2841313 I just bought A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin because I'd asked an Amazon group for Dark Fantasy recommendations, and they suggested this. This group, however, seems better geared to what I like, so I'd like to know what you think. Has anyone read it? Is it worth reading?

The only George R.R. Martin book I've read is Fevre Dream which I thought was excellent!

1795513 I haven't read any Gearge RR Martin yet but have some of his books on my list to try. I'm curious to see what you thing of A Game of Thrones! I've also heard Fevre Dream is a wonderful book.

2245377 I love George R. R. Martin. His Song of Ice and Fire books are my favorite. They are dark, gritty medievalish fantasy. He is the master of morally ambiguish characters. SO yeah, Definitely worth reading :)

message 355: by new_user (new)

1365355 Did I hear morally ambiguous? Must...read... Martin...

message 356: by Jan (new)

2245377 Oh yes indeed. And that might be an understatement. lol

message 357: by Kathryn (new)

1497350 I've had Fevre Dream for awhile and keep meanng to pick it up as I've heard only good things. I figure it will be a good test to see if I like Martin' writing before I jump into his long and unfinished? high fantasy series.

I've started The Turning and recently picked up copies of Gil's All Fright Diner and The Forest of Hands and Teeth so I'll be good to go for the group.

2723521 I've finished Dark Lover by J.R. Ward this week-end, and I liked it. I gave it ***, because I'm not a big fan of the multiple narrators things, but I liked it enough to start Lover Eternal sometime this week. There's things that I found "weird", not your typical vampire story. We'll see what I think of the next one.

message 359: by Shanon (new)

1795513 I'm in the middle of The Name of the Wind which I knew was long when I started but didn't really realize HOW long! I'll be reading that one for a while I think. I'm also reading the latest Georgia Kincaid book - Succubus Heat. So far I'm really enjoying both books.

Anyone read Name of The Wind?? I've heard the ending isn't really an ending so I'm curious how bad of a non-ending it really is.

I think you'll get used to how she writes her books Josee! You'll get so sucked in and fall in love with the brothers that you won't be able to be away from them for long! LOL Yes I am obsessed LOL ;) Can't wait to hear what you think of Lover Eternal, one of my fav's honestly!

message 361: by Susan (Suz) (new)

2408497 I finished Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7), LOVED IT! And am almost finished with Grave Sight (Harper Connelly Mystery, #1), which I was reading at the same time as Lover Avenged... both were excellent! Next will be Bound to Shadows (Riley Jenson Guardian, #8) which releases tomorrow! YAY

I agree with Sandra, I really enjoyed the first book in the series and look forward to continuing it!!

message 367: by Levi (new)

2366694 Well I should be headin got the store tomarrow and I need some new Sookie books and I'll get one Harper book, I am assuming they are about the same leangth as the Sookie books. If so then that is good I can finish 'em really quick!

message 368: by Susan (Suz) (new)

2408497 Yes Levi they are relatively short in length, you will definitely get through them quickly!:)

message 369: by Jennifer (new)

2173969 Just finished Summer Knight by Jim Butcher & Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs. Excellent, as usual.

Now on to Foxmask by Marilier, Last Battle of the Icemark by Stuart Hill, and already reading Dexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay.

2016128 Started Grave Secret (Harper Connelly, #4) last night. I was going to wait for the paperback but I really wanted to know how the series was going to end.

message 371: by Shanon (new)

1795513 Is Grave Secret officially the last book in the series?

message 372: by Shannon (new)

2016128 Shanon wrote: "Is Grave Secret officially the last book in the series?"

That's what a friend who's finished it has informed me.

message 373: by Shanon (new)

1795513 I wonder if Harris will be starting another series up or putting more focus on her Sookie books? I kinda hope she does another series - her imagination impresses me & I love her stories!

message 374: by Melodie (new)

1199857 Shanon wrote: "Is Grave Secret officially the last book in the series?"

She had said at Bouchercon 2 weeks ago that this is most likely it for the Harper series.

message 375: by Levi (last edited Nov 01, 2009 06:04PM) (new)

2366694 So I didn't get the first Harprt book because Walden Books didn't have it, the store clerk said he must have just sold it, they had the other three though. So instead I bought Club Dead and started to read it that night.

message 376: by Shannon (new)

2016128 Glub Dead? ; )

message 377: by Levi (new)

2366694 Ooops! I'll fix it right now.

message 378: by Josée (new)

2723521 I've just finished Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward. It was AMAZING! I read 2 of the BDB books this weekend and I CAN'T wait to receive the next ones. I hope I'll receive my amazon's order tomorrow! I'm so hook I don't want to start anything else! I really don't know why I didn't pick that serie up sooner!

message 379: by Heather (new)

2675184 I just finished City of Glass, I loved it, it was a really good series, and I kind of wish it wasn't finished. Now I'm rereading Twilight for like the millionth time, before the next movie comes out.

message 380: by Levi (new)

2366694 I need to reread New Moon before the next movie. And along with Club Dead I really like it but it's just making me crazy and mad, I want Sookie to be with Alcide!!!!!!! I don't care about Bill anymore, for all I care he could actually die and I wouldn't hate it that much.... Even though I know he won't.

message 381: by Shannon (last edited Nov 08, 2009 01:07PM) (new)

2016128 I started both Need (Need, #1) and Going Bovine this week. Need started off kind of boring and it was hard to get into because of all the dialogue and inner monologue and no description. But then I kept reading and it got really interesting. There's these glimpses that something isn't quite right with the town and the teenagers in it. I'm really curious to find out what's actually going on.

And I have a fear of looking out windows when it's dark out, I think someone will be out there looking back in! So, there's been parts where this book has creeped me out!

I'm reading Going Bovine at work and it's really funny but I haven't gotten far yet. I'm hoping things pick up for Cameron though because his life pretty much sucks and it'll get depressing to read about if things don't change soon.

I am JEALOUS! I haven't been able to start that yet.

I'm reading The Hunger Games based on the reccommendation of MANY people.

I'm also reading Silk

2366694 I started reading Hush, Hush, Sunday. I really am liking it, similiar to Twilight but the main character and narrator is more realistic and (IMO) more likable.
I need to start The Forest of Hands and Teeth, soon.

message 385: by Heather (new)

2675184 I just finished Twilight again and am just starting New Moon. I want to have it done again before the movie comes out so that means that I only have 10 days left to finish it with hardly any time to read with all my school work. I don't know if I'll finish it in time. :S

I started HUSH, HUSH on Sunday, too, and am liking it, so far. Haven't had much time to read!

message 387: by Levi (new)

2366694 I was going to try and reread New Moon, but I'll read it whenever I guess. The Volturi chapters are possibly my favorite from the whole series.

1303301 I just finished Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer. Great book! (non-fiction)

Now I'm reading On the Edge by Ilona Andrews.Where Men Win Glory The Odyssey of Pat TillmanOn the Edge (The Edge, #1)

message 391: by Shanon (new)

1795513 I finished The Hunger Games a couple days ago and LOVED it!

Since then I haven't been having the best luck in choosing books.

Started Silk and was bored. Started The Lies of Locke Lamora & it wasn't what I was expecting at all - a VERY slow book. Started Frankenstein on audiobook from Librovox but the narrator changed on each track and I found it so hard to keep up with the changing narrators that I decided I'll just read it.

Yuck! I haven't put aside that many books in a long time and for it all to happen in the space of a few days was kind of dis-heartening. What's a girl to do!?! GO BUY A NEW RELEASE!!! I bought Magic in the Shadows which is sure to be a hit.

Also am starting Fighting to Survive & The Well of Ascension. All three are going to be great reads.

1614513 Currently reading Death's Daughter

Need to get Gil's All Fright picked up tomorrow hopefully. Actually, I have tons of books on my tbr pile, but nothing jumping out at me right now. Maybe I need another fluffy book- fun vampire chick lit style romance novel anyone?

I need to borrow The Hunger Games from my friend, she hasn't read it yet but from reviews and descriptions I think it'll be good.

2939495 I'm a multiple book reader so currently i'm reading 4 books: Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler, Kiss of Fire by Deborah Cooke, Howling at the Moon by Karen MacInerney and Barely Bewitched by Kimberly Frost

I'm enjoying all of them very much and already have plans to read the next book in each of these series.

I've been recommending it to everyone! It was really good, I think you'll like it Levi.

Kat, you're in good company. We have a lot of people that read several books at once here! I haven't read any of the ones you're reading right now. Which one is your fav of the four?

message 397: by Kat (new)

2939495 I think right now my top fav of the four i'm reading would have to be Tempest Rising this is her first novel and I always enjoy reading new authors, second place goes to Howling at the Moon.
