincher, you must be mistaken; do an IMDB search.

But I'm glad that they Alien saga has been put to rest for now, hopefully they'll do it with AVP, another waste of a good potential.

[end rant:]

message 67: by Chris (new)

1448151 Really? Well, might have to check that out, then.

message 66: by Kristen (new)

1116185 I thought the first APV was okay - nothing spectacular.

The second we rented, watch the first 45 minutes of and then the DVD crapped out on us. Up until that point it had been a lot of fun. I was expecting to like it better than the first AVP

message 65: by Chris (last edited Apr 30, 2009 07:19AM) (new)

1448151 Yeah, you are right, Kristen...although that scene in the 4th movie where they are trying to flee the aliens and swimming underwater and they aliens are swimming after them...that was pretty cool.

On a sidenote, the first Aliens vs. Predator film was better than I thought....haven't scene the second one.

message 64: by Kristen (new)

1116185 I always considered the first Alien to be a horror/suspense movie.

The second to be an Action film

The third attempted to harken back to the first with the claustrophobia and the suspense - but fell flat for some reason (a bit to contrived maybe?)

The fourth went back to the action flick idea and really pushed the scifi aspect. Though some of the action was a bit better - I felt like the actors (for the most part) were just going through the motions and never really drew me in. They also pushed the action to the realm of unbelivable as far as bullets doing this or that which got on my nerves.

Not that I don't watch it when it's on TV

message 63: by Jerrod (new)

1302171 The City of the Lost Children is an amazing movie, another good Pearlman/Jeunet movie.

message 62: by Chris (new)

1448151 The first Alien is the best...although the second one is a highly enjoyable film but very different than the first. The third has its moments. But I've always felt the first Alien was more horror than sci-fi...

Jason wrote: "I love the first Alien, but I've seen the second, Aliens, so many freakin' times that I think I've worn it out. I also love the isolated dread of the third. The forth sort came in during this cotto..."

message 61: by Scott (new)

732181 Yeah, I can see how there is a change of tone in the fourth Alien movie. I love the characters, though, and I'm a huge fan of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and his visual style. I highly recommend his other films, particularly Amelie and The City of Lost Children.

message 60: by Chris (new)

1448151 I love horror, period. Don't really read sci-fi or fantasy...although when I was younger I loved the original Robert E Howard Conan novels. The Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series by Stephen R Donaldson was pretty good as well as his sci-fi Gap series. Okay, so I've read some sci-fi/fantasy...

message 59: by Chris (new)

1448151 Now if they remade it where the ship gets overrun by zombies...that'd be way cool! :)

Kristen wrote: "I hated Titanic... stupid movie.

we were drunk the first time we watched it and swore that then the ship hit the iceberg - eskimoes fell off the iceberg and landed on the deck. Everyone says we..."

message 58: by Jason (new)

783046 Oh, all I meant was it was written during the beginning era we are currently in, the "lets make it quick and stupid", and it shows. The plot may be more complex, and the ending is really dark, but it lacks that creeping slowness of the other movies. I think it might have been a better movie if they made the plot move a little slower. But it certainly isn't stupid.

No, the stupid movies came a little later...lol

message 57: by Scott (new)

732181 I don't see how it's quick and stupid when it has the most complex story of any of them.

message 56: by Jason (new)

783046 I love the first Alien, but I've seen the second, Aliens, so many freakin' times that I think I've worn it out. I also love the isolated dread of the third. The forth sort came in during this cotton candy, make it quick and stupid modern era of movies. But it still has its good points. Ron Perlman, for example.
