message 2: by JanOMalleycat (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Oops! I see that I was too late with my qualms about a folder for this, but no worries.

Jan O'Cat, off to sulk. Well, I WOULD be off to sulk, but I have to catch up on posts and add a few more books to my list and see who else has joined now and check out some reviews, and then I'll sulk. Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket.

2187555 JF: The Brass Verdict, Michael Connelly. Very good book, but I didn't get any feel for Harry Bosch as being the real Harry Bosch. Sticking him and Jack McEvoy in the book didn't add anything IMO.

NR: August Heat, Andrea Camilleri. I put this one aside to read Connelly; now I'll finish it.

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'm reading Bones of Betrayal by Jefferson Bass. I'm mostly posting to see if my name comes out right.

message 10: by Ann/TheoAnn (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Oops, nope. I think I fixed it, although if I'm ever active in my other Good Reads group, they will wonder who TheoAnn is...

1937006 Dan: I really liked The Brass Verdict and said something very similar about the cameo inclusion of Jack McEvoy and the one dimensiional Harry role. In my book notes I said I wish there had been a little more about what Harry was thinking and wondered why bother naming the reporter Jack McEvoy - the role was so slight. I think we decided it was perhaps a brief re-introduction to McEvoy to be continued in the next book.

1937006 JF Whisper to the Blood thia was a wonderful book in the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow . I loved it. Dana is a Goodreads author - we can bcome her fan or friend. I am curious to find out if the link to the book will let you see my review.

Here is part of it: The Kate Shugak series will probably always be my favorite, though the Liam Campbell books are very good too. Kate grows as a character from book to book, and I have to admire her tenacity and strength of character as I vicariously enjoy her view of a world I can only imagine; the harsh reality of the Alaskan environment, the stresses and challenges faced by people living in such isolation and with the conflicts of native traditions and global needs for resources found there.

I am now reading Charlie Huston's Every Last Drop. I had picked it up, then put it down to read Whisper to the Blood (Library due dates) In the wings is Among the Mad by Jacqueline Winspear

They were closing all the TV boards allegedly, so we'd found a new spot in a non-tv area, but that's up in the air. We're continuing the game via email for now.

1842352 I keep on looking at the Kate Shugak books and passing them up because I wonder how much the series really deals with Native American issues . I tend to be disappointed if it's really a procedural with only a few references to Native Americans and no real focus on their issues.

THE TIN COLLECTORS by Stephen Cannell. I became interested in this writer when he appeared with James Patterson in a poker game on the new tv show Castles. After reading this 1st in the Shane Scully series about an LA police sergeant fighting corruption in the PD, I found that this is a series I very much want to pursue. Reading IN ORDER of course.

1937006 Shomeret:
I realize we don't always have the same thoughts about books, I sometimes feel rather shallow when compared to your reading tastes (and in awe of your depth of reasoning for selecting your books!) ... but in this case I feel Dana Stabenow deals very well with the issues of native Alaskans, and people who have come to call Alaska home vs. those they consider outsiders who won't last a winter there. The Park Rats and their issues are a focal point of the Kate Shugak series. Kate is a character I very much admire.

Nophoto-f-25x33 JF: The Color of Light - Karen White - I really liked this book and I'm really glad I found this author.

NR: The Bay At Midnight - Diane Chamberlaine - another new author for me. I liked one of her other books and I don't think I'm going to be disappointed with this one either.

Only a couple deal extensively with Native American issues. Most have tangential references.

Nophoto-u-25x33 JF Sailing by James Patterson. LOL, I figured it out before I even started reading it, by reading what it said on the Jacket.

NR Non Mystery Sister's Choice by Emilie Richards

message 38: by Daniel (new)

2187555 JF: August Heat, Andrea Camilleri. This was a translation from Italian, and both the story and the translation worked well. He has several others, and I think I'll be reading them too.

NR: Dead or Alive, Michael McGarrity. IMO this series has been going downhill for the last few books. Here's hoping this one will reverse that trend.

Shoot! I meant to photocopy that recipe. I'll have to get the book out of the library again.

I wouldn't think him creepy either. I've never read the Bolitar series by him though. Is it best to read them in order?

I really enjoyed several of Emilie Richards books. I wish she'd write some stand alones again. I haven't read the series she wrote.

I don't think you have to read the Myron books in order. But then I've become somewhat the UOOOR!! It's been a while since I've read the older Myron books, but I don't recall lots of things going on that built from one book to the next, so reading however you want shouldn't matter. I'm currently reading PROMISE ME. I sat on it all this time figuring he might not write anymore Myron books after it, but since my copy of LONG LOST arrived on Saturday figured I'd get to PROMISE ME and take LONG LOST to Vegas this weekend along with WORMWOOD, the new China Bayles story.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Oh I have Promise Me at home too! I might just grab that new one too. Thanks for the advice.

message 44: by Ann (new)

1937006 Dan: I picked up Dead or Alive at the library the other day but haven't gotten to it yet. I gave the last two Kearney series books 8+ ranks when the previous books mostly were ranked 9's. They aren't quite as fresh as the earlier entries in the series.

1518115 as for reading myron and win in order-
that depends on who you ask..lol
i'd say definitely yes.

message 47: by Ann (new)

1937006 Lori:
Ahhh, to read in order or celebrate reading out of order. <g> There is certainly character and relationship development ongoing in the Myron and Win series, so that is a factor. With as large a backlist, I wouldn't say you need to read all of them in order though. I would probably start in the middle after reading the latest. (which I look forward to!)
