834216 The polls would be a lot easier to deal with if someone would hide or delete the older, out-of-date polls. As it is, the "new" polls are buried in the middle of long list.

1376766 Michael, as far as I can tell, there is no way to hide past polls... The only options available to mods is to edit or delete the poll.

You bring up a good point though... I think I will go beg Otis for this in the feedback group. :)

Agreed ... it would be nice to have that ability; however, until we get it, you also have the option to sort by newest poll instead of the apparent default of latest voted on.

834216 Is there any reason not to just delete out-of-date polls? In other groups I belong to the older polls certainly disappear after awhile (I'm not a moderator so I don't know the process).

1572236 I personally like seeing "old polls" - I sometimes get ideas of new books to try from them - please don't delete old polls!

889182 If a moderator could please remove the "Featured" designation on some of the polls, then they will sort with the most recent one first!

I don't mind if we keep the old polls, I would just like to be able to find the new ones easily.

Agreed - I like seeing the old polls but I wish the new ones were listed first. It would be much easier.

395599 There is currently no "delete poll" option. Something to bring up on the Feedback site I think...

I'm not sure how the "featured" designation gets there but I have noticed the sort by "newest" function doesn't always work - if it's because of "featured" then I'll have to see if there's a way of editing that (though I'm scared of touching polls once they're up because the votes get so easily wiped). If we could at least get old polls to shift down, that might keep everyone happy.

Also, if you are creating a poll, you can send a message to all the group members letting them know it's there; otherwise there's no way to know there's a new poll up.

1376766 Shannon, you have to go into the poll as if you're editing it, and then at the bottom it has "Delete this poll".

You can also take off the Featured designation by unclicking the box for that in the edit page for the poll. It won't delete the votes unless you check the box saying to do so. :)

395599 Thanks Becky! I'm always so worried about losing everyone's votes again!

Nophoto-u-25x33 When is the poll to choose September's books due to come?

message 12: by Richard (new)

1662632 Oh -- old polls are deleted?

When we were choosing this month's "Eco Disaster" SF book, I grumbled about how most of the choices were really old, except one of 'em. Or at least I think I did. I was trying to go back and find that one to read it, but it would have been in the discussion under the poll...

Are those discussions hidden away somewhere, or gone?

1154130 I'm pretty sure the book you were thinking of was Forty Signs of Rain. Flood was the newest on the poll, but I think you said it was too implausible.

Normally at least the nomination threads end up in the "Old, Closed Posts" folder, but I don't see it there or here.

1662632 OK, found it. Hmmm, didn't realize it was part of a trilogy.

I wanted it for a suggestion for the real-world reading group hosted by the wonderful Borderlands Books. (I'm always conflicted when buying scifi books — Amazon et al support Goodreads, but we've got a world-class SciFi/Fantasy bookstore in San Francisco. Thus the shameless plug.)

1154130 Well you can think of it this way. Goodreads makes at least some money from ads, while the local bookstore makes all of its money from sales. Just remember to add Goodreads to the whitelist of any ad-blocking software you use, as they don't get paid for blocked ads.
