1157941 Tell me some of your must buy authors

message 2: by Rowan (new)

2172900 Some authors on my auto buy list are:

J.R. Ward
Diana Gabaldon
Anne Rice
Kresley Cole

These are just a few of the authors I follow. Unfortunately, being a university student means that my monthly book budget only allows a few books per month, so the library is my best friend!! ;)

790403 I second J.R. Ward and Cole. I also like Sherrilyn Kenyon and Larissa Ione.

Nophoto-u-25x33 Diana Gabaldon
Charlaine Harris
Shirley Damsgaard
Jim Butcher
Madelyn Alt
L.A. Banks
Diane Gabaldon
Laura Anne Gilman

Although, Gabaldon and Butcher are at the top of my list. Gabaldon for the incredible richness of her writing, complicated plot lines, and good historical research and Butcher for the very engaging Harry Blackthorne with his mouthy humor and conflicted nature.

1199857 Charlaine Harris, George Pelecanos, Robert B. Parker, Jim Butcher, Earlene Fowler, Patricia Briggs, Rachel Caine (just the Morganville Vampires, don't care for the Weather Wardens)

I see Kim Harrison mentioned. I have tried very hard to like her books and just don't. I read the newest one and it will be my last. Can't see making myself read something I just don't like.

1157941 Melodie I tried to get into Harrison's book as well I was reading the first one and two hundred pages in I realized I couldn't remember what I had read.

I know what you mean. I actually read them all, but I could't sit down and tell you, conclusively, what any of them was about. The only character I consistently liked was Jenks. I never developed any feeling at all for Rachel one way or the other.

2016128 Although I might not be caught up with their series, I'll buy books from the following authors without a second thought, knowing I'll like them:

Jenna Black
Jim Butcher
Kresley Cole
Jeaniene Frost
Simon R. Green
Charlaine Harris
Tanya Huff
Melissa Marr
Richelle Mead
Jonathan Nasaw
Christopher Pike
T.A. Pratt
L.J. Smith
Lynn Viehl
J.R. Ward

Wow, I guess I have quite a few!

426768 you all need to add Terry Pratchett to that your lists. Altho I think there won't be many more from him--he has early stage Alzheimbers, so I'm figuring that I'll have to start re-reading a lot of his books.

Another name I don't see on anyone's list is Lawrence Watt-Evans Especially his Ethshar books.

Michelle Rowen is another one I like

Victoria Laurie writes mysteries--but her "detective" is a psychic. And the series I like is actually called Psychic Eye.

and of course (even if it ISN'T PN) there is the Hannah Swensen series by (Joanne Fluke she gives you some of the BEST cookie recipes on this planet.

Victoria Laurie also has a "Ghostbusters-like" series. The heroine's name is M.J. Halliday and she sees gets rid of ghosts & spirits. It's a pretty good series, too.

2241602 I don't/can't buy books much anymore but I do check out these authors from the library every time a new one comes out:
Jim Butcher
MaryJanice Davidson
Patricia Briggs (she's new to me so I am still catching up)
Laurell K. Hamilton
Rachel Caine (haven't read the Weather Wardens yet)
Sherrilyn Kenyon
Richelle Mead (so far just Vamp Academy)

I know there are others but I can't think of them right now. I own the first 11 of LKH's Anita Blake series and the first 9 of JB's Dresden Files. I plan to own all of them eventually. I just need to find them on ebay or something when I have money lol.

426768 Elvia--there is a new Alpha and Omega book that hits the shelves tomorrow (Tuesday) If you are going to start reading those, you really need to read the first Mercy Thompson (Moon Called) and the short story in "On the Prowl" Of those 2, you DEFINATELY want to read the short story--if you don't you're going to be scratching your head going "HUH????"

Briggs doesn't do any world building in the Alpha and Omega books, since they are a spin off from the Mercy books. That's why I said to read at least the first Mercy.

Since you said she was new to you, I thought I'd post that. Those 2 series are really more UF than PN--but there are werewolves and witches and vampires, oh my, in both series.

Thanks Ann!
I've read the first three of the Mercy books...I also read part of the short form "On The Prowl" online (stupid google cut me off lol) because I had heard to read it before starting Alpha and Omega. I love the wolves!!
I will hopefully get to read the rest of the series very soon (getting my new library card tonight!!)
Briggs is my new favorite right now (although no one can take my heart from Jim Butcher :)

message 16: by new_user (new)

1365355 I love the wolves too!

message 17: by Melodie (new)

1199857 Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) was great!! I'll definitely be sticking around for this series now, but what I really want is Bran's story.

message 18: by Elvia (new)

2241602 Oh Melodie that would be a great story! I have the short and first book from the Alpha & Omega series coming from the library shortly and I'm so anxious to read them!

message 19: by Ann (new)

426768 oohh Melodie--I agree. I'd LOVE Bran's story too. But he's got such a LONG history--1300 or so years. I mean, that's a series in its own right.

message 20: by new_user (new)

1365355 Bran's story would be awesome!
