I would like to recommend that we only read an author once. This group has introduced me to some wonderful authors that I have, on my own read other books by them, that not necessarily everyone would have wanted to read (Kate Jacobs!). This way, we get a variety.
The Scandalous Summer of Sissy LeBlanc by Loraine DespresThis looks like an excellent read and definitely chick lit!
Here is a review from Amazon:

5.0 out of 5 stars Sissy Rocks!, December 8, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Scandalous Summer of Sissy LeBlanc: A Novel (Hardcover)
Sissy is sexy, sassy, savvy, and sweetly, seductively sinful. Ain't nobody--certainly no mere man--push her 'round. Here is honey-dipped hilarity from start to finish, with much to say about the way men and women get along and, perhaps more pertinently, the way they do not. Loraine Despres writes with a Southern-fried quill that flows with characters who are fiercely, wholly, completely human. Sissy Leblanc's Scandalous Summer is laff-out-loud funny and keenly erotic. Its author serves up a feast, a banquet, that pops and sizzles with dialog that is so sharp you should read it with a supply of BandAids at the ready.
There are some great authors out there and I think we should really reach out and get other authors that we havent read before. I love reading chick lit and that is the main thing that attracted me to this group, but I also think it is great to get into a book with substance every once in a while. My other bookclub read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" which is an amazing book, I definitely recommend that one, I wouldnt mind reading it again sometime. :)
The Opposite of Love
I totally meant to add this before... it's been on our polls before, but the author, Julie Buxbaum, sent me a message on Goodreads saying that if we did decide to read it, she would conference call in on out meeting and chat with us... so that could be fun too!
I'm still pushing for One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell. As an aside, I'm not really interested in reading non-fiction books as part of this group - I joined specifically because the books were "chick lit".
Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea
Looks funny, hopefully it is funny - I think Chelsea Handler is hysterical
This Side of Married
Something I picked up in the discount bin recently - looks like chick lit, smells like chick lit!
Love in the Time of Cholera
This was also a movie - might not exactly be chick lit either, but should be interesting
The Road of Lost Innocence The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine
I was reading an old episode of Glamour and there was a feature on this woman Somaly Mom who was sold into sex slavery by her grandfather... it seemed really interesting to see how other can cultures treat women and how people can "justify" their actions.... it's not exactly chick lit, but it looks moving and a good break from the usual happy go lucky stuff we read!
Hi Ladies,
Soooo we had a fun meeting last night discussing Milkrun! After some discussion, we all kinda decided that no one was really "thrilled" about either of the 2 choices for April's book... Since we are all pretty fast readers, we decided to open up the book selection for April again... so please please please put down your suggestions for a book to read! We'll have suggestions up until Monday the 6th, then we'll vote until the 10th... so that should give us all plenty of time to get a new, fun book!
Jenn
