How many people here have experienced reading anything from the genre? I've recently read Jeremy C. Shipp's short story collection "Sheep and Wolves". Very interesting subculture of horror lit and worth checking out.
I also read Sheep and Wolves. Some of the stories were really good and some I just didn't get. I liked his novel, Vacation better. I don't know if bizarro is really my genre.
Oh God, another genre that I have about 100 books on my wishlist from. Just got my first Mellick, Apeshit. Although I hear it's not pure bizarro...but when I get some spare money, I plan on ordering a load from this genre. :)
Yes, bizarro [according to it's authors:] is a bastard genre that no book store or library will carry. Check out http://www.bizarrocentral.com/. I've read War Slut and I've got Jack & Mr Grin sitting on my shelf at home, plus a few lined up in my to-read list.Overall I love the concept and the off-the-wall nature of the stories and as stated in the above mentioned website, it's like reading Cat In The Hat or Hitchhikers Guide, but with more adult situations. But compared to some of my more favorite authors [Bruanbeck, Williams, Barker:] the writing is less refined and more juvenile.
What do others think on this genre. Anyone else read anything on bizarro?
I nearly bought a Mellick recently but at the last minute I chickened out of going up to the counter with a book called The Haunted Vagina.
