JG | 1 comments Here's my hello to all. Thank you to (who?) for
beginning this group.
I hope in the year ahead I can contribute & I am sure I'll learn a lot.

My reason to be here. I'm a newbie to picture books.

I'm working along on a project with an illustrator who has taught me - the newbie of the team - so much.

My tea cup full of wisdom, edit that to a thimble-ful of picture book insight at this early phase of my journey into it - is that many publishers like to pair a newbie with an established pro. Does anyone find this from experience to be true? Or, not true?

So if the illustrator is a newbie, they may want an author who has a track record. This of course is only after considering what medium they think the story is best illustrated in, & what mood, style, tone, etc. etc.

And as with all things picture book, there are no rules as we know. So we will see a newbie illustrator with a newbie author successfully.
And pros with pros & of course that sort of team will be hugely a hit.

okay, enough ramble.

happy to be here. thanks again.

~ jg

My wife did illustrations and cover work for my book "Haley Cork and the Blue Door". I was fortunate because she is talented and not averse to dipping her fingers into the paint. I asked her to portray a girl in old fashion dress (Dutch Colonial) who has just realized the only friends she has in the world cannot help her in role as Keeper. Her brave calico Crunk sits on her lap on the threshold of the Blue Door.

This was her first time painting illustrations, but it put the fever in her. She is now illustrating full-time.

Randall | 3 comments I am working on a children's book and am at the point I want to start working together with an illustrator.

If anyone would like to know more or might be interested, please message me.

Thanks to all.

Mary Findley | 6 comments Randall, here is a link to our facebook page, where you can see some of the illustration work I have done for our books. I would love a chance to work on a children's book. Our work to date has been mostly for electronic books and not specifically for children but let me know if you think I could help you. I have been a teacher, all grades and have made puppets, done costumes for children's theater, and have made hundreds of illustrations for teaching purposes for all ages of children.

Hi Chelsea, thanks for getting in touch. I like your art, let's see what you think of one of my stories. Look on youtube and search for ferdyfarmdog. I did this using digital software & photos, but it's too limiting. PS I share your love of wolves!

Chelsie (Wolfiechels) | 2 comments Hello again Jane

I love your story, the rhyming is very good. Something children would remember over time :) I believe my niece would just love this video. Also I like how you used real photos in it.

It is nice to find someone who shares my love for wolves. These poor misunderstood creatures. Kids are brought up believing these animals are scary and vicious thanks to 'three little pigs' 'red riding hood' and 'the boy who cried wolf' ... I am sure there are more examples, though these are ones just off the top of my head. I always wanted to do a kids book about wolves, to portray them in the good light, just like they should be. (^_^) I did attempt at writing one. If you like I could email it to you, would love some read back on it.
Oh and thank you for liking my art, it is something I am most passionant about, and practise every day.

Hi Chelsea: By all means email your story to me, I'd love to read it. I've sent a story to a childrens publisher and asked if they prefer to see submissions alraedy illustrated or whether they match author to illustrator. I'll let you know what they say (if they bother to reply!)

Kirsty | 1 comments Hi all

I am an illustrator looking for a new project to give direction rather than just lots of different little doodles with no sense of direction. Have always drawn and like to use pen and ink, water colour and acrylic as main mediums. Some images I will also recreate on the computer if I think it works.

http://bexon-white.deviantart.com/ for a haphazard collection of some of my works.

Feel free to message me at kirsty.bexon@hotmail.co.uk if you have any questions.

Jim Liston (Jimsgotweb) | 1 comments Hi,
I write short stories every week, and publish them on my website:

http://jimsgotweb.com

I'm looking for people that want the exposure of having their illustrations viewed by visitors to my site. In exchange for using your work, I would include your name, your bio, and a link to your website. Your work will be actively promoted through social media, ie: FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest, and etc.

I can write stories based on graphics that you already have, or you can create new images for my stories.

To get a better idea of what I'm looking for, here is a link to a website that uses the same idea:

http://thestoryshack.com

Also, I will be publishing an eBook this summer. It is a collection of unpublished short stories, and I will need cover art for it. I will pay you for your work on that project.

I think that by working together, we can create an exciting environment for the internet user and receive of exposure.

Thanks for your time,

Jim Liston

Charlene | 1 comments I came across an Illustrator Competition at a indie publisher with great track record. I am a huge fan of the award-winning author Boston Teran. High Top Publishing is his publisher. Go to: hightoppublishing.com and then click on Phineas Competion. "The Tried and True Tales of Phineas Ichabod Rate by a first time young woman author sounds fascinating. $10,000 prize.

Derek (Sirius3333) | 6 comments Hey, My name is Derek, I've been on here before. Just here to clarify that what I'm interested in writing is manga for mature audiences (gore, violence, sexual references). Looking for anyone with experience in drawing Japanese manga. Sorry for the confusion!

Akamm | 1 comments Hi all, I would be interested in any ides and thoughts from illustrators on my new picture book series; www.animalgang.co.uk.

I am considering self publishing as a start to prompt the first couple of titles, of which the are currently 8. A picture ebook is also a consideration.

Any feedback welcomed.

Dima Krasovski | 4 comments Hi Akamm, check my portofolio at www.dimakrasovski.com and you will find a lot of animal illustrations and you can see my style.
I worked on a story with animals recently and it was published on Amazon not long ago, here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Bedridden-Adven...
It was in to 50,000 for the first 3 days, you can see the reviews also.
So I am always interested to illustrate fun stories with animals.Unfortunatelly my schedule is a bit busy for the moment but if you can wait I will make it worth.
Good luck with your project!
Dima

Bric Barker | 1 comments Hi. My name is Bric and I've won awards for poetry, play writing, and journalism. My dream, though, has always been to find a like-minded artist and create a graphic novel. I have a passion for writing and need someone equally passionate to take on such a huge artistic commitment. For the script I've already written, I need someone with versatile skills versed in different styles to fit the needs of the story presentation. I need an artist with vision who isn't afraid of experimenting with the genre.

I am currently living in Taiwan, but with the technology today, communication should not be a problem.

I've also got a comic book series script about Korean Dragons and a few children's stories for the right artist if a graphic novel is too big a bite to chew off.

I'm really hoping to find a collaborator. My e-mail is mrbarkersemail@yahoo.com

Please feel free to write with questions. Samples of your work would also be helpful. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi,
I am a Spanish teacher in the USA, and I have several ideas for short books for children (ages 4-9) in Spanish. Unfortunately, I don't illustrate very well. I love your drawings. I also have no clue how the book publishing business works. Interested?
Ana

James | 1 comments I have 550 pages of scripted content that I would like to bring to the digital comic world. I'd like to collaborate with someone interested in drawing a Western. We can work out a deal where you would get the majority in e revenue share but I want to maintain ownership of the material.

The Story:
https://www.facebook.com/go.up.the.tr...

Up The Trail is the adaptation of the bestseller novel "Log of a Cowboy" by Andy Adams. Up The Trail is about a young cowboy who goes up the Great Western Trail in 1882

Airborne Productions is in pre-production for a feature film called "Up The Trail." Up The Trail is the adaptation of the bestseller novel about a young cowboy who goes up the Great Western Trail in 1882.

Callbacks I held where I identified actors I wanted to work for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qimjzA...

We can work a deferred compensation contract. Your compensation would be calculated from 10% over your published rate on your website. For instance, say your rate is $ 30 per script page. On a 30 page script, to complete it, it would cost $ 900. With the deferred compensation contract, your rate would by $33 per script page and be entitled to $ 990. 100% of all revenues gleaned from all sources would go to you until that $ 990 debt would be cleared.

Send me a message here or on facebook if you are interested. Post any comments or questions. Thank you!

CC Hogan (cc-hogan) | 3 comments Hi, I am trying to get started as an author and amongst various things I am doing, I have two projects about bears that would work as a collaboration with an illustrator.

The first is the easiest to explain - it is basically a growing list of philosophical sayings that would be perfect inspiration for a series of cartoons. This could be expanded by the addition of some longer, tongue in cheek very short essays - in the pretence of being authorative works, but obviously completely rubbish. I have put some of the saying on my blog here:

http://cchogan.com/content-management...

The second project is a series of short children's stories (two already written) aimed at young children. These stories revolve around a bear who lives in a tree house and fixes things for other animals in the village. Each of his solutions is completely over the top, far more complicated than needed and inevitably made out of scrap. There is no moralistic tone, just gentle fun.

I have no money and no publisher. This is a case of seeing whether we like each other and if you like the ideas. Then we can put our heads together and see whether we can come up with something wonderful together as a partnership.

I have been in the media world for 35 years as a producer and composer and used to work a lot with illustrators and graphic artists back in the day. Depending on your abilities, we might also want to look at creating apps out of these.

I would be thrilled to talk to anyone who thinks this might be fun.

CC

CC Hogan (cc-hogan) | 3 comments I would just be happy to earn ANY money from it! Are there any App type graphics novels done? Years ago I was involved with creating a sort of game from Takero - I did the voice records. I don't think it was very successful, but it was an interesting idea.
