I loved Dragon Slippers as well. It is by far my favorite of her books. There is really something magical about it. The second one I would say no. I didn't feel like it had that same magic. It was a little slow, but still very likable. The third one was a lot closer. I loved the new world it described and the relationships with the dragons.
I just read Dragon Flight and Dragon Spear by Jessica Day George. I enjoyed them both, though I liked Spear a little better.
I really liked this one, too! I couldn't get my hands on a copy of "Just One Wish" last time I saw her, so I may have grab one just any old place.
I loved MY FAIR GODMOTHER by Janette Rallison! I laughed so hard at some parts I thought I might cry. I am thinking of buying the book for one line.
I just read "Recovering Charles," which I did enjoy. I was a little curious if I would, because I could not get into "The Wednesday Letters" to save my little life.
I also just read "Pickup Games" by Marcia Mickleson and will be posting my review on that tomorrow, and there's an awesome book on punctuation I haven't quite finished, called "Lapsing into a Comma." That's one of the best punctuation books I've ever read.
I haven't read Kingsolver's other books, so I'll definitely have to put them on my list.My list never shrinks. :)
For Rebecca, who is reading the Poisonwood Bible: If you are having a hard time reading this book, I suggest listening to the book on tape or CD. It was easier for me that way. I listened to this book two or three years ago and although I enjoyed Barbra Kingsolver's other books more, the Poinsonwood Bible did make an impression on me.
I mostly read children's and young adult books.
Lately, my favorite books have been Inkheart, I read all three and the Penderwicks on Gardam Street.
Okay, I just finished "The Mermaid Chair." Three words immediately come to mind. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID! Well, I guess that's just one word.Adultry, language, blasphemy-I couldn't come up with a single thing I like about it, and I can normally find something I like about a story, even if it's just one thing.
So, unless someone wants my copy, it's going.
Jill, I think ... and I'm not sure, but I think... that you manually import a book (there's a button labeled that) and after you upload it, it says, "are you the author?" and you click yes. It's been a while since I've done it, so I'm relying on a faulty memory here. Maybe someone else on this list will be able to chime in with a more concrete way.
Tristi,
On another subject, Congratulations on your new book!
By the way, do you know how to add new titles to an author page? I can't remember how I added the first books to my page. Now I have two more titles, and all it will let me do is rate my books. I really don't wish to rate my own titles.
Thanks,
Jill
Every time I go to the library, I pull a few titles off my GoodReads to-read list and get them, and then I feel proud of myself for working down my list. But then I just keep adding more. :) I love it, though - ever since I joined this site and started adding recommendations to my list, I've been finding a lot more books I've enjoyed without wandering blindly around the library.
Heather, I post all our book club books on my blog. I have been keeping track since we started 4 years ago. In October I posted a blog entry of all those books. Here is a link to it if you are interested....http://writinginberlin.blogspot.com/2008...
The list includes which books I picked and which book was my favorite book we read each year. There are some great ones there.
Also for anyone who has girls I know these are kids books but all of the Fancy Nancy series are AWESOME! My daughter wants to be posh just like Nancy.
These is my Words was our first book club book four years ago. I love the Attolia series. Eugenedes (did I spell that right?) is a great character. Our book club book this month is Left to Tell. Next month is my pick and I am doing Stargirl. I love that book.
LOVED 'These is My Words'! Liked it better than the next two.I also liked the Attolia series so much I bought all three!
For sure that is really one of my most favorite stories because I see Sarah, though a fictional character as quite a role model in being a strong person who forges on through all the trials. The second book was okay it really lays down the ground work for the third but the first book is the best. My book club is reading it right now.
I started These is My Words and I had a hard time getting into it. So you're sayin' I should try again?
I too have the Mermaid chair on my list of to reads. I am however reading These Is My Words for the second time around I loved it. Although there are real life adult situations they don't give you the details just the facts. It helped me to admire the Pioneers of the West.
Heather, once you've started reading it, you'll want to go straight through. It's pretty engrossing.
Okay, so I finished On the Edge this morning--which I enjoyed. I'm trying to decide if I risk starting James Dashner's 13th Reality next, or if I really need to wait until I have a day or two when I'm not on a (self imposed) deadline so I can read it straight through. And Fablehaven is definitely on the list.
Sabine, my husband really loved Elantris, too. It's been on my list forever, but I haven't gotten there yet. I'm looking forward to it.Okay, sounds like I definitely have to read Fablehaven!
Jewel, thanks for the update on "The Alchemist." I've heard a lot about it, but wanted the opinion of someone I know. You know? :)
I work as an aide for a class of struggling readers in our local middle school, and we're now reading Fablehaven. It's quite enjoyable.
I am reading the second Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson. I am having a bit of trouble getting into it because I read the other one so long ago, but I loved the first one and generally everything by him is great. Elantris is one of my favorite books! I know I will end up loving this one too, I have heard nothing but good.
I wanted to read "The Mermaid Chair" but spoiled it by watching the movie.Loved "Guernsey and the Potato Peel Pie Society"! I second the recommend of Fablehaven series.
I just finished "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" I think is the title. Good book.
And, amazingly! I have no books I am in the middle of reading! I have a stack I call my 'summer books' to read this summer. I may have to dig into that pile.
I'm afraid to start a new book because I'm afraid I won't get my editing done! But I've had Julie Coulter Bellon's book "On The Edge" on my to-read shelf for a couple of years, my husband really liked it. I think I'm going to start it next.
I just finished the newest Fablehaven and I loved it. It's titled Fablehaven and the Secret of the Dragon Sanctuary. If you haven't read the Fablehaven books, I highly reccommend them to all ages.
Maybe I shouldn't spoil it for you :) but I didn't much care for "The Mermaid Chair." Be sure to share your thoughts - I'll be curious about them!
I'm getting ready to start "The Mermaid Chair" by Sue Monk Kidd and "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho.
Those are some pretty good plans to have. :) I've read "Poisonwood Bible" but I wasn't as in to it as some readers. I will definitely put "Recovering Charles" on my to-read list!
Right now I'm reading "One Last Chance" by Jerry Borrowman and enjoying it.
I liked "Recovering Charles" by Jason Wright. I'm now reading "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver which is harder for me to read because it has very little dialogue. I'm getting more into it, but there's not much white space in this book.I plan to have lots of books to read after next weekend:).
