305220 Ah. Then ignore me!

834216 I think it was a case of her wanting to look at a book and say "I love this narrator...I wonder if he's done this specific book."

305220 Even audiobooks should have ISBNs. Use the ISBN to find the particular edition.

1005037 Illustrator is a common one, BunWat -- others often seen are editor, photographer, and translator, and some books also list people who write introductions or forewords. Some kids' or abridged books have creators and adapters.

It makes sense to me to treat them like authors, because then we can hook into all of the systems already set up for authors: like Julie at All Ears mentioned, you can be a fan of a narrator, see a list of their books, read about them in a profile, etc. Better searching would be nice, but that's been on request for a while....

747169 A narrator is not really an author though. If thats how the system works right now, then its how it works - at least you can find a narrator with some effort. I guess illusrator would be another example of a collaborator that isn't an author but that still might be a category someone might want to search on.

1344613 When you are viewing the list of other editions, you can sort by format. 'Audio' should be near the beginning (or the very end).

834216 Based on social security records, Michael turns out to have been the most popular male child name in the US every year from about 1950 until the early 2000's.

A better way to find specific editions would be useful, although it's not really necessary for most books: if there are less than 50 versions you can just go to the full list and search the page for the name. When you get more than 50, though, they start getting spread across multiple pages and it becomes much more difficult.

1432709 Thanks, Michael! I never thought of looking for my favorite narrators that way. It is awkward to find narrators for books that have lots of editions. For example, Simon Vance, is listed as an author on one edition of Great Expectations. When you type in his name, a print edition of the book shows up. With over 400 editions of this title, it is painful to find the right one. For many of the audiobooks on my shelf, I've given up on finding the right version and just pick a print edition. Narrators and authors are very different and I would love it if they could be tagged separately.

Thanks - btw, I love your goodreads id. My son is named Michael. Who could believe that it would be the most popular name the year he was born??

834216 They already can. Narrators are often added to books as authors, but with the role of "Narrator". However, because the system treats all roles equally, they have their own "author" page, profile, etc., as long as they are listed in the system.

For example Simon Vance is a narrator on many, if not all, of his books listed.

747169 Good idea Julie!!

1432709 I'd love to see narrators treated in a similar way as authors. They could have a special designation (Goodreads narrator), people could become fans, include profiles, and a list of audiobooks they have narrated. Audio is growing by leaps and bounds in popularity and people have strong loyalty to certain narrators (just like authors). Thanks - I love this website.
