1562562 This is another quarterly challenge (May 01-July, 31) dedicated to the men we love. Five of them walk by day and five of them dwell in the shadows. If you're not a fan of paranormal, you can substitute the paranormal portion with 5 other professions listed below. In this challenge the hero/male counterpart should be one of the following:

1. Read a book whose hero/male is a "cowboy"
2. Read a book whose hero/male is a "cop/fbi"
3. Read a book whose hero/male is "military"
4. Read a book whose hero/male is a "doctor" or "lawyer"
5. Read a book whose hero/male is an "athlete"

6. Read a book whose hero/male is a "demon/witch/warlock/walker" (ghostwalker, skinwalker, etc.)
7. Read a book whose hero/male is a "faery/wizard/elf/angel"
8. Read a book whose hero/male is a "were-animal/shape shifter"
9. Read a book whose hero/male is a "hunter" (dark, ghost, were, etc.)
10. Read a book whose hero/male is a "vampire"

Yz offered these substitutes in palce of the paranormal listing (6-10). Or feel free to mix-and-match.

Alternate list for NON-PNR fans:
6. Read a book whose hero/male is a CEO or businessman.
7. Read a book whose hero/male is a celebrity (actors, musicians, etc)
8. Read a book whose hero/male is a teacher/professor/scholar
9. Read a book whose hero/male is techie/nerd/computer whiz
10. Read ba book whose hero/male has a unique/unusual occupation. (Be sure to mention or describe it)

434780 Great challenge idea, Tasha.

I was planning to launch a career/profession challenge actually, but I'm going to discard that in favor of yours. Looks like our minds were tranversing the same wavelength...LOL..

message 4: by Annvelwis (new)

1910173 This is intresting... I'm wondering how much these categories allow for. For example... could EMT, male-nurse, medical examiner and/or veterinarian be considered as 4. "doctor"?

u can still post yours for people who want to substitute different items. if you like, we can add your choices to the list and extend the timeline. what do u think?

1895628 I can do the first 5, but as I'm not into paranormal, will have to do something else for the bottom 5 or just skip them. If I change the professions, do I just pick any 5 that aren't already listed in the top 5?

Like Adrienne, I'll probably have the opposite problem.

2149601 Oooo, goodie! I was so disappointed when I couldn't figure a way to complete the "What's in a Name" challenge...this will be fun! :O)

1895628 The non-PNR categories certainly help. I was going to re-read a Harry Potter book for one category. Odd Thomas by Koontz might fit in another. But I don't read vampire or werewolf books, so rather out on those categories. And any book I have with witches, they're female. lol

message 17: by Jael (new)

1157941 Hmm I can do 6 and down but i don't know about the first five.

message 18: by Julie (Mom2lnb) (new)

883725 Is this a cross-over challenge? I'm already doing the A-Z book challenge, and don't want to get in over my head, but this one sounds fun too.

message 19: by Yz (last edited Apr 04, 2009 06:32PM) (new)

434780 All books can be cross-challenge here...so have fun..

If you can fit a book in different challenges...you are more than free to do so...I think just doing that is already a challenge..LOL

message 20: by Nikki (new)

1120281 Great challenge, Tasha.

message 21: by Melody (new)

2149601 Hmm...do ya'll think a superhero would qualify as an athlete?

message 22: by Yz (new)

434780 Here is a great thread for sports romances, if you are looking for athletes:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1087...

My top nominee would be Susan Elizabeth Phillips Chicago Stars series where the heroes are from the world of football.

message 23: by Melody (new)

2149601 I think I've read most of those, although I could always pick up a Deirdre Martin hockey title...I'm just looking for an excuse to read Karma Girl. :O)

Ha Ha ha Dr Who indeed:)::mind you Tasha did n't specify that he had to be a medical Dr:: so a time travelling one sounds ok to me::

1504904 I find this challenge challenging (that means I'll need a little time to fill out this list, it's not easy)!

Great idea, though, Tasha! How did you come up with this stuff? I'd never think of it...

message 27: by Kasia, Tender Barbarian (last edited Jun 05, 2009 09:36AM) (new)

1504904 I prefer not to know too much about books before I read them.... I tied to put some books in advance but I failed to do so miserably... In the end, I decided, I'll be filling this out as I go...

2. cop/fbi.................................Genesis
3. military................................Ender's Game (commandor)

1125077 Kasia: That is what I am doing. I feel better about putting read books in first. But having th challenge list as a ref. is great =D.

message 29: by Kenjii (last edited Apr 05, 2009 05:05AM) (new)

1125077 There is a book called Fireflies about faries. If I get that I'll be set. M/M romances paid off on this challenge =D.

Fireflies

message 30: by Kasia, Tender Barbarian (last edited Apr 05, 2009 10:45AM) (new)

1504904 You're putting all the already read books in? But isn't that supposed to start in May? ::confused::

1895628 It does start May 1st. We have a different quarterly challenge that ends end of April I'm working to finish before I start this one. I tried putting books on this list that I either want to read or are crossovers from other challenges. If I had different books on each and every challenge I'd never make it. lol

message 32: by Kenjii (last edited Apr 05, 2009 10:43AM) (new)

1125077 I thought we could put books we have read or are going reading. Let me know. I want to do this right.

She didn't specify, lol, and I have them so figured I might as well finally get around to reading one of them. I bought three off amazon.com about 4-5 years ago. It's got christopher eccleston (I think that's his name), second to last doctor and Rose on the cover.

The ones I have are:
Doctor Who The Stealers Of DreamsDoctor Who Only HumanDoctor Who The Deviant Strain

Doctor Who The Stealers Of Dreams by Steve Lyons
Doctor Who Only Human by Gareth Roberts
Doctor Who The Deviant Strain by Justin Richards

Usually, if there is a time period, that would mean books that are read within that period, so in this challenge that would be within May 1 - July 31.

There is no problem listing down books you plan to read, but this usually means that challenge don't officially starts until the 1st of May.

message 37: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 aH oK. I will change my list then, thanks!

message 38: by Tasha (new)

1562562 Okay, sorry for any confusion my posting of this challenge may have caused. This challenge seemed so clear in my head, but I guess it's not coming across that way when I post it. :)

First off, the "doctor" does not have to be a M.D., they could very well be a PhD, a vet, etc. Secondly, the books need to be read BETWEEN the dates of May 01-July 31. Third, you do NOT have to read both the pnr list and the alternative list, but if u want to, that's all you. The alternative list was provided for those who are not fans of the pnr. So for the non-pnr readers, just omit that list and replace it with the alternative list. For those who would like, you can mix and match the pnr list with the alternative list. (ex. u could read 6,8,9 from the pnr list and 7,10 from the alternative list, or whatever) The only constant of this challenge are the ones listed from 1-5 of the list.

I hope this clears it up a little bit better. Feel free to let me know if there's anymore questions. I'll try to get it right next time I decide to do a challenge. So please just bear with me. Thanks :)

message 39: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 No worries Tasha. You did good =D

1339156 I want to do this but I'm going to wait until the May challenge categories are announced. I have to have some overlap cause there's no way I can read a different book for every challenge. If the challenges weren't so darn much fun it would be so much easier!

message 41: by Yz (new)

434780 I second you on that, Lori. I have to pace myself or I will get burned out...LOL..plus I have to stop being too much of a perfectionist and just be happy in attemtpting to finish a challenge..LOL
